Personally I would be expecting a remaster-esque remake by someone like Virtuos.

Higher resolution backgrounds with much newer looking character and enemy models, but nothing resembling something Ike Final Fantasy XV.

Pretty much what people expected, though, right? I don't think anyone would expect a full blown "new game", because at that point you might as well make a sequel.

And updated FMVs. Honestly this is basically what most people want.

Can't give my word on the crazy Shenmue rumours but the FF VII remake is a real thing. They started production a few months ago and it will be announced this week for a 2017 release.

The Last Guardian is coming back too, Sony PR guys are giving appointments to the press and they plan to release it during the holiday season since Uncharted 4 is delayed until 2016.

2017? ugh

TLG this holiday? i'm ok with that

I would be completely happy with something like this. In fact, depending on how much of the original game they'd change with an actual, proper modern remake, the remaster might be preferrable even.

How exactly do you decide this?

Personal opinion: VII hits closer to home, and just generally feels more adult to me.

It deals with a capitalistic dystopia (instead of an intangible fantasy "empire"), rampant genetic modification, the outsourcing of armed forces to financial interests, and the tragedy that comes after you've traded the health and resources of your community away for a quick buck (ties to "Big Oil" and the fracking industry in rural US).

The game picks up in its own World of Ruin. Of the characters who aren't totally washed up failures already, one dies, one has horrible self-esteem issues, and the other is the Princess of a town/country that has been reduced to a tourist destination. Cloud, the badass on the cover with the big ass sword, went away with big dreams of making something of himself and came home the biggest failure of the entire cast.

VI picks up when the Big Bad wins. VII starts off in a world where the Big Bad won a long time ago, and there's nothing you can do about it. It's heavy, and in a way that connects way more to what I consider mature themes and story beats. Not edgy "mature", though there is some of that, but human mature.

I agree 100%. FF6 is still in the realm of Saturday morning cartoon-level "serious" even at its darkest moments, and in terms of character drama, just doesn't even come close to FF7's. It's understandable, because it's a big epic about 14 characters against an evil empire, and that's not where it aimed.

This is what I always hoped FFVII remake would be. The game cannot be rebuilt from the ground up as a massive current-Gen RPG. If it happens its just going to be a cleaner, prettier version of what we have. Which is fine with me.

Okay, this e3 is too much to handle. Even though doom didn't look awesome, of we get this, TLG, and shenmue 3, I've got a feeling that this place will get a little crazy.

I'm gonna go with this too, just in case the highly improbable likelihood of a full on remake actually is happening. That why I can be pleasantly surprised if it's true.

Would it be shown at Sonys conference or squares? I would imagine square would keep multi platform stuff at their conference and maybe show an exclusive ff7 at Sony but not sure. Don't be completely hyped for tonight

Whelp. That one TLG screenshot years back sold me on the game. Hold me gaf, it may be time for a PS4.

Did I read it right that TLG was being lined up for a holiday *2015* release?! That doesn't seem possible.

Also - y2kev has verified someone with TLG info. I don't think I can handle the paradox. #explodes#

Wow, so SE is now have 3 active huge projects in hand. FF XV, KH 3, and FF VII all at the same time of development cycle. Oh, and apparently the remake only need 2 years of development to finish.
Are they a bunch of wizards?
