Wild Hunt GOG + Steam sales breakdown (1.3M total)

So PC, with it's piracy, matched the console sales*, with a DRM free option available day 1.

* if you split their sales evenly. Otherwise it outsold the XBOX One version.

GOG Galaxy is really impressive. Nice, clean, minimalist look and autopatches for GOG games.

It's a breath of fresh air from the bloated clusterfuck steam is right now.

Great to see it doing so well on GOG. Not too surprising that it did well considering that codes were being sold on every 3rd party site, but I didn't expect it to outsell Steam.

It also probably sold more on GOG then Steam because all the grey market sites and 3rd party digital retailers were selling GOG Keys so even then many were bought well below MSRP.

I like Galaxy but Steam has a far more compact library view which is what matters. It bugs me that Galaxy's games gets cut off every 100 games or so. Long list pls.

I think it is pretty obvious why they needed consoles. But for about a 70m game they are already basically making huge profits so I expect the next game to get some major push and a higher budget. I mean average people buying this can't be any lesser than 40 dollars all told and more like an average of 50. 4 million sold and counting.... this game is going to do lifetime sales of like 8m at an average of who knows maybe 30 bucks?

Game is a blockbuster on a budget at this point. I hope that entire studio gets a raise.

Man....
Did I said anything wrong? Is there any rule that i broke?

Why are people jumping on me?

I just expressed surprise with the sales breakdown. For me Witcher was a more pc focused game, just like let's say Diablo.

There's no consoles vs pc mentality on my post

I just jumped on you since you lumped two traditionally front loaded platforms against one.

I wish CDPR would sell Steam codes through retailers as well but then GOG numbers wouldn't be high I guess. I just like having choice.

Gog is so awesome that they allowed me to import my Witcher 1 and 2 steam keys over to drm free versions. For me, getting Witcher 3 through Gog was a no brainer.

Hmm we'll see how NPD goes, but I wouldn't be surprised if the breakdown will be close to 45/30/25 for PS4/PC/X1 and to think this is a PlayStation franchise debut.

Curious, is this a normal GoG thing? Or just because it's their game?

PS4 version being the lead platform in NPD, 63% share in the UK + winning rest of the world (haven't actually looked it up but come on..)

Doesn't it mean an insane amount of copies sold on PS4?

Ok, but i really can't see were my comment was in the sense of "pc sales, lol".

And I still think that a Witcher game debuting with potentially >1 million on ps4 is very impressive.

But it looks like it was just a misunderstanding. Let's just forget it.

I believe you can do it for the Stalker games as well. They are winning me over fast. Incredible prices, and you actually own the games. They are starting to get a ton of the same games as steam as well.

That's a pretty big number for Witcher on PC in such a small time frame, curious to see how much it will sell until the end of the year with some price cuts thrown in. PC games tend to sell for much longer.

It's a result of all the downplaying of PC sales everytime some numbers get posted. See any other thread about W3 sales. And then you bring up consoles and it being a PC-centric franchise when this thread isn't at all about that. Let's just say it was bad timing.

Since NPD is US only retail sales, PC will represent like 1% of whatever their numbers are.

I just like having my stuff all in one place. I wish there was some ultimate platform that combined all PC launchers into one seamless experience.

I can see now that I touched in a delicate subject.

But i didn't even think about it, my Witcher 3 copy is a pc one.

My intention was not to downplay any platform performance, was to say that the game is selling very well in every place.

To me anyhow, that's a shocking amount of console sales.

Watch out, I almost got crucified by saying this.

You shouldn't care but it does make a good case study why supposedly "pc" exclusive move to consoles or expand to them.

I don't think it's all that surprising that when games are available on more platforms, they usually sell more than when they're available for fewer platforms.

Great numbers, but those aren't all, right?
Because not everyone is using GOG Galaxy to play the game even if he bought his copy on GOG, no? And not everyone who bought the retail copy used the GOG code.. So the numbers for the PC version after two weeks should be higher than 1,23 mil., right?

Great numbers, congrats to GOG. Can this finally be the end of the couch statisticians claiming GOG sales are negligible?

Wonder how the NPD will look. 1.3m on PC means the consoles moved around 2.7m. Japan was 90k of it. EU is probably 50-60% due to the series' roots and digital is 10-20% of whats left. NA retail may land somewhere between 800-1.1m?

Nope. These numbers are really boosted by activated retail etc., which is typically pushed to Steam or at the very least counted separately.

For a regular indie game, GOG isn't exactly not nice to have, but it's not the sales juggernaut either. I think we saw Shovel Knight percentages?

So sales are very likely to be PS4>PC>X1.

i'm seriously impressed at PS4 performance giving that this game has no history with PS platforms, and numbers also give more credibility to X360 players migration to PS4 theory.

Yes, I'm one of them.
I tried Galaxy once in the launch day, but I resorted to the traditional download due to my limited internet connection. Playing without Galaxy ever since.

Wasn't interested in PC sales of course but the PS4-Xbone split. We already know that PS4 SKU is on top even in US (was expecting Xbone to be on top personally), hopefully someone leaks some numbers but honestly now I see a scenario where PS4 sales account for 50% of TW3 sales to date.

This is a really weird sentiment.

Most games are multi-platform. Almost NO ONE outside Japan, and motion control based games, makes console exclusive games.

The only time you see that is when console manufacturers PAY to have a game be exclusive.

Bottom line is, unless your game absolutely, positively needs a toy plastic "guitar" or "skateboard", you are being incredibly stupid by NOT putting it out on ALL paltforms - PC, Xbox one, PS4.

This isn't some unique thing in PC gaming. Most PC exclusives, just like the motion contorl games on console, end up requiring specialized input devices like keybaords and mice.

However, profit for CDPR is almost certainly:

PC>PS4>>Xbone.
