The game looks and sounds amazing, all I want to know is, when is it coming out. That's the most pertinent information for me.

"Although not revealed so far, there will also be surprises hidden in the darkness and between the suns: black holes, dead planets, strange mysteries and aggressive peoples"

HOLY SHIIIIIT! So what that means is, if you some how want to travel between stars without warping, you may come across "dead planets" that were flung away from their parent star's orbit due to strong gravity from its neighboring planets. Even BLACK HOLES!

THATS HUGE!

The Danny O Dwyer interview left it ambiguous

Seems like they are very much still in that grindy limbo stage where they are uneasy going towards the finish line.

Creators curse i guess?

On the one hand, I just read a glowing Kotaku preview. On the other hand, Gamekult still thinks this is an "interactive screen saver". I don't know what to think of this game.

I'm refreshing their Steam page waiting for the preorder button.

I wonder if they think the same of Minecraft.

Hallmark of the younger gamer?

I thought since the Minecraft generation the assumption is the opposite

You're absolutely right, when talking about teens or pre-teens. My daughter is 10 and loves Lego Worlds for just wandering about and exploring.

I'm an old fart, so "younger gamer" in my original context means in their 20's ;)

Every Galaxy has a Super Massive Blackhole at its center, I wouldn't be surprised if the secret at the center of NMS had something to do with that.

And it's a wormhole into another galaxy with quadrillions of more planets.
I want to believe.

I want to sit in a room with Sean Murray and just listen to him talk about this game.

Well, first and foremost, I just want to play the game, of course, but I'd love to hear him talk about design and his inspiration and his vision.

If they don't do something the game will end with a lot of its planets totally destroyed by players. Would suck for late players.

Lol, there are QUINTILLIONS of planets in this game. Even if this game gets ten million players, each playing for a thousand hours and visiting each planet for only one minute, that won't even make a microscopic dent in the total amount of content. This game is, for all practical purposes, infinite.

So no, that's not the reason they're doing it. It's probably to add some action and tension to even the most "boring" planets, and there's also a lore connection I believe. There's some mysterious power governing the galaxy, about which we will find out more by playing the game and making our way toward the center.

Hmmm.... A dead planet like that would be difficult to light up unless it has lava or some kind of lumniscent plant life. Wonder how they'll handle it. maybe they'll just say "fuck it" and just have it lit up anyway.

Probably a blip on the map, picked up by sensors or something.

Yep. Sean has already confirmed that its a Super Massive Black Hole.

If I had to wager a guess, itll be kinda like the movie Interstellar where SPOILER:
he goes INSIDE it and there is some massive secret.

Not every Black hole is a super-massive one though. So I imagine we'll run into smaller ones that may have something special.

No Man's Sky has some pretty impressive lighting tech, so I imagine if its not near a sun, then we'll have to rely on radar, and of course what you mentioned. IM SO EXCITED!

I cannot wait for this game, I like that we don't know everything and I just want to explore stuff. It's going to be another Minecraft, I think in terms of the range of people enjoying this game in tons of different ways.

Give us a date, Sean!!

So hmm, let's just say if a player destroys the planet that I found and named, or make a mess of its ecosystem or resources, I wonder if it would be possible to "hunt" him/her. Or is it that the state of world is unique for each player? In that if player 1 destroys planet A and it's no longer there in his game but in player 2's game that planet A is just fine and dandy?

It would be massively disappointing for me if the repercussion for everything that a player does is strictly limited to his/her world only.
As long as their online/report after doing it that planet is fuked, the sentials and space police will try and stop them but maybe they won't always succeed

That's not what they said!
[C]ette présentation n'aura rien apporté de concret à la foule des sceptiques, pour qui Hello Games fait depuis deux ans les couvertures de magazines avec un économiseur d'écran interactif.

This presentation had nothing concrete to satisfy the hordes of skeptics who believe Hello Games has made magazine covers with nothing more than an interactive screen saver.

They're not saying it's their opinion, they're saying it's someone's opinion.

The real question I have is, can I just fly to a star I see in the distance, without warping. If so, that would be nuts.

It's something to ponder that younger people love games where you can explore about and some of us older people can't find the pleasure in that.

