Oh shit. When I first saw the trailer I assumed they were just brotherhood of steel dudes
Me too, mostly because the armor of the guy on the left stuck out so prominently.

I posted this in the speculation thread, but I'll post it in here in case some of you haven't seen it. This is my trailer dissection. I found a lot of little things like this. It's fairly long, so it'll take up quite a bit of space, but quite a few people in the other thread enjoyed it. I can just edit this post and link to it if you guys think it take too much space though:

I'm just gonna dive right in and post my findings and speculations from the trailer. Keep in mind, most of this is just guesswork, and it should be clear by my writing what is and isn't.

On the floor of the baby's room, we see a SPECIAL book. Could this hint at a Fallout 3 style intro and character creation?

Though it may be purely for cinematic purposes, the dog seems VERY familiar with this house. Maybe it somehow has a past with the family that lived there? It may have survived the 200 year interim between the Great War and the time the game takes place in cryosleep or something similar (this one's a longshot).

One small thing to note, these cars are very different from what we've previously seen in Fallout 3 and NV, especially the red one.

It appears that some of the people at the gate didn't make it past the guards and into the Vault.

This scene is particularly interesting because we've never seen a player character have cinematic and contextual reactions to things like this in Bethesda games. In Fallout 3, you would have just been blinded a little and heard the character grunt, but now he's shielding his eyes, leaning away.

Again, this may be merely for cinematic purposes, but we see a third person view of the MC here. Could this imply the inclusion of cut-scenes that remove the player's POV from first person and have more "cinematic" camera movements?

Also of note is the structure on the horizon and the cityscape even further back. The closest structure I could find in real life near Boston is this watertower located in Middlesex Falls Reservation, just outside Boston.

It's also worth noting how far away the city is, just to get a sense of the scale of the map.

Here we see the Bunker Hill Monument, which appears to have been turned into a fort, possibly by bandits.

What looks to be essentially a mini-Rivet City, here we have a dry-docked USS Constitution (A.K.A. "Old Ironsides"). It appears to be resting on a bank, and some sort of cylinder has been affixed to each side of it. These are possibly thrusters or engines of some sort.

This appears to be a shot of the inside of the city of Boston. We also see a man with a prosthetic/robotic arm. What significance, if any, this holds is unclear.

This shot confirms the return of the Super Mutants. One of them looks to be wearing armor. Based on the cage hanging in the tree, it looks like they may have set up camp nearby.

The protectron returns, though this appears to be a different model as the dome is clear and it is a lighter color.

Wading through the sand in this shot we see a mirelurk, though it has a strange appearance to its head. This may be a mutated mirelurk (or just an odd angle).

In the background is a ship. This, in conjunction with the sand, leads me to believe that this is a dried up Boston harbor.

Deathclaws are returning (this appears to be an Alpha Male or a Legendary Deathclaw). The area it is roaming is in far worse shape than the rest of the trailer. This may be the immediate area in which the nuke we see at the end of the trailer struck.

Enclave Vertibirds are back! YAY!

These enemies appear to be feral ghouls, though if they are they have undergone a slight redesign. This scene also shows off the physics at place in the game well, as they knock carts and other items out of the way to reach the player.

Fenway Park (or differently named baseball park like Shmenway Fark) is in the game.

Eyebots are back as well.

Many wastelanders appear to have taken up residence inside the baseball park, now dubbed "Diamond City".

Paul Revere's statue features prominently in this shot, though rather than being located in the middle of the Public Garden like in real life, it is placed closer to the Old North Church.

This shot is an excellent showcase for the game's depth of field effects, as well as possibly giving us a hint at a returning character. We can see a GNN sign in the street below, and this may have at some point been taken over by GNR and Three Dog, as the Capital Wasteland's GNN building was.

In the foreground of this shot, we see the Massachusetts State House, and in the back we see what may be a very banged up Prudential Tower.

On the wall to the left is a laser rifle with a scope, implying a weapon customization system. This shot also confirms the return of the minigun.

Our protagonist also appears to be fixing up a set of Power Armor (assuming this is his garage).

Here, we get a good look at what may be the Pip-boy 4000. It is noticably different from the 3000 as it sports a sleeker design and a redesigned button layout.

That's all I found! If you found anything I missed, let me know and I can add it!
Also sorry it takes up so much space.

I like that they kept the janky animations its their signature IMO

You know you're playing one of theirs when you see it

Game looks great

This was the other night scene.

This scene with the fully functional blimp and vertibird give me hope that maybe there will be vehicles in this game. I'm hoping for at least a motorcycle or a dune buggy. It didn't make sense in fallout 3 or NV with how many broken down cars there were in the game that no one was able to put parts together to get one working.

Oh wow good catch. If this does end up being the case then I don't even know, that would be incredible.

I'd say it's practically guaranteed. Todd Howard have already talked stuff like that in regards to next gen hardware iirc. It's also one of the main reasons I doubt the rumor about there being last gen version of the game that will be revealed later.

Bethesda + Quality Gameplay? =P

At least the exploration will be fun and I like that they are making the game more colorfull yet still with the lingering feeling of dread instead of those messy browns and ugly filters they used in 3 and New Vegas...

Anyway:

I don't know why I will do this to myself T_T, only played like 50 hours of Fallout 3 and never opened New Vegas before gifting them... Oh well, better late than never =P

Hopefully I can finish Mass Effect

Hey, I love the gameplay. The VATS system is actually quite addictive. And I agree on the added color. It's just enough to make the world beautiful, yet still devastated.

At any rate, enjoy New Vegas. Many like it even better than Fallout 3.

Hell of a break down. Most of this would fly right over.

