Best thing to do is hope for another Obsidian developed side game after this one. Express that interest to Bethesda. Be productive, etc.

The very subtle and quiet music that plays when they show the dog nudging the mobile is the music from the playpen scene in 3.

Yeah I'm guessing most fo1 + 2 fans have accepted that the series ain't going back to that style.

A spinoff (by Obsidian preferably) would be so cool, that's the most isometric fans would get. I would love it though. Parts of Fallout 1/2 are the only WRPGs of that era I really played.

People who think there's some huge gulf of quality between the two games aren't terrible, just deluded.

Writing wise there is for sure. When it comes to the actual gameplay and stuff like that not really, although I prefer pretty much everything about New Vegas (setting, story, characters, questlines)

From what I understand, it's confirmed based on landmarks in the trailer, that this takes place in Boston correct?

Does boston have a lot of subway lines? One of the things I really liked in Fallout 3 was actually roaming the subway areas of the game, it was something I really missed when playing NV. Felt like a chunk of the game was missing for me

I think the writing is better in New Vegas, but not that much better. Neither of them have great writing.

I'm fine with people wanting another Obsidian game, but this isn't it and it never was going to be. People need to get over it and stop whining.

You're aware that people are bringing up Obsidian because there's a rumour that there's a spin-off in the works, right?

Can confirm, Boston has a subway system. I'd be surprised if it wasn't in the game.

I liked the setting in FO3 more than NV. Not to mention that bugs was a much, much bigger issue in NV

And I would not expect obsidian to ever wanna touch the series again after getting burnt over the metacritic debacle

Can confirm, Boston has a subway system. I'd be surprised if it wasn't in the game.

This is wonderful news!

The gameplay is the same exact thing. You go into VATS and you shoot. They are both good games but lets not try to make NV something it was not. It was a good game, some people preferred it over 3 some didn't. NV was 3 with a different skin and better writing. I personally liked the world in 3 better and felt 3 had the more memorable quest.

Oh wow look, I liked both games? Shocking.

i hardly ever used VATS in New Vegas. The shooting was competent in NV where it was cumbersome in FO3.

I actually agree with all of those, but I don't think NV is vastly superior. They're still extremely similar games. Obsidian made very subtle changes that a lot of people probably wouldn't even notice unless it was pointed out to them.

This has been going on for years in Fallout 4 rumor and speculation threads.

Same, I don't see why people are acting like New Vegas is the all mighty superior version. Both games were good in their own right.

If anything, we should give credit to Bethesda for reviving the series and bringing the experience to a new generation of gamers.

I suppose is too soon for a summary of confirmed features, right?

I hope there's some survival mode and better companion AI and features.

Basically I want Bethesda to take the most popular mods and make them part of the vanilla game.

Probably shouldn't have the thread turn into another Fallout 3 vs New Vegas argument so I'll just list some things I was sad were in neither and I want in 4.

  • The ability to turn into a ghoul. This would ideally be permanent and a difficult solution to make, offering healing from radiation, new ghoul factions and areas, immunity to packs of feral ghouls, etc.
  • The ability to smoke. You can find smokes everywhere, but can't use them. You can however drink tons of alcohol and make your own super drugs. I don't even smoke but come on.
  • Resistance from the elements, kind of like in STALKER. I'm surprised they didn't try and make dust storms a problem in New Vegas with Survival Mode. I'd like to see some post apocalyptic nuclear weather and trying to wade through it.
  • Tons of enemy variety. This is more a problem in Fallout 3 (Super Mutants EVERYWHERE) but some areas in New Vegas were pretty samey as well. Although with the Draugr caves in Skyrim I'll keep my expectations really low for this one.
  • Better companion A.I. Companion A.I. is either too dumb or the character is too strong (Boone and Fawkes) and it messes with the game. Again, I'll keep my expectations really low because Skyrim didn't improve on this at all.
  • More weird shit. The best part of Fallout 3 for me was Point Lookout and the trippy drug sections, and Fallout has always had tons of weird 50's pulp sci fi bullshit. So more of that.
  • Improve VATS. Honestly I think VATS is a pretty awful feature but if it was improved it would be fine.

Not that I wouldn't mind going back isometric I think the current form works well if it's tweaked enough. The rest is just the engine holding the game back.

I'm not one to complain about a new fallout, all Beth needs to do is to take the cues from FONV.

Playing Fallout without VATS is not playing Fallout

VATS in Fallout 3 is fun for a little bit but after a little while i only used it for hard enemies because its basically God Mode. A 90% less damage taken buff and 15% increased crit chance? It makes the game trivial if you use it all the time.

I expect this game to be out in 2015 than for HL3 to exist.

I personally want all of that except the smoking. I couldn't care less about the smoking, but in this type of game why not have the option for those that want to?

One thing I just realized; there's rain now, in the shot with robot hand guy. We've never seen that in Fallout, have we?

The smoking thing always just confused me since you can use post apocalyptic drugs you made at a campfire but not smoke

its weird cause npcs can smoke. just make it something you can only do when standing still if you want to be really lazy about it.

I want another obsidian fallout. I agree though 4 was never going to be it and was going to be Bethesda. I mean Bethesda Softworks seems to see it as Bethesda Studio's baby (despite a lot of the original developers being in Obsidian) and only to give it to others when they want to make a quick follow up to cash in on hype. What we can hope for is that they give obsidian another fallout to do (but prolly another one to just build on 4 rather than be a big step up in gameplay).

That being said, I disagree that overall new Vegas wasn't that much better. Given all the stuff it did better and put it together, it really was that much better.

But for now I'm happy to get fallout (if they didn't do something stupid like not allow female main characters).

I seriously think we won't be able to customize the character. The protagonist in the trailer looks exactly the same (including hair style and everything) as the guy in the Kotaku's leaked scripts. The protagonist at the end also looks exactly like the father at the beginning in the pre-war flashback with the baby, so the protagonist may be the son, so to go along with having a voice I think the character predefined.

I don't know how I feel about this. I guess we have to wait and see.

Maybe it will be like the original Fallout where you have to pick one of a few preset characters. Maybe there will be a male and female character you choose from. To be honest all that character customization is such a waste of time. Fallout 3 had the weakest story of the series so thats what they need to concentrate on tightening up and if that means limiting player choose then so be it.

Man I couldn't disagree with this more. I've certainly felt more attached to characters I've created and therefore roleplayed then traditional protags. At that point they may as well make a normal fps with no c&c I'm sure that would tighten up the experience quite a bit.

Um, what? Apparently you didn't pay too close attention when picking/making your character in Fallout 1. Sure, there were some preset made characters. There was also the option to modify those characters. And... wait for it... an option just to outright create your own. I even just opened Fallout just to verify I wasn't some how misremembering (hell, I forgot it gave you the option to use a premade character cause I just skip that part).

Creating your own character has always been a staple of Fallout. In fact and 1+2 it was a very well known thing that the idea was that you made a character, and if you found it was too hard to get through fallout, it just meant you needed to go back and try again and try to build a more useful character. Part of the tactics of it was how you built your character up.
