This is why Nintendo doesn't do live events at E3 anymore. They announce games when they are relatively close to launch. They will probably have an event in the fall to announce more Wii-U titles for 2016.

They aren't going to abandon Wii-U but they had their lineup for Wii-U this year. Mario Maker, Star Fox, Xenoblade, and Yoshi are going to close out 2015. Fire Emblem will be the start of 2016 and Zelda will be holiday 2016 most likely. I am sure they will announce more for 2016 in typical Nintendo fashion aka whenever the hell they feel like (I think they usually want stuff to be closer to finished before they launch).

Although I will say one thing this was a really good show for the 3-DS really shows they plan another good generation of games for it and that they probably won't be replacing it till 2017. Metroid, Zelda, and Mario Tennis among others was a strong showing for that system. Wii-U on the other hand was weak, not much support for that system outside of what had been previously announced.

They knocked in out of the park with this one. My goodness, I cannot WAIT to go beat my gamepad off the wall until it shatters because fucking hell that hurt my soul thinking about how I bought a Wii U this past Sunday...

Why? The Wii U already has a solid library of games.

This is exactly what screwed them with the Wii to WiiU transition.

The successor system isn't ready, but rather than go for a big blow out to show off the old systems potential and get the current owners hyped, they've just given up and moved on.

They need their Last of Us like games, stuff that can be 'remastered' to draw in new customers on NX, and keep the diehards happy and talking about it.

This just tells us they won't support their systems for the entirety of a generation. And that's a shitty message to send to people you want to give you money.

May contain jokes =>
Looks at the last game ue bought....Splatoon, remind me how Nintendo are creatively bankrupt? Im not defending this e3 for Nintendo (im not crazy) but it seems to me like development has shifted to NX launch.

Splatoon is/was awesome but it doesn't excuse 5 years of Nintendo's MO being "I dunno Mario something lol"

The WiiU overall is a joke completely. Yes, obviously they're shifting focus to NX but why would anyone have any faith that they'll do better with that? They've not given you any reason to be confident.

Was enjoyable to watch, but light on meat. Star fox looks solid, finally a Xenoblade release date, Mario Maker should be good. Seems like it would have been better as a Direct later on and not tossed in with the breathless hype machines that are the Sony/MS presentations. Nothing in it that really made me sit up and take notice.

Props for sticking to through early 2016 though. All the games being shown for 2017 on by everyone is very grated to me - anything coming out, between the various conferences, after next E3 might as well have been a pointless Blur made CG trailer for all the relevance it would have.

So what do you know, Blast Ball is part of a Metroid game!
Surprise! /sarc

It's been a really low-key presentation but a highlight for me is Mario Tennis. I asked for it before and I got it.

Probably the biggest disappointment is that the AC Wii U game is an amiibo party game.

Also, is Federation Forge Retro's game?

One of the worst 45 minutes stream I've seen in years, very few can be saved.
Here hoping that NX is a console, a good one, and that it will launch with some serious stuff.

Wow. When they said neither Zelda nor the NX would be talked about, I was sure there'd be some kind of a big surprise to take their place. But there was... well, there was a lot of stuff that was announced at last year's E3. And a couple of nice 3DS announcements, but nothing surprising.

It's shows like this one that reinforce the notion that Nintendo is out of ideas. There wasn't even anything on a Project STEAM level of creativity.

I get that they're probably moving on internally to NX. I get that Wii U at this point is unsalvageable. But my god.

That was AWFUL.

I uhm, liked the puppets?

Not really sure what I feel on this on a a whole. Some good stuff, and ome really out of touch stuff as well. Using Wii Fit Trainer as an example, when it's an Amiibo many can't even find seems it would hve an unintended effect.

Starfox Zero looks rough as shit and I don't care about that Animal Crossing party game and this Skylander game.
The Mario crossover-RPG looks neat and Super Mario Maker will surely be great.

Yeah, it wasn't a great presentation.
Nintendo must be preparing those megatons for NX...., right?

edit.: How could I forget about Metroid Federation Force?! What the fuck, Retro???!