Oh, and one other interesting thing I just saw on Reddit; the Vault 111 jumpsuit the MC is wearing appears to be based on the jumpsuits from Fallout 1. Tighter, smoother, and less baggy than in Fallout 3.

Nice run down.

I've probably watched this trailer 30 times now and I've never noticed the SPECIAL book and the new design for the Pip-boy. Two things, I assume the Vertibird doesn't confirm the return of the Enclave due to the shot where a Brotherhood of Steel knight is in one. Also one of the feral ghouls appears to be in a dress but it is hard to see.

Ohhhhhh, good catch. I hadn't zoomed in on the doorway of the vertibird, didn't even see him. You're right, that definitely looks more like Brotherhood power armor than Enclave.

Nothing about this trailer was hype for me...

Is something wrong with me? I can't be alone right?

Nothing wrong with not being hyped. I mean, my hype only rises to the level of interested in either case(Which, with few exceptions, is as far up as my hype meter goes).

I was thinking that his suit looks so clean because of the rumors that
your character awakens from cryogenic sleep.
So his suit is fresh.

So there were about 8 ghouls in that shot. I'm hoping that means concurrent NPC numbers have increased substantially so towns can actually feel like towns.

As well, having so many enemies rush at once might make VATS more vital to survival than before if it's still there (I hope it is).

I know that each Fallout game has had some theme of water. F1 had you getting a water chip for the vault, F3 was about purifying the waters of DC, and FNV was about the fight for Hoover Dam. I been thinking about what the water theme for F4 could be, and have made two guesses for it based on the trailer.

One: Something to do with getting water into the greater Boston area.
From Matty G's post, we can see that the USS Constitution and a freighter ship are both dry docked due to a lack of water. So the player, and possibly a greater powerful faction, must find a way to bring water back into the Boston area.

Two: Something to do with the rain.
As seen in the two night time moments from the trailer, there appears to be rain in the game. Since precipitation was never really in 3 or NV, it would be interesting to see how Bethesda would incorporate it into the game as a mechanic. Perhaps the rain in the Boston area is radioactive, and the player and some faction are trying to find a way to purify it. (
to be honest I've been dreaming for this to happen in a Fallout game
)

What did you expect? This trailer gets a 10 out of 10. It went above and beyond expectations. Most people thought it was going to be 30 seconds only to debut the title. You have to remember Fallout 4 was not confirmed to be in development. Not only did the trailer unveil the title, but it showed a ton of content and hints into the game. The amount of locales shown was a lot and I think too much. I was hoping to be surprised on my first playthrough like first discovering fenway, but there was definitely some spoilers in there for locations. My only complaint is the graphics look like it can be A LOT better but that is not going to stop people from playing.

I'm getting more excited for this, since I played 3 so much. Is it true it's coming out this year or will we know more at E3?

There's a lot of evidence pointing towards a release this year, but it isn't confirmed, and yes we'll see more at E3.

I think it's safe to assume we play either as the father that was at the beginning of the trailer with the wife and baby, or we can chose between the father and the mother. The leaked script say the player narrates the introduction, and that he talks about how he is afraid for his wife and his infant son (both of which we saw at the beginning of the trailer). So that is probably pre war. Then, as we saw near the end of the trailer when the nuclear explosion went off, the father, wife and child are standing on top of the vault (along with others) and they all get hit by the wave. Kotaku also sad they had other documents that suggested that the player awakens from cryogenic sleep, which would mean the father (or mother) would have managed to survive and maybe gain access to the vault and enter cryogenic sleep.

Kotaku also said that they had roles for a voiced male and female protagonist. So perhaps you're basically choosing between being the mother or the father. Hopefully customization still exists otherwise I'll be pretty upset. I'm already not sure about the the player having a voice... Going to ruin a lot of the immersion for me, and maybe even replayability if it's really story driven.

New Vegas has voice actors for the main character

God that is not flattering at all to Fallout 4, the Fallout 3 model actually looks better there, some of the textures are better even..

Does it matter? They'd also yell frag out sometimes too.
Maybe not to you, but it matters to me and many others. It's called personal preference. It's part of why a lot of us love their RPGs. And I've never heard the character in New Vegas say frag out lol...

There's a difference between grunting and talking.

The player character does say it. Does it matter if it's grunting or a script? They're still voiced. Didn't ask your preference.
Las Vegas wasnt bombed. Boston might not have been either.
That's possible. But Vegas had a guy defending it. But the poster in the previous page did make good points about the trailer's indication of distance.

When 99.9% of the dialogue isn't voiced, calling it a voiced character is just arguing for the sake of arguing.
Still voiced. Anyway it could mean player dialogue is voiced by a distinct voice this time, since last time (the male anyway) was voiced by Yuri Lowenthal who did like 40% of the people in the game probably.

Not alone.

That trailer made the game look likes its gonna be super videogamey, fucking blimps, and old timey ships with engines? WTF.

I wasn't exactly expecting Fallout NV from Bethesda but I was kind of hoping they would step up their game, just a little.

That's not to say I think the game will be bad. Just not up to par with my favourite game of last gen.

Hmm.. What does 1997 CG being better than 2015 in game mean, if anything?

A prerendered still can be touched up in all sorts of ways that make it look better than how it would have appeared in motion or worse yet, in real time when fallout 1 came out.

Everything about making a prerendered still is coming from photography, attention to detail and setting a tone to make that image count as a stand out promo art for your game.

GPUs have certainly come far adapting some of the technical feats older CGI games and movies did only now on a real time levels. Still I'd say a lot of pre rendered stills from the late 90s and 2000s come off very well these days. Usually only hindered by resolution.

Fallout 3 is usually dirt cheap, both on PC and consoles. Unless you meant the intended sequel to Fallout 2, but I thought it was cancelled around 2004 and there's only a mod or something.
