I have no clue how to word myself here. I just got that feeling I guess my parents had when I went through "that phase". Too damn edgy, man.

No amount of cool costumes/suits will (Most likely) cover the tattoo on his face; And I already have problems taking mad villains seriously.
I'll take it that you've never read comics before? And it's not like history isn't rife with real villains just as mad and twisted

Also, pretty sure "edgy" has lost all meaning on the Internet.

More sources saying no tattoos, white suit (as well as another character reveal), pics from set.

Not to mention, looks like this Joker could probably go toe-to-toe with Bats

I think there's some dissonance going on in this thread regarding what the reaction was to Ledger's casting versus the reaction to this first image of Leto as Joker.

When people were crying fowl about Ledger, it was not about the look, it was about the news he was cast. Much like Michael Keaton's casting as Batman, most people just knew Ledger as the pretty boy from movies like A Knight's Tale and 10 Things I Hate About You. It was when the first images of him leaked and the first teaser with him specifically that people got excited about him based on his look.

With Leto, people were fine with the casting. He's proven to be a versatile actor, capable of working in much darker material like The Thin Red Line, Fight Club and Requiem for a Dream, and even is something of a method actor like gaining extra weight to play Mark David Chapman in Chapter 27, so his acting ability was never in question, most assumed The Joker would be in good hands. This negative reaction so far is only based around this official photo being released.

This is essentially the complete opposite of the Heath Ledger casting / reveal. Jared Leto's casting was a positive, the release of this photo is seen as a negative.

Yeah, this is definitely the case. People were upset with the casting of Ledger and the reception only got more positive once they unveiled the Joker "look." A couple of pretty boy flicks, along with an artsy gay cowboy movie. That's not really the pedigree you'd expect for a Joker. Jack Nicholson, on the other hand, was never considered a "pretty boy" so his casting made a whole lot of sense.

With this new movie, the initial casting news was greeted with a whole lot of aplomb, because Leto is a really talented actor and was just coming off of his impressive Academy Award win. People had confidence in his new take on the character. Then the pictures came out and it went downhill. The tattoos... it's uh, much of a muchness.

And really, of all the things to borrow from Miller, why would you pick the tattooed Joker from his excreable run of All Star Batman and Robin? The Joker from Dark Knight Returns, which people actually loved, had no tattoos.

Whether or not you think he's a tool and his band sucks ass (he isn't and they don't, JFC), the fact remains that Leto has an Oscar and is worth millions, and you don't and you're not. Tough break, kiddo.

Uh ok? Cool, I'm sure Mr. Leto is glad you let that dude on the Internet know he makes more money than me.

I do think he's a good actor but also a tool and his band is god awful. I'm sure he'll do fine in the role.

Jealous of the Glory that is Johnny Depp
Also if it's true about
Killer Frost
then Ayer is straight up adapting Assault on Arkham. So the odds of Batfleck showing up are pretty big.

I dunno if I buy the no tattoo thing. Maybe they have had a change of heart after the internet reacted negatively to it, but I can't see WB putting out a publicity photo like that and have that not be his intended look. Why would they screw around with fans like that?
Because why not? Joke's on us.

A troll that has garnered way more attention than just releasing his real look on the weekend of jokers 75th anniversary. It was the tattoos that got everything spinning.

It was the Joker's 75th anniversary. The whole "tattoos represent classic Joker moments throughout his history" makes sense

The logical explanation is that it was the 75th anniversary, and the tattoos were all meta references to the Joker. It wouldn't hurt them to clarify anyway. Its a little silly now.

75th anniversary, temporary for a certain scene in the film, permanent for the character, whatever it is I'm intrigued.

This movie is gonna be PACKED. The cast really does sound like it's building towards being another Assault on Arkham but there are some major differences.

The absence of King Shark, Black Spider, and the Riddler and the inclusion of Rick Flagg and the Enchantress. Those change the dynamic of the squad by a lot.

Man, I need to rewatch Assault on Arkham - so awesome.

Bingo - that photo got the film more press than it probably otherwise would have if Leto had just looked like a more classic Joker.

King Shark was rumored to be in this, some canadian boxer iirc.

Repeat that all you want, the reveal of his look was a success, and all the bits of pre-release footage contributed to fairly massive excitement before the premier.

The distaste towards Ledger was entirely based on his previous films showing few signs of the performance he gave. His look wasn't a problem; if anything that's where the massive excitement around his portrayal began.

This version might be played great, but he's always going to look like a 90's nu metal frontman.

I agree that this is the opposite of the Ledger reaction, maybe some are forgetting (it has been eight years after all) how things went but yeah, it's for different reasons. But, it wasn't really until that first teaser came out with Ledger talking/laughing that the masses shifted their opinions on Ledger.

Never read comics? how did you reach that assumption?
Most real life villains are cold and calculated, Not mad/twisted.

You know what on second thought, as long as he doesn't open his mouth he'll be fine. Just stick an apple in it or something and let him MIme.
