Nagato Yuki 9

Card games. Koizumi gets into even more baths. Ryoko has some very detailed fantasies. Yuki/Kyon sort of gets screen-time. Tsuruya officially has super-strength. Yuki reaches out to her kind. Is this show about the Yuki/Kyon relationship, or the Ryoko/Haruhi relationship? Because the latter gets far more development. Post credits, why doesn't Yuki at least try to move out of the way? Well, time to get that started.

Apparently I'm crazy here, but I don't understand how KyoAni now owes everyone a confirmed lesbian pairing, and they would somehow be homophobic if they don't follow through. That scene was still plenty meaningful in its own right, even if it "only" makes them very close friends.

Yeah, the female character who likes girls -- either by yuribait with the other girls, or by groping the other girls, or by being a hentai artist who draws hentai that focuses on girls (ie not BL or such) -- but is totally straight and loves the male MC -- is a super-common trope, and I agree that it's stupid. The basic concept makes no logical sense. It's just there as pure fanservice. Not all of this kind of fanservice is equally bad, but the concept is completely stupid and does not work.

The reason for it is obvious, though -- the girl has yuribait moments, draws hentai focusing on girls, etc. because the male audience likes such things, but she's also straight and likes the MC because she needs to be available as a waifu / romantic option for guys and a real lesbian wouldn't really be that. So the reason makes sense, it's just not a good reason. Trying to cover all bases like that doesn't work.

I thought the trope was actually true in some form. Aren't two girl romantic friendships pretty common but are seen as immature past a certain age in high school in Japan?

Yona of the Dawn 20-22
In which the group carries out a plan to rescue the victims of human trafficking and kill Yum Kumji. Damn, Yona's first kill was amazing. I really liked these episodes.

Ah yes. I need to watch this one.

It's a sad state of affairs when "yuri pandering" has become so ingrained in animegaf culture that people can't take a moment to self-evaluate and step out of that mindset and judge a work on its own merits.

Not for me. I just love lilies :)
Its a beautiful thing! Ask SDBurton.

Why can't we just let this thread die until summer?

NAh. Theres still unaired episodes of current shows!

I don't get why you couldn't just be fine with the fact that two girls might genuinely like each other in some capacity. I don't really know if I would call it pandering because the relationship here doesn't really seem contrived. It's more born out of an overwhelming sense of adoration for someone they look up to.

Not everything has to be demonized, especially when it's not known where exactly this will go anyways (which is probably not that route as is).

Well, that's a first. I liked Soma and Erina humming the ED at the end but then it transitioned into the real ED playing the second verse. Never seen that before.

Yep, this is what I was going to post. Really good stuff.

If next weeks episode is the one I think it is from the preview many hnngs will be had.

My mistake. CR hasn't actually bumped up Oregairu/Re-Kan. They simply changed all the display times on their website to PDT, even though I'm still in ET.

While the yuri-outcry is...stupid it's honestly expected by the average anime viewerbase which is just kinda pathetic. I mean, you look at any /r/anime Hibike! episode discussion thread and I'm sure 80% of the top comments are about just yuri. And some of that could have been avoided if the directors toned down a bunch of these rather overt yuri hints with random blushing or half of what happened last episode.

I'm simply not sure if that's part of Reina's characterization or if they really just wanted to actively pander due the demographic that eats this up.

Either way I'll agree with everyone who says its getting obnoxious how that's become the focus for many people when it's like the least best thing about the show. Though there's plenty here who don't do that at least and I felt like we got a lot good discussion going on about Hibike! so far.

Maybe it would be for the best if there was no next anime thread, then everyone could just calm down until Summer!

The stuff in Euphonium isn't subtle. It's not a big deal or whatever but it's not subtle.

this is true. That last episode was NOT subtle.

Is it wrong that I like this show despite hating SAO? - Episode 9

+1 to the harem this episode. Welf is a cool bro.

nah. I like it for various reasons too. Bell isnt super OP for one thing.

So is summer supposed to be a time when AnimeGAF explodes and the thread moves at a hyper pace?

This got me, thanks for the laugh.

Depends on the quality of the shows during the season. If they are duds the thread slows way down.

One day I realized that sadness is just another word for not enough coffee.

This is not how libido works.

In fact it's pretty much the exact opposite!

I'd like to believe thats not the case :/

When you spend your time gobbling down shit you forget what it's like to taste something good.

AssClass 19

Souped-Up gun sounds might tasty.

Also lol at that Jump shilling. I thought that that was a made up manga but it turns out it was actually real.

Danmachi 09

RIP baby dragon. Bell is totally OP now with his new skill. I hope a mother dragon is going to get some revenge, seems like that would be a cool fight. New party member is also pretty likeable, I was expecting worse.

JoJo's Bizzare adventure

Every episode I'm waiting for something super cool to happen but everytime I feel kinda cheated. Hope that the last few episodes are going to redeem it. Kakyoin and his sunglasses are baller as fuck. him getting the spotlight according to the preview worries me though.

True, it's the least best thing about the show. I just find the trope of "oh they are like lesbians but not really!" really obnoxious because that is pandering. For once I wish they had the guts to go all the way. Especially in this show because they actually developed it well.

Well, this is more proof of how toxic faux yuri/queer baiting/whathaveyou is.

I just find it a shame how this has started dominating the discussion about the show.

Sound! Euphonium is a phenomenal show with excellent direction, compelling source material, and generally pretty strong writing all working in tandem. It has a lot of great character interactions, a real commitment to portraying school bands in a realistic manner, and has generally been an all around great show.

But now all anyone wants to talk about is "YURI" and how Kumiko and Reina have to get together and how yuri the yuri show is. It does a disservice to the show itself.

Well, that is just for episode 8, though, isn't it? It's only for one episode. I mean I am pretty sure once episode 9 rolls around we will get to the awesome band stuff again.