The answer is irrelevant either way.

The game either allows you to do so, and you either die before you get there or, if they allow you to accelerate to .99c, then it takes 5-10 years.

Or they don't allow you to do it.

Either way, you can't do it.

Uploaded this to Youtube, in case anyone can't view Twitch. Very entertaining discussion!

That was interesting to watch, but there is a catch to this angle of "go an explore, I will not tell you what to do. You make your own journey and build your own experience".

Having played Minecraft, having "played" Space Engine extensively, that is simply not true in an ultimate sense. I think what people want to know are the rules this game sets upon you, this is something that is not up to you. These are rules that come directly from the developers.

When you wander around in Minecraft, doing nothing, only looking at what the landscape has in store for you then you are still following rules. You may drown in water or fall to your death. When it gets dark, the monsters come out. You better have light with you or build a cave or home to get protection.

When you don't wander around and just digging down into the ground and start making a gigantic cave, you are still following rules. You come in contact with lava, you better have a bucket of water with you or might get hurt or even die. You better have a pickaxe with you when your shovel breaks.

Those are rules that will be present in some form or others in No Mans Sky too. They are not very well explained at the moment, do they need to be? Probably not, we will find out soon enough once we get the game in our hands. But it makes me think, why would it be so bad having a grasp of the games mechanics before even playing the game?

I strongly believe that these rules will make or break the game, Minecraft becomes a very different game when you change the rules there. There may be an unbelieveable amount of different planets and maybe lifeforms in No Mans Sky, but the rules that define this universe and how you interact with it, if they are not up to par with that then it all doesn't matter much in the end.

Game is meant to be on official PS live stream thing today. I'm hoping we get the release date then... though if we do I can't think of a reason as to why they'd delay reveal from live presser to live stream.

That's awesome. I wonder if we'll find more black/bleak space in between the star systems. Not that I have a problem with the colorfulness, but it'd be cool for some of those those inbetween sectors to feel eerie

You can, but it may take a while. That goes back to what we are discussing upt the page a bit. Some of the stuff you'll encounter on the trip between stars.

EDIT: Sean has confirmed that you can do it, but they havnt actually done it to get an accurate amount of time. I imagine the time could also vary on how many lightyears is between each star.

As awesome as this game looks/sounds, when it's too much of a sandbox, where I feel I don't really have a point, I lose interest after the initial "wow" factor dies off. I hope this has a little more direction to it in the end. I need a purpose. Some sort of goal besides make it to the center of the universe...

There us one main objective. Get to the bright light in the center on the galaxy. Your journey there will mainly be about collecting the fuel and resources to make that happen. The journey becomes more difficult in the way, with stronger enemies and such. This is ALL OPTIONAL, of course.

As a child you haven't been brow-beaten by society to think that there must be a goal/result. Exploring and learning go hand in hand and that simple joy is still there.

For me as an adult I now feel that if I don't "accomplish" something in my sit down time with a game I feel like it was a waste. I think it is our hyper-speed, results driven, capitalistic society that does this to us.

Is there a multiplayer component to this game? It would be rad if this was somewhat of an MMO and randomly seeing other players in planets you're exploring

They've compared the multiplayer to Journey. So there's no matchmaking or anything. Basically how you imagined it.

How the hell was he ignorant of things I knew from what they said after the 2nd time they showed it when this is the 4th time(?) Despite him wanting to know everything

That seems to be a theme with this game. People complaining that we haven't been told anything about how X works when in fact that information is out there and known by those who are ACTUALLY interested in the game.

You'll be bored in this game after 1 hour when the novelty of the open world wears off. If I'm wrong I'll buy a steam copy of the game for five gaffers.

I'll take that bet. I don't get bored with Space Engine which literally has 0 gameplay so I think this will keep me entertained for more than an hour.

How do you prove this bet though? Do you mean, that you, personally will get bored of it, or people in general? Because I'm sure some people will, and some people won't. And I'd like a PSN copy please :D

Is the game crossplay between PS4 and PC? I wonder if it's one unique world to discover for the two communities or if it's one for each.

I don't believe there is cross-platform play.

Why isn't that enough of a goal
