You know what else is already made? Shenmue 1 and 2.

And it's not like the translation process that Yakuza 5 has to go through is going to be cheap either.

Lol, how is Yakuza more financially viable when every entry has flopped in the West? We had to beg Sony in order to make a localisation happen. At least the first Shenmue managed to sell over a million copies, not to mention that it's been so long since a Shenmue game has come out that it's completely up in the air how it would fare commercially. One thing that's undeniable is that it's gained an almost mythical status in the past decade, and that's made people stand up and notice it. A remastered collection would convince these people to see what the fuss is all about.

If nothing Shenmue comes out of this E3 I'll just have to say Suzuki is very, very, very Evil. Capital E! You can't tweet something like that and expect it to go unnoticed... come on.

But TLG and Shenmue 3 at E3 would be bonkers to say the least. Let's just add JSR3 to it and ZOE3...oh...

Mythical status on neogaf. That'll account for about 5k sales. Shenmue would bomb 10x worse than any yakuza entry.

It's not happening. Sony buying metal gear has more of a potential of happening than this. Megaman getting a new game has a better chance than this.

I want a continuation not an end! At least not super abruptly anyways. These games are fun ta play so I'd at least want 2 more of 'em. Ending it on the 3rd would just be so underwhelming!

the budget of shenmue was for the whole series as a project. sega were to milk 4-5-6+ games out of the initial investment.

shenmue may have been profitable by shenmue 2 if sega hadn't already pulled the plug on the dreamcast and botched US sales with the xbox deal

The years late xbox port of Shenmue 2 sold like 5 times more than the best selling Yakuza NPD. And the series did respectively in Japan despite the Dreamcast always selling like shit there.

What?! Shenmue is talked about all the time outside of Neogaf. And it's the most requested game on #BuildingTheList no matter which way you slice it, which last time I checked exists outside of this site. I'd say it attracts more attention that Yakuza does, despite being so much older.

And if it bombs worse than Yakuza then so what? I'd rather a collection come out than not come out at all so I can at least see for myself how well it does.

That was then. This is now. People care about Yakuza in Japan more than Shenmue too. Pubs have to take into account the Japanese market too not just the west. Also take into account the ridiculous budget of the Shenmue games.

So what? I'd rather Sega stay in business than not or go mobile. Yakuza gets sequel after sequel because it makes money. Shenmue begs for funding from platform holders year after year because it doesnt and wouldnt.
