NEW No Man's Sky Details (GAMEPLAY, ATLAS, CRAFTING,)

Didn't Sean say that if you destroy a whole species of animals or something of that sort, it just wouldn't appear for you but it would for others?

No, I think it was that if you do small scale things, it won't affect others' games, but if you did something on a massive scale, like killed every animal of a species on a planet, then that impact would be seen by everyone. Could be wrong though.

For the "BUT WHAT DO YOU DO?!" crowd. Watch this video:

OH MY GOD WHY AREN"T WE SEEING THIS SHIT?! :(
How do I scrub through it, or view the archive? On Safari, it just says, "Live Broadcast," where the scrubber should be. =/

Edit: Never mind. I can scrub in Chrome. It just doesn't full-screen properly. /shrug

Seems like there's two clear different groups in these threads: people who don't understand the point of exploring for the sake of exploration and people who love to do that
There are 10 types of people in the world; those who understand binary, and those who don't.

Do we know how persistent terrain deformation is? I know how terrain is generated (with the algorithm they developed or whatever), but I don't know how that generation could account for and keep track of all that terrain deformation.
For the most part, it probably isn't persistent. Sean said the game won't keep track of every little alteration you make, but if you make a significant change — like wiping out an entire species — that will be noted and uploaded back to the central servers.

So, if you land on a planet and bust up a few rocks, the next visitor probably won't notice any difference, but if you level an entire mountain range, that may persist.

Lame if true.
I swear he said that, I just don't remember where. I think it was in an interview with Game Informer.

Yeah, I was hyped at first because I was just going to be destroying everything I could so others wouldn't see what I saw. Lol.

Looks like I'm wrong. Lol. Can't wait to wipe shit out.

The real details I'm waiting for, is when will there be an OT for this game? That's really the pressing matter here. Lol

I quite like the discussion that comes about from his stance though, even if I disagree with him. The diamonds for weapons in Minecraft equivalent would be your ship and weapons, which are upgradeable with the stuff you scavenge and find.

I feel like the conversation would move faster if he just listened to what they were actually saying. He is also asking questions that were answered like a year ago.

Love the passion on display though. Really digging Gametrailers these days.

I was anticipating this title when all I had was a PS4, but there are other space/exploration options that I'd rather experience on my PC. I'm glad for the developers that Sony is helping them.

That guy on the left of the stream with the "I WILL NEVER LET ANYONE TALK I NEED NUMBERS" bullshit got me mad pissed.

Like I want to know what's going on too but if someone's explaining what they know stop talking over them. Fucksakes.

My expectations are inline with what I expect a small studio to be able to put out. This still looks like a game that could hold my attention for months and be really special. I'd just love to see a solid 15 minute walkthrough where it doesn't feel like they are holding back. Find a somewhat exciting planet and just go at it.

Planets are not planet-sized. I'm with the hype on the game but this just isn't true. If they were planet sized, it wouldn't be days of exploration, it'd be decades.

Remember Mercury is a planet and if you have a ship that can cross the stars that scale can be quite crossed.

I'm glad to finally get more details, and now I understand why they don't show shit for this game---they don't want to show it so you can experience it firsthand.

The developer feels if you are told/shown more and more of the game, then it will have less of an impact on you when you do play it, and will make it less of an experience.

Understandable there.

I am in the camp though that is frustrated not knowing what all you can do within the game, because I NEED to know before I say here's $60.00 bucks. Like if I bought No Man's sky, and then it turned out to be a Monster High Kids game... I'd be furious. That's why I need to know more on its mechanics.

I don't need to know why we are going to the center or how to get there, but I do need to know there is trading in the game, upgrades, character creation, what all you can do on a planet, difficulty, rewards, punishments, etc. These things could make me want to day one the game, or of course steer clear.

As it stands it sounds like a less interesting Minecraft, and I'm not into Minecraft, so this game is not targeted towards me just like a Barbie game wouldn't be geared towards me.

What will upset me though is if this game WAS made for my tastes, but due to poor selling of it to audiences, I never pick it up and therefore miss out on something that could be truly fantastic.

Oh well. I again will have to wait for GAF's impressions/reviews that will go into details to see if the game was worth all the hush hush around it or not.

How would you miss it if its a good game and you get good WoM? You don't need to buy the thing Day 1.

Plus - all the things you've mentioned in your post have already been covered. Iceyflamez and Legacyzero have both made huge posts about 'What We Know About No Man's Sky' with answers to all that.

I am just apprehensive that this will go same route as Spore went. A lot of awesome promises which turned out to be all a lot less in reality. All depends how good their AI is and how good is the procedural generation algorithm.

You didn't get to trade with other cultures, fight ship-to-ship battles, upgrade your ship, shoot sentinels, etc in Spore did you? Other than the fact that both games have a ton of procedurally generated life on various planets, I fail to see how both games are similar at all.

