Now that's an Official Thread if ever I saw one. A true labor of love. Excellent work, ED.

As for the rest of you, buckle up and enjoy the ride before the ACO inevitably pegs the P1s back in 2016. This year's race could well be among the all-time greats.

To be fair at their current rate of development the cars could be in the 1300bhp range next year, a little bit of pegging back could be a decent idea, I would expect they will continue with the fuel allowance drops to do so rather then artificial powertrain restrictions. As long as they get a wide choice of technology and options which can in turn stay road-relevant the manufacturers wont mind.

Wow! Impressive OP. I don't watch this race often, but the op and the history of Nissan posts are impressive. PEACE.

6am to 6am race here. I'm always good for the start but waking up to catch the end can be rough, especially depending on how long I endure the night.

I'm on holiday and only have my phone, is the WEC app mobile only or can it be viewed via laptop? Laptop would be great so I can output to my tv.

Cheering for Webbah to take the overall win! It will be odd without McNish and Mr Le Mans Tom Kristensen racing.
According to this - http://www.fiawec.com/crossplatform-en.html - you can indeed watch the coverage via the website.
Will those streams be archived? I'm gonna be a little busy on Saturday and would like to able to watch more than bits and pieces of it.
It's doubtful, but some of the footage from those streams might be uploaded to Youtube.

Beautiful OP, well done.
So from reading what you've written, even if you win you wouldn't recoup your cost of entering?
That's correct, but factoring in the benefits of winning (merchandising opportunities etc) the deficit is recovered.

Possibly the best OT I have seen yet, wow! Deserving so for the most prestigious motorsport event in the world!

Amazing OP. Thank you for the effort. I will be one of those staying up for the duration of the race.

I usually hang out at r/WEC and their IRC chat for the 24 hour, but this time around I'm gonna stick it out here.

Can't wait!

I follow Le Mans on GAF rather than any motorsport site, solely because you smash it each year Edmond. Print and bind that OP and put me down for a copy.

Not sure what I look forward to the most. The race or the Eurosport commentators who stop caring about being professional when night kicks in.

It doesn't matter who you listen to, it always reaches a point where they just let loose and go on bizarre tangents.

The Dutch commentary is absolutely terrible though on Eurosport, I'm glad I can change it.

Some guy who is clueless about what's happening on screen and just keeps whining about how F1 sucks these days.

Only 5/6 Days to go. Awesome OP thanks for all of the Information.
I think it will be my fifth year in a row watching, with breaks between it. And yeah, i have to learn, but more importantly no work on saturday. And finally HD cabletv. Was streaming all the last years.

The RLM guys can get very cliché with the constant 'I'm not comparing it to F1 but...' and 'this isn't an endurance race its a x hour sprint' but as a whole there passion makes it enjoyable they also have good twitter and social media interaction. Not many motorsports commentators will have drivers and team principals just wander into the box for a chat.

How did I miss this thread??!

I love the 24 Hours of Le Mans, I didn't figure GAF would be into it though. I live in the USA, where we rarely even get the broadcasting rights, so we can't even subscribe to Euro Sport live streams. But thankfully there's always... other means... of getting it. I've seen every race for the past 9 years or so. I'm going to try using the Hola app to get a paid stream of the race from Euro Sport. I prefer their coverage. I didn't like the official coverage last year, too boring.

My favorite era was the Audi vs. Peugeot years. There were some really intense races back then. I root for Toyota now because they absorbed some of the Peugeot team after they left, including my favorite driver, Antony Davidson.

As far as Nissan, they've been testing the waters for a while now and their return is definitely the wild card. But I dunno, the Le Mans gods can be cruel and they can unleash all kinds of hell on flashy radical designs.

Also, I reviewed two Le Mans games last year! Link to video

Welcome aboard. There is indeed a small but passionate community of endurance racing fans here.

And this is the art car for 2015...o_O

I try not to wish bad luck on any of the teams, but if that art car starts having reliability problems (and it's an Aston, so chances are high) then I'm going to bust up laughing.

It'll be interesting to see what it looks like on the TV coverage. I expect the novelty of the livery to wear thin quite soon.

If my dad had his old TV, he'd probably go nuts trying to adjust the color settings!

I think it's actually this car just having technical difficulties.

I'm looking forward to their return, but I can't help feeling that I'd rather see them join the LMP1 class.
I'm not sure that Ford motorsports is in the right place for a sustained LMP1 effort right now. I hope it's on the road map somewhere, though. They're the one American manufacturer with the credibility to make a run at it.

e: Also, they should try to recruit Jeff Gordon

Can't wait for the weekend. Everyone else at work is talking about the NBA finals, but I've got no time for that shit. Gonna hook the PC up to the TV again for uninterrupted big-screen racing.

I just read through the OP... holy shit, outstanding effort once again ED!

One request: Can anyone knock up some kind of timetable of when sunrise/sunset is and how it corresponds with certain timezones? I want to know if I'll be able to catch the sunrise/sunset here in Melbourne (Australia, GMT+10 ;) ).

Interesting article about Toyota:

Autosport

Basically says Toyota's new car was 2.5s a lap faster than last year when they were WEC champs and now they are well behind Audi and Porsche. Talk about a Quantum leap from the German pair!

That ART car is going to alias like mad on low bitrate/low res services!

Reading the OP will take almost as long as completing the race :p

First time in years I'll be watching.

I never thought humanity would manage such a feat but we have, we have reached the point where we can make an Aston look truly awful. Also at certain zoom levels it makes my screen go a little weird and show it as a dull grey.

What the fuck? That makes my eyes hurt. Maybe it has some kind of special effect when looking at it in motion. But it can't be good enough to eradicate the hurt my eyes just went through.

I thought Nissan already admitted that they would be running without a working hybrid system this year?

This year is basically a test session for them. I don't think anyone should expect them to be really competing at the weekend. It's all about next year for them.

This year is basically a test session for them. I don't think anyone should expect them to be really competing at the weekend. It's all about next year for them.

Originally it was supposed to be a 8mj system with 4wd, then due to difficulties it became a 2mj through just the front wheels (the engine also only powers the fronts) now the car is rumoured to be purely combustion powered. With no hybrid system at all the cars ultimate laptime will suffer a lot.

Also at what point does testing become fairly pointless, with no hybrid system and only front wheel drive the car is so far removed from it's target specs that I have to question how much relevant data can be learned. Familiarising the team and drivers with working together and running in the event is great but actual race data? I'm not sure.

Regarding Hola you might want to read this, I would recommend using another VPN service. Unblock-Us seems to support the Eurosport Player, and they have a 7 day free trial so if it's just for watching Le Mans you don't need to pay anything.
