At this rate they're going to have to develop two separate battle systems to appeal to the audience... They did it with Dissidia, right? One action, one turn based. Anyone can comment on the turn-based gameplay in Dissidia? never touched it.

Was that the first time seeing the actual distance to Junon and Kalm from Midgar displayed in miles/KM?

That means the world of FF7 can only be about 1000 m/km around at the most, haha.

If this wasn't caught already on the main site:

Isn't Roberto Ferrari the guy who designs the clothes on characters in FF15?

Honestly? it could go full ARPG and I'd still buy it. If the combat is good, I could care less what kind it is. Hell, a different take might be kind of cool anyway. Granted, I DO what something akin to the original the most. I think something like FF 13, except the combat and player inputs is still almost exactly the same, but what you see is more like what you saw the characters in 13 doing while you're just making inputs.

No, sorry, action combat would ruin this.

You have plenty of games to get your action fix if you want that, this is a remake not a re-imagining.

Refinements would definitely be cool, but it has to be grounded in the original as much as possible.

I hope realize there's basically no chance this will be the case. And turn-based, along with random encounters being in any way important to the series as a whole is bullshit. They're just the way things were done in RPGs back then. We've got better technology now and no longer have to deal with those shitty solutions that result in a less exciting and immersive game.

There is in fact a very good chance that they don't completely fuck the game into some kind of horrifying hybrid of a classic game and the inferior games that have come after. They've tried catering to people with your tastes, and the series has fallen in stature as a result. Your ideas are just plain bad.

XIII on the 360 sold 2 million units according to some websites. Almost all of them in America and Europe. The majority of units were on the PS3 (almost 3 to 1) but it is still a nice amount of copies sold. I think it will be on the One just to reach as many people as possible, but you can get close to that number without it being on the One if you include PC and how many people would likely buy a PS4 to play it, especially as the price of the system goes down.

How well has the PC versions sold so far? Not talking just FFVII remaster, but including FFVIII and XIII?

People asking for something other than turn based will likely play it anyway if it's amazing. This is going to sell buckets regardless of the combat system.

There's no reason to change it, just need to refine it.

I get that it'd ruin it for some people. But in my opinion, I've waited so long for this. If it did a different take that was still good and enjoyable, I'd accept it. I hope for it to be as akin to the original as possible, but if it's not I'll be fine dealing with it.

Yall who think it will be 'ruined' by departing from the previous battle system may as well stop paying attention now, honestly. It'll be like XIII at most; but almost certainly an ARPG

Absolutely. People have been clamoring for a FFVII remake for years, and now what some people actually seem to want is FFXIII with FFVII characters in it. Awful.

Here's hoping they respect the original vision of the game, and don't ruin it by turning it into a completely different game.

Besides, removing random encounters from other FFs didn't relegate combat, so your argument has no grounding.

It very much did, that is what my opinion is based on, having played FF games with both solutions and one being clearly inferior, that being visible enemies.

You and I are very much on the same page.

Tifa looks great, Barret lost something, looks like stereotypical black marine guy now.

He lost size.

In the original, he's an overwhelming behemoth of a man. The Brock Lesnar of Midgar.

They need to retain that and not by shrinking Cloud to New York Fashion Week levels.

Yep. Barret and Tifa got redesigns too.

I think those are cool. Tifa is pretty much the same but Barret isn't that Mr. T caricature any more.

I dunno, he can still be tall and big without comical proportions, that image is just deceiving when Tifa's portrait is larger.

Have faith, I think they realise by now how cherished this game is.

Except it didn't.

Fact: people will still engage with the combat system like this for the xp and rewards. Often. Far too often for it to be relegated to a secondary position.

I lost my shit as soon as I saw the green lifestream across the entire stage screen... I'm surprised how people didn't seem to pick up on that...

Ahh looks like Square knows what to do. All the Action games besides New Mana are on the consoles. And all the turn based games are on a handheld.
Looks like we won't have to worry about FFVII:Remake. Since it'll be on PS4 it'll also be action. :)
