I wonder if the trailer was just made after the awful backlash the PC port got a few months ago, and they actually have not done any other work besides what was shown today.

I'm feeling more inclined to go with this interpretation. There was no reason to announce that earlier port if this was already in the pipeline. I'm so glad it exists, especially if that trailer represents the target visuals, but I fear it is at least several years away.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about Japanese culture (I'm an expert), but honor and shame are huge parts of it. It's not like it is in America where you can become successful by being an asshole. If you screw someone over in Japan, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.

What this means is the japanese public, after hearing about this, is not going to want to purchase FFVII Remake for either system, nor will they purchase any of Square's games. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Square has alienated an entire market with this move.

Square, publicly apologize and cancel FFVII Remake for One/PC or you can kiss your business goodbye.

Game must be very far from done. I do hope fans keep their expectations in check. I worry that regardless of how good this remake is, expectations have been building for so long that they will be impossible to match for some.

I'm also curious. I know some worried that if this ever came to fruition that it would be a sign of weakness for SE. Like they could never top "this" so they could only use it as a last resort. I wonder if that sentiment still holds. It was neither right or wrong but certainly an interesting perspective.

With Nomura being attached I bet it is quite far away since KH3 is probably late 2016 at the absolute earliest, most likely 2017. I bet FF7r is like 2018 maybe late 2017 sometime, since most likely FFXV comes out sometime next year.

But to your second part I think they were finally comfortable enough with the "new blood" to take over the main line, and have those classic names attached to a classic game while still moving forward with an ambitious forward thinking guy like Tabata.

Regardless of what happens, the game was and WILL sell a shit ton more on PS4. Even if it was all released on the same day. Sony doesn't need to waste cash when its virtually a pseudo-exclusive.

The fact that they're finally making it is exciting, but that CG teaser really makes me wish it was a fully realized 3d world to explore. Can you imagine? I was expecting a scene for scene remake before I saw that trailer.

The CG scenes were already different... Now I'm expecting a re-imagined new game... Not a slavish-to-the-original remake.
