Halo |OT 24| In Before the Locke

I quite like the carbine scope. A bit goofy, but works for me. SAW scope is like the AR.

Most Warzone vids I have seen so far have terrible players, thus hard to get an idea of what a decent match looks like. I saw one where a dude ripped the enemy team pretty much solo, because they were SO BAD.

Btb will Be normal arena style btb, just with vehicles.

But will BTB be 12v12?

Will it be on maps made for Warzone, or will the Warzone maps be altered to accommodate a smaller BTB size?

What I'm getting at here is, that I'd rather stick to a mode made for the maps if that's the case.

Carbine scope just looks straight weird.

It looks like the Spartan is just putting it in the middle of their face.

Well, I left the AR out because we've already seen it in the beta, and it looks goofy as fuck too. Honestly, I wish if they were going down the ADS route, they should have just redesigned all of the weapons to make sense with it.

Why is it standing upright?
Because that's how Dustin Echoes set it down.

Why couldn't I pick it up or give me ammo?
You aren't worthy to lift Dustin Echoes' assault rifle.

Why is the light on?
It isn't.

Man CEA is such a beautiful game.
It's very pretty. Certainly a worthwhile way to try Halo 1, even if it suffered from the deadline and has some feedback and geometry representation issues.

Awesome but gas it been explained how LCE owners get to pre-load?

Apparently a code 1 day before release, I just have to locate the source again.

Also random FYI: The Fall of Reach animated series had a tag line something like "exploring the origins of John and Blue Team". Fucking cool.

We've talked about this here at E3 so I expect it will come out in the press coverage over the next couple of days. For Warzone we have two different variants planned:

1. The core mode, which is focused on the combination of 12v12 player-versus-player action, base capture and AI-controlled combatants (including bosses). This is what we are demoing and is playable here on the E3 show floor.

2. A Base Assault attack/defend scenario in which one team is attempting to defend each base on a map and the other is pressing to capture the base and push them back in timed phases. The defenders are attempting to hold the base until time runs out. As the attackers manage to capture each base, they force the defenders back and extend time until they are assaulting the Home Base of the defending team and trying to destroy their core. This variant focuses solely on PvP without AI adversaries.

The mode plays differently depending on the variant. In addition, we are working on a more classic BTB experience with timed weapon and vehicle spawns, and this will be introduced shortly after launch with a number of maps specifically optimized for BTB.

I like that, reminds me of invasion.

Thanks for the clarification Frank. I''m actually very excited again. October will be here before we know it and we can all start Now all we need to see are the maps, how many, what's the breakdown between modes (ie. 8 arena, 5 BTB, 4 Breakout, 3 Warzone etc).

Can't wait to see armors too. Classic Mark VI already there. So let's see what else returns. The Noble Commando so much more improved.

Marks IV and V would send my hype into overdrive.

Good to see Invasion back :)

So, no classic BTB at launch ... Hope "shortly after launch" won't be too long.

Wha what? Not at launch? Will these maps be taking up part of the 15 maps we are getting for free?

No but like, shortly. after. launch. Wow.

Great, it all sounds interesting. Why will this be introduced after launch though? Is it to give people enough time to try out Warzone as their big team fix first? If so, can't say it's a bad idea considering you could receive data on heatmaps and other info helpful to crafting a balanced BTB experience.

And I really hope Power-ups have a strong presence in Halo 5 multiplayer. Reach removed them, Halo 4 brought them back, and haven't seen anything but a glimpse of OS in Halo 5. Arena, Warzone, 4v4, BTB, Power-ups are essential to Halo combat imho.

EDIT:
Wait what? No BTB at all on launch? Why? I get the new mode probably took most of the development and time but it seems kind of as if you WANT people to move to Warzone as their only fix for large scale Halo matches. Especially if 'after launch' is really several months.
I think it's important they discuss a timeframe because I'm sure that's what everyone is wondering. They could benefit from PR explaining data gathering to improve Arena BTB on these large maps. See what weapons people are using where, what vehicles are too dominant on what maps, so many things. Give us time to thoroughly check out Warzone, then bam, make an event out of Arena BTB.
Well that intention's honestly kind of a given.
It may be a given, but they need to explain it in a positive manner, otherwise fans may just see it as something unnecessarily being taken away from them. PR, breh.

We’ll also give players the option to purchase REQ Packs as a matter of convenience, with a portion of the proceeds going toward prize pools for the Halo Championship Series.

So now the most vulnerable in Halo society are lining the pockets of the MLG babies?!