Nice to see more details emerge, the near ubiquitous comparison of every game ever to Dark Souls in the OP was amusing

The only thing I'd want them to add at some point later(maybe and expansion) is giving players the tools to build a home.

While I really dig that exploration is the most important thing I feel like it would be very valuable to players to get that feeling of being home after long voyages of the unknown.

So once you get far into the game and are able to make it to the center of the galaxy, your engine will be "maxed out" and able to travel anywhere, correct?

So if there is no story, what's the point of even making the goal the center of the universe? Seems a bit at odds.

There's no real story reason to get to "The End" and fight the boss in Minecraft either, but that goal still exists if you choose to engage in it.

So, plan of action:

Find the most hostile planet in the galaxy.

Upgrade gear and ship and set up base deep within planets core.

Find the most populated planet in the galaxy.

Destroy planet.

Hide in my base, let everyone destroy themselves trying to get to the bounty (me)

Rinse repeat.

Sounds like a game for me!!

This is the one thing I don't like the sound of, but it won't ruin the experience or anything by any means:
You will be able to see other players, but can only see a few at the same time. So if loads of people gathered in the same place, they wouldn't all see each other.

I feel it's my obligation to do this, since I still see people asking. Here is:

It's not possible to misunderstand what the game is, what it's about, what you'll be doing, how it works, and how it's possible on a technical level after seeing those.
This just made me even more hyped. Do we know if PC and PS4 players will be in the same universe/server?

Also, when do we think this will release? Relatively soon, or will it be a bit? I know they've said 2015, but I hope it isn't fall or holiday. I want to have as much time for it as possible.

Oh god I hope we can build bases or ships large enough to use as a base.

I feel for Sean Murray. This culture of needing every single element of a game spelled out to people in a clear and gamified way has to be killing him. The spirit of true science fiction exploration "Go where no man has gone before" is dead. Everyone needs everything to have a point, and a meaning, and a clear defined goal, and some huge lore attached to it, and levels to attain, and experience points to makes bars grow. It's too bad.

At the same time, I do think this is the last time they can show up at a show with what's basically the same demo because people are already starting to turn on the game. I think they should do dark and not pop back up until announcing an imminent release date, like a few weeks prior to it coming out.

Step 1 will literally taker you forever.

there will be a monster wiki for this game lol

I cannot wait to lose my months in this

also EVE Online cost too much for me to play so I am glad a game like this exists

What do we think will be in the center? I just read that it's a black hole on the star map, but I'm guessing that's just to hid what's really there. Maybe it's actually a wormhole to a universe only inhabited by those who made it to the center? Like a new game+ type universe or something.

Mercury would still take a hell of a long time to travel around. Based on the planet he visited at E3, it really didnt seem that big. Like maybe the size of Skyrim at best.

I highly doubt any planet will be the size of say the explorable area of Daggerfall.

Every time someone mentions about what could be at the center of the map, I keep remembering the epic quest layed down by the game creator James Halliday from Ready Player One.

Anyone else think that with the ambitious and near limitless potential of this game mirrors that of James Halliday from Ready Player One?

My curiosity of what is at the center alone would get me to play. Is there intelligent life, maybe humans who inhabit the center? Could a Mother Brain-esque antagonist be in the center, waiting to be destroyed by you to restore balance to the universe (lol no)? Man, the possibilities are endless.

Sean did say that getting to the center would provide closure for those who need it, but would also give players a reason to continue exploring the universe. So it definitely sounds like a new game+ thing. Maybe you get to the center and a bunch of secrets are scattered throughout the universe and you have to find them? I don't know. But what I do know is that I can't wait to find out.

I feel like I understand exactly how this game is going to play, and I can't wait to experience it.

Its a definite buy for me but I'm kinda bummed out there won't be a legitimate multiplayer (as in inviting a friend to play and discover a planet with you). I would imagine it shouldn't be that difficult to implement if they have all of this running in the game.

You find Matthew McConaughey

It's not possible to misunderstand what the game is, what it's about, what you'll be doing, how it works, and how it's possible on a technical level after seeing those.

+Friends will not take priority when it comes to who can see who.

+You will be able to see other players, but can only see a few at the same time. So if loads of people gathered in the same place, they wouldn't all see each other.

+There will be a way for players to communicate with each other, and leave little messages. And there will be a place where you can leave them, which will be connected. So from one place you could see things from other places as well.

So the social aspect seems very much like Dark Souls. It's intentionally limited, which kinda blows. If they follow through on PC modification, surely we can change that.

Can you run into other human players while you're exploring? Sorry if it's been asked dozens of times before.

Edit: I see the answer on the previous page now.
