I dunno where that vibe is coming from. Looks like the joker we all know, just a different fashion/style choice

Personally I'm hoping they go for a punk look but in all likelihood it will be yet another suit-wearing joker

And what he wears really isn't integral to the character at all. I had no problems with the janitor suit shit for instance
I don't have anything against punk style. It's the content of the tatoos that's boogus. Like they felt the need to wirte the exposition to the character literally on his skin so the viewers can understand. The Joker should explain himself without without words. More of the Robin tatoo, less of his own name, the laught and most of all "damaged". The whole picture screams: "GET IT? GET IT?"

Most people laughed at ledger casting and when the first promo pics were released, they laughed and criticized even more

We are really acting like a guy who just won an Oscar with an amazing performance is going to be shit, lol. I love the fact he looks so different then what people expected, no campy purple purple coat, let the man have his own view on the character

I'm intrigued more than anything. Would love to see an eery joker, going for true mental psychosis, as portrayed in Morrison's Arkham Asylum.

This is revisionist bullshit, and it gets frustrating to keep hearing this crap about how this Joker is going to be great because Letto had a great role recently. Plenty of great actors have had shit roles, and the Batman franchise knows just how deep that well goes.

And are you really saying that you love how campy he doesn't look? Doesn't he have damaged slapped on his forehead? "Let the man have his own view on the character", yes I'm sure this Joker is all Letto's design, from the tattoos to the teeth to the writing. Welcome to the movies.

I like how it looks inspired by Cape Fear's max cady mixed with a Rapper/rockstar

Dudes got trashy tattoos like Deniro did in that film. Hope Ayer goes full crazy with the concept and they don't cave in to fan reaction

If he's smart he'll make the damaged tattoo tongue-in-cheek, a self aware joke

I think he looks amazing. I can't wait to see him in some scenes. Looks very unique.

However, I hate the "damaged" tattoo. Love the others though. Especially the smile on the arm.

Right, I'm sure an A List actor is going to agree to the joker without first knowing the direction in which they were taking it

Heath ledger was pretty boy brokeback mountain cowboy, and his first initial press photos were trashed by fanboys

I'm going to wait for the movie to release before hating on something I know nothing about

I think there's some dissonance going on in this thread regarding what the reaction was to Ledger's casting versus the reaction to this first image of Leto as Joker.

When people were crying fowl about Ledger, it was not about the look, it was about the news he was cast. Much like Michael Keaton's casting as Batman, most people just knew Ledger as the pretty boy from movies like A Knight's Tale and 10 Things I Hate About You. It was when the first images of him leaked and the first teaser with him specifically that people got excited about him based on his look.

With Leto, people were fine with the casting. He's proven to be a versatile actor, capable of working in much darker material like The Thin Red Line, Fight Club and Requiem for a Dream, and even is something of a method actor like gaining extra weight to play Mark David Chapman in Chapter 27, so his acting ability was never in question, most assumed The Joker would be in good hands. This negative reaction so far is only based around this official photo being released.

This is essentially the complete opposite of the Heath Ledger casting / reveal. Jared Leto's casting was a positive, the release of this photo is seen as a negative.

Vote with your wallet.
I'm not going to avoid a movie because I don't like the design of a minor character.

Editing to avoid everyone quoting me: yes, didn't think about them using Joker as the main antagonist when I originally made the post. Still not going to avoid a movie because I don't like the design. That's a pretty petty reason to disregard an entire movie.

I think the thread has been posted before, but people still reacting negatively to Ledger's Joker after the first picture came out.

Part of it was because of what it was but yeah...

"minor character"

Only character to have had promos released so far. Enjoy seeing Leto in nearly 3/4 of the movie!
Well, I seriously doubt the Joker will be a part of the Suicide Squad.

He could be the main villain though. So, yeah, I'd be wrong if that turns out to be the case.

Anyway, Joker is the most marketable character in the whole movie. He's going to receive the most exposure regardless of the size of his role.

Most of the criticism I've seen has nothing to do with has casting, and everything to do with the look. Specifically the "damaged" tattoo part of the look.

Seems like a different scenario to me.

Yup. Even though the two situations are completely different from one another, it hasn't stopped people from posting,"but people hated Heath Ledger at first, too!" ad nauseum.

Then his design isn't that bad. If it was truly offensive and loathsome you'd avoid the movie.

So, back to my original post. Everyone in this thread will see this movie. And, "minor character" huh? Have fun with that.

And again, I have to wonder what your point is. I'm allowed to watch a movie that features a poorly designed character. And hey, maybe he'll actually be a good character with a shit design!

Wouldn't be the first time it's happened. See Quicksilver in DOFP for a recent example.

Then his design isn't that bad. If it was truly offensive and loathsome you'd avoid the movie.

Is this a serious response? I can't even tell.

How reliable is gabrielgray? Thought I've heard his name pop up before in rumors.

I'm leaning toward it being true.

Gabriel Gray is like - what if El Mayimbe was about 2/3rds less accurate, and way more annoying about it.

I'm sorta disappointed moviepilot even gave him the shine.

Ah ok.

You're sitting this out because The Joker doesn't look how you want, in a publicity photo, albeit one without the outfit he no doubt be wearing in the film? Leto is more than capable of killing it as The Joker, and that's the most important thing.

I have no clue how to word myself here. I just got that feeling I guess my parents had when I went through "that phase". Too damn edgy, man.

No amount of cool costumes/suits will (Most likely) cover the tattoo on his face; And I already have problems taking mad villains seriously.

Seems I'm just not in the target group.