BTB delayed for war zone sucks. Does that 'optimised for BTB' line mean BTB is just modified war zone maps? Bungie made that mistake in Reach with Invasion. Fingers crossed that BTB isn't largely composed of forge maps with variable frame rates and monotone colour.

Wow Frankie and Josh basically told us 2 different things.

Frankie: Warzone doesn't replace BTB is still there and normal.

Josh: there is no btb only warzone at launch and btb will use its maps.

Uhm sounds for me like it IS replacing btb for a limited time...

They didn't tell us 2 different things at all. Josh just clarified the timing on regular BTB arena and want to release it in good form.

I think one of us is misreading what he said:

To me this sounds like maps made for BTB.

To be honest I doubt BTB will use Warzone maps because its been publically stated that Warzone maps aren't forgeable environments which would piss users off because that then means some BTB maps would not be customizable.

I would wait until they tell us what does this "HCS support" mean before jumping out of joy

A portion of the money goes towards the HCS prize pools.

Eh, did they say the maps aren't forgeable? It's possible that you just can't play Warzone on forged maps. I don't see why we couldn't forge on the Warzone maps and play other gamemodes on them.

Ah shame, I was hoping for all the arena maps to be well made for 4v4.

I don't understand your disappointment. Frank just clarified that BTB will be arena style with everyone having the same weapon at spawn and only cosmetic items. Of course the core "arena" maps are optimized for 4v4. That's what HCS is all about.

If anything, this is good news because it allows us to play traditional BTB when we don't want to play Warzone. This also means, as Josh has stated, that there are maps specifically made or optimized for traditional BTB in mind.

Seems like everyone is a winner. Halo 5 is shaping up to have so much worthwhile variety.

I can kinda understand what he's saying. There's not going go be a whole lot of maps for each mode, even with 20 maps at launch. Assuming Warxone and BTB have seperate maps; there will be maps for 4v4, Warzone maps, BTB maps and Breakout maps.

So for those who are only interested in classic 4v4 style Halo, it's possible there will only be a small pool of maps to play with.

Yes but how much money is that? 1%? 10%? It could be actually meaningful (like Dota compendiums) or it could just be lip service.

I imagine it would be a reasonable amount. 343 has to find the money for the prize pools anyway.

Josh did say over on Beyond that they are considering skins for the HCS teams, that could be very cool. I'd pay money for a Team Liquid skin.

The use of the word optimized as opposed to developed has me thinking differently. They could have templates of the Warzone maps, cut out large parts with soft kill and hard kill barriers and consider them 8v8 maps.

It makes little sense to me, that they'd have BTB maps created but would wait till after launch. This means either BTB maps won't be on disc, or that they'll use maps on disc but tweak them when BTB goes live.

I promised not to focus on negatives, and to stay positive, but I can't deny this news isn't a little deflating. I'm all for Warzone because it doesn't detract from Arena. But when Warzone is the only larger than 4v4 multi-player available, then I'm not as supportive. Because not only are we losing Firefight/Spartan Ops for this mode, but we're losing BTB for the foreseeable future. What constitutes after launch? Is it Halo 4 after launch where we didn't see Slayer Pro or Spartan Ops season 2 until January or February, or MCC after launch, where we don't see the issues fixed until several months later etc.

Oh well, I guess thems the breaks. I hope time management is perfect and they get BTB in as quick as possible. It's literally as popular if not more than team Slayer these days.

I mean, correct me if I'm mistaken, but didn't Josh say in the interview they were shooting for OVER 20 maps? Either way, yeah I want there to be a lot of 4v4 maps so as long as the DLC keeps a decent offering of GOOD maps for Arena then we're alright.

EDIT: I know 343 has a lot on their plate, but they NEED to nail this at launch. Launch time is the most crucial to sustaining that initial population spike. Especially with CoD and a lineup of other fantastic games coming a week+ later. And we already know how Halo 4 was not in a great state at launch, and I don't need to go over MCC. They make the correct fixes and do a great job of it, but they're usually too late by then.

Well in that case I totally understand. I can't imagine there being more than 3 Warzone Maps. The maps are so big and play so dynamically (as far as I can tell) that making a bunch of them might be a waste?

I really hope 2v2 makes a return. Halo 4 2v2 would have been golden if it wasn't for the random drops and instant spawn shenanigans.

Bungie was asked this question when they came out with firefight and it has to do with how they can't program the AI around user generated objects. I know nothing about coding but it has everything to do with the AI programing.

I know this. I'm saying playing on forged Warzone maps in a different game mode. I can understand we wouldn't be able to play Warzone on forged maps, however I don't see why we couldn't play standard BTB on forged Warzone maps.