What surprised me the most is no proper Amiibo game in the vein of Infinity or Lego Dimensions. That boggles my god damn mind, looks like it'll continue to be glorified DLC.

It's quite clear that they wanted to focus on games that would be available soon, because companies often get a lot of flack for doing otherwise. The issue was, as many people have pointed out previously, we knew a lot of what Nintendo had to offer for the Wii U in the coming months. It's one of the problems with having an almost bi-monthly Direct.

That being said, I'm glad the 3DS is getting a lot of support. I was a bit worried that they had abandoned it. However, there were only a few games that I was genuinely excited about it.

I appreciate they want to give their current games the respect they need, but it really made the entire a event a bit of a downer. We all know that come December and January, we usually get a big Direct, but still. It was kind of a let down.

Now, about the things I enjoyed. I think Mario Tennis looks great! They did a really good job with making it look nice, I just hope it has an online mode. Star Fox looks great as well! I can't wait to play that at the end of the year. The Animal Crossing stuff was nice, while it wasn't exactly what I had hoped for, it's still nice. No release date for the amiibo, though?

The ending was nice, as well. If I had to give the whole thing a letter grade? I'd probably give it a C or C+.

Terrible conference. Not only was the conference terrible, it was boring. Why? Because it nearly had no announcements. I wanna see games and not humans. And then, to slap you in the face, they are shitting on the Metroid franchise.
Horrible :(

Started off really promising, then Skylanders came along and all the other stuff that no one ever asked for. I had low expectations but somehow they still managed to let me down.

Highlights are, to me, Mario & Luigi and Starfox, the worst ones were Animal Crossing Monopoly and Mario Tennis.

I really hope that this at least points towards a strong start for the NX.

I doubt they will even talk about wii u next e3, they're obviously focusing development on zelda and maybe Metroid and other ip on nx,starfox zero will probably be the last big Nintendo franchise on the system, wii u is a sinking ship for sure now, i dont expect any new games for it outside of the ones already announced.
I love my wii u but man I feel so despondent now...

I enjoyed it. Wasn't expecting much, considering they have a new platform around the corner and it already looked like they announced their remaining heavy hitters for the Wii U last year.

I would've loved a new 1080 game this holiday, though.

Why? The Wii U already has a solid library of games.

That's all it has now. Looks like they're giving up on it as soon as possible. I'll play every one of the good games already out, but buying a brand new system for only the backlog sucks.

Is it really that hard to have an exciting direct without Smash info? I guess so. What an embarrassment, especially after Sony killed it last night. I can't believe they ended on a damn anniversary contest/thing. Not even a game!

REALLY disappointed. I took the afternoon off from work just for Nintendo and they have me disappointed me at E3 2008 levels. Truly deceiving. They are letting Wii U die and not caring at all for all of us who own it. You know what? They said that they focused on 2015 and early 2016 titles, but it happens that in 2016 they will launch the NX, so all E3 2016 will be dedicated to NX. No more Wii U titles. They are LAUGHING AT US IN OUR FACE. Metroid? Have a f****king spin-off that could be made by an indie studio. Animal Crossing? Yes, a party game. Zelda? Sure: an awful cooperative 3DS game.

Nintendo has been transformed, yes, Reggie, you are right. You have now become the company making the minimum effort for their users.

I lost my faith on this company today.

Remember two days ago when they had won E3?

Never change, internet.

well i mean there were 3ds games and i didn't want to be tempted to buy a wii u anyways so

i guess i was nintendo's target audience today

Months ago, when Nintendo said they'd only be talking about 2015 games, a lot of people called them out and smelt something fishy but were shut down by a lot of Nintendo fans. Now look.

It's clear as day Wii U is on the way out and that Zelda will be an NX game. Your flagship console gets zero new game reveals outside of Mario Tennis and Mario party with an Animal Crossing skin? Best believe NX will launch in 2016 with Zelda Next.

Nintendo knows its futile supporting this system much more anymore, especially when there aren't that many owners who'd be upset by it.
