WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?
Personally I would be expecting a remaster-esque remake by someone like Virtuos.

Higher resolution backgrounds with much newer looking character and enemy models, but nothing resembling something Ike Final Fantasy XV.

Personally thats all I would really want anyways. You go too far graphically and it becomes hard to retain the charm and funny moments (like honeybee inn) without it just becoming kind of weird.

The problem with remaking FFVII is that there is absolutely no way they can ever reach the expectations that would be created about it. If they do what you are suggesting, which I believe is more plausible, people will call it lazy, and talk about how dated the game is. If they go full on and make it from the ground up as a 3D game or something more like FFVX, or even FFXIII for that matter it won't be the same game and I doubt Square has the capability to make something as remarkable today as FFVII was back in the day. Hence the hype never gets fulfilled and disappointments arise.

This seems most reasonable.

Holy shiiiiiiit! After the PSX FF7 trolling last year and said they'd never get me again but here I am.

This is my first e3 as a poster here and I'm fuckin loving it. Ive been in tears of laughter with the gifs and hype. Amazing work everyone.

The hype has now fully consumed me and I'm staying up until 2 am UK time to watch the Sony conference.

Choo choooooooooooo!

You mean with ATB? Presumably a remake wouldn't mess with that too much.

On the other hand, unless it was remade to still be static backgrounds with models moving in front of them, I suspect the moment-to-moment movement through the world would have be done more like a modern game, which might mean changes to the combat as well.

In my fantasy scenario, the entire game would be remade in full 3D just like it was a brand new title.

And I wouldn't mind that, but I'd sort of hope that it wouldn't have random encounters. Maybe enemies you could run to like with the Tales games for instance.

This is one of the big things I was wondering about since it's something I could easily see being changed to a more modern setting with it being all one big area.

What an undertaking that would be though.

I imagine not only would Sony have to help with funding, but also help with development.
Square-Enix can't even seem to finish one of their mainline FFs in a reasonable amount of time these days, but a full remake of an 18 year old game?

Shiiiiii-it.

At this point I'm concerned with FFXV even making retail by the end of 2016. God knows how KH3's production is going. If (big 'if') a FFXVI has started production or even pre-production, where the hell would that leave a big FFVII Remake?

I dunno... makes my head hurt.

edit: just saw Y2Kev's post. Umm. Holy fuck?

This would definitely make sense and we have a precedent with SFV that they're willing to do this sort of thing. And yeah, I simply don't trust SE to do be able to handle it. I even thought that was one of the reasons we'd never see it was because even SE realized both how hard it would be and what the backlash would be if they screwed it up.

These are also big factors and leaving aside the release date for XV, the game also really needs to be good. FFXIV has proven to be a success, but they really need to produce an excellent single player FF I think.

I should point out that while I'd be excited to a degree, I don't hold the same affection many do for FFVII. I didn't play it till many years later and while thinking it was good, I ultimately preferred IX the most of the PS1 FF games. Of course, I don't need that remade at all. The only thing I'd like to see if the battle system sped up just a bit.

Because I'm totally confused, did he confirmed the fact that FFVIIR is real?

No. He/she is just in the position to know things (has to prove to mods how). Still can turn out wrong or don't show up at E3 since he/she "heard" things. It's just proof that he/she is not a 13 year old, posting shit on an internetforum to get attention.
Also like stated before, the poster seemed to have inside knowledge before, on a few occasions.

If Sony show up with FF7 Remake, the Last Guardian, AND Shenmue 3 (along with usual suspects of Uncharted 4, GT7, Ratchet, Dark Souls III, Bloodborne DLC, Guerilla RPG, Morpheus, etc), then idk what MS could do to compete in this E3 or this gen. It's just too much.

No seriously guys.

Do you not remember this? The biggest troll ever pulled off in a major conference?

Until I see it.

It's the long-con -- the bitter disappointment of yesteryear will make the final realization of our dreams all the sweeter on the morrow (no way they don't do this at their own conf. right? Or maybe announce tonight at Sony, more of a blow-out tomorrow?).

The only thing I would say is, that it would make complete sense to me that if The Last Guardian was shown again, it would be very close to release. No way in hell they'd show that again without a very solid release window given the 'original's' story. I think Yoshida even said as much, that it wouldn't be shown again until they were very certain of its release window, and you can only really get certain about these things close-ish to release.

THAT SAID... I still don't believe ;)

They should just replay the PS4 port announcement from last E3 and splice in the new digs. If anything it would let me and many others have a slight bit of harmonic resolution (see: convergence).

I want to be excited, but if it's just an HD version of the game I've played 100s of hours before without anything new, I just can't get hyped.

If they wanted it released for the games 20th anniversary they'd have 2 more years to work with. I think that's plenty of time.

I don't know men. If they do it "all hands on deck" like ARR then yes they might pull it off. But with FF XV and KH3 on the pipeline (also their reputation for mismanagement) I don't think it's viable.

Unless they only put out creative staff and let Sony do the heavy lifting.
