After last years IGN cock up I suspect this year we will have the opposite happen but with the same end result.

Some unseen TLG assets will leak somehow and people will get hyped that this is the year. Then E3 happens and it isnt there. But Shu says Ueda is working hard on it!

This is what happens when every member of a forum still delusional enough to believe after being burned no less than a dozen times comes together in one place.

It's like a social experiment. Each time more people drop off the train, distilling it down into something more insane than it was the last time. Eventually only one person will be left, and they will be taken for scientific study.

My hope for this game ever being shown again is really low. I do hope sony eventually show the game and I wonder if this is the year they actually decide to show it.

The forum motto is "Believe" afterall. It's not like there isn't precedent for a game that's in development for many years eventually getting released. Many figured Duke Nukem Forever was dead, but after 14 years, it finally came out. Granted it's not exactly the same circumstances, but still.

I don't understand the utter fascination people have over the Last Guardian.

Well, okay, "fascination" is perhaps a thing I still can understand, but this is more of an "obsession", or even "deep obsession". I mean, ICO was a good game (with lots of faults) and Shadow of the Colossus was indeed something special, but it's just two games. Many games from other gaming studios towered over them in terms of quality or atmosphere or both and yet rarely have I seen such a title been waited with such fervor like the Last Guardian.

Especially so since Sony treated this game like it is some sort of a joke. "Oh they're still working on it, so make sure to be excited" gets really old really fast if they're keep doing it over and over and over and over for years.

Or maybe people clamoring over this are actually fully realizing that they're just in some sort of collaborative joke and only in it for the fun.

It's simple. I don't agree with you that many games have towered over ICO or Shadow of the Colossus in quality or atmosphere. In fact, I think ICO and Shadow of the Colossus have a completely unique sense of aesthetic design and focuses greatly on subtractive game design to the point where there is very few games at all like it. As such, a new game with that design philosophy is greatly appealing in a way getting the latest CHECKLIST GAME DESIGN AAA TITLE can never be. It's similar to how there are now no games in the industry like Tomb Raider, and the shit that replaced it using the same title can go fuck itself because I didn't need yet another painfully derivative shooter.

Similarly, Godfather 1 and 2 are "just two movies", but they're also some of the most influential movies of all time. How limited something is doesn't actually speak to its importance or quality. ICO and Shadow of the Colossus were two very special games, and its sequel is anticipated to be similarly special. It might not be, but that's where the fervor comes from.
