Batman: Arkham Knight - Review Thread

All of you guys are getting the game early and I won't be able to play the game until the Monday after it comes out because of vacation. :(

I just realized this is the ultimate first world problem.

Sleeping Dogs has some car stuff that you have to do in order to advance the history, I had no problem there and Im 100% sure I will have no problem with the freaking batmobile jeez...

Lol what is up with the story. Some reviewers says that's best part of game and others say it's worse part. If nothing else, I'm intrigued.

I'd imagine it's super cheesy comic book plot. Some hate, some love. Probably the same we've seen in the past 2 Rocksteady games.

Thanks for the response. Are there any other good places to get games early for future? I've always heard good stuff about TGC but normally just end up with Amazon for price and reliability.

SimplyGames too.

I never use Amazon, as these two are nearly always cheaper if you use a discount code, wait on a sale or use reward points.

Come on, have more confidence in Rocksteady than this!

Three days early! I fucking love The Game Collection

TGC and Simply Games are great. They always deliver my games days early. Sure beats waiting for Amazon Logistics to delivery it to me on the evening/night of launch day.

2 days dammit!!

Can we talk about the Character Trophies? I loved them in the previous games especially since you got to check out and admire all the details on the models. So as good as Arkham Knight looks and this time they're actually animated!

When we can expect the PS4 version to start pre loading, it's gonna take me a while with my internet connection, so it better start very soon.

Tomorrow.

EDIT: They might let you today. They allowed it early for the past couple of big downloads with TW3 and ESO.

Damn

After the DF article about performance, I wonder what it could be for?

New feature: Original Batsuit skin available to select

Well, they're not wrong if they think it's shit, opinions and all.

What people need to remember (and this is incredibly trite so I don't know why it even needs to be said) but "opinions differ".

Even if the consensus is "x isn't fun", there will always be people who love x.

Wait till you play, the Batmobile may very well be your The order.

Nah. People are saying it's shit. It's definitely not shit. At least not so far.

It works like it should, rewards practice, is used inventively, and looks/sounds amazing.

I honestly think people just suck at using it, because it's super sensitive. But shit? No.

I've pretty much watched every review and Yeah: this game isn't for me; every game that uses the "wait for each enemy and press the button /easy awesome" style combat engine that assassin creed started, ends up being dreadfully dull for my tastes: Shadow of mordor, sleeping dogs and of course /rocksteady's Batman games..

I was hoping there would be some cool one on one boss fights, but what I've heard gives me no hope..plus the batmobile sections being forced with stealth parts no less..That's a shame. hope you all enjoy it though.

This can't be... it's not possible

Batman, is NOT Assassins Creed combat. At all.

Hah! No.

Serious answer, it kinda depends on what kind of games you like. AC is completely different than AA in design, AA was all about small(ish) scale metroidvania gameplay, while AC was made with the 'bigger and better' mentality and focussed on open world stuff.

I vastly prefer Arkham Asylum's approach, but I can understand why people would prefer City.

I don't know, as someone that tends to hate open world games and loves linear games, I found Arkham City much better than Asylum. Asylum had a good combat system with an excelent story altough it ended horrible. But besides that... horrible boss battles, horrible repetitive encounters with titans and other enemies... I really hated those parts.

Arkham City has a good story maybe no as good as the original but it has a much better premise, much better combat and enemies and bosses, and the side stories are mostly amazing and it ends perfectly. Is not your tipical open world game where the world eats the story and you forget about what you're doing, yo don't have that many side stories and they're related to Batman as an iconic character.

I understand why some people loves Asylum over City, but to claim that is better as a fact, I dissagree completly on that statement.

I do find it disappointing that instead of trying to design better boss fights (as that's been one of the biggest criticisms of the series), they seem to have just abandoned traditional boss fights altogether this time around.

As someone that recently played both games in anticipation of Knight and prefers Asylum to City (Though I do consider City to be the better game from an objective standpoint), I was actually kinda surprised to see that if you skip the side missions and focus solely on the story missions, City isn't too far off from Asylum as far as pacing goes. I think pacing is one category where Asylum beats City, but overall, I don't find that the open world is detrimental to the game's design. (And this is coming from someone that usually gets bored of open worlds outside of GTA)

Only played a few hours so far but not understanding the general Batmobile hate to be honest. To drive it feels weighty and meaty, yet still precise and responsive. Just did my first Riddler race and it was a blast.

As for the combat side, I don't know. It feels pretty cool transforming into a tank, strafing around, boosting from side to side out of the enemy cars fire and then unleashing multiple homing rockets once you build up your meter. If a HUGE chunk of the game is Batmobile combat then I can see how it could get a bit tiresome, but assuming it's a new element that's like 5-10% of the game it's fine. My main problem with the Batmobile at the moment is mostly just that brake is the square button. Holding L2 transforms it into a tank. Sorry Rocksteady but I can't instantly unlearn years and years of holding down L2 to brake/reverse just for your game.

Technically it's great. Performs completely solidly and while the art style and city design is unmistakenly Arkham City-esque, everything is dialled up to 11. Streets glisten damp with rain, neon lights flicker off every street corner as you swoop past animated billboards.

I didn't play Origins so even though it does seem pretty similar to City, it doesn't feel old to me given the 4 year gap. I've not played enough to properly comment on the mission design or story but so far so good.

I'm saying The Order was considered poor by many critics, yet there are lots of people who love it.

I'm sure you think something is shit that other people don't.

Opinions.

Lol u must have no skills. This isnt a wait for the enemy to attack then fight game. You gotta be highly agressive or u will die.

Sleeping dogs, shadow of mordor all ripped the combat off from this game and in a worse way.

Question. What's the gameplay ratio between Batmobile and Batman?

You have the wrong idea. You don't stand there and wait for enemies to attack you in these games, you attack them whenever you want while making sure to keep an eye out for the counter prompts. Or you can add more of a challenge and play on hard, which turns off the counter prompts altogether, which is much more satisfying imo.

Honestly, I'm too early on for my reply to mean much. It's been like 50-50 so far but I haven't even done a predator room yet and have collected a grand total of 2 Riddler trophies. In a few hours I'll probably be better placed to comment on how it all stacks up.

I mainly just posted because I think the Batmobile stuff handles really well both in and out of combat and I know that's the element people are most worried about. Unless they force too much on the player, or design really horrible missions around it, I'm not quite getting the review complaints yet.

Arkham City had it's share of issues on PC.

There was a pretty wide spread .exe error with the first game too that was never resolved for many.

Not to mention the shittacular performance when using DX11 even on a newer system. Even Asylum had PhysX problems, like the last two Scarecrow fights severely killing the framerate (the second to last one gave me a framerate in the single digits).

Batman combat is literally the complete opposite of what you just described.

Premium edition pre-ordered on PS4, waiting for pre-download to start. I'm in it for the season I guess which is fine because the next game i'm interested in is Fallout 4.

I'm going to put that Like a Boss song on repeat while I play.

I love Assassin's Creed and it's one of my favorite series.

But it's combat is straight cheeks, booty, ass, and shit. It's an insult to Rocksteady to even have it compared within the same sentence.
