Batman: Arkham Knight - Review Thread

I really struggled with this too. You can change it in the options, mercifully. It's something like battle mode toggle. Instead of holding down L2 to change into battle mode you press R1, and brake goes onto L2. Honestly, whoever makes the official thread should stick that in the first post because people are going to complain over and over :p

I'm surprised at the amount of new moves and options in this. I didn't really follow the game beyond knowing Batmobile was in it. I'm almost feeling kind of overwhelmed at remembering all the moves and what the controls are.

As you mentioned, so far it's been very measured at handing out side quests which is good. I hate having tons tossed at me at once a la Assassin's Creed.

Sefton Hill said the button change is intentional because of the game is played, it will feel more naturally. You just gotta get over all the racing games when L2 is brake.

The pre-order DLC codes that came with my copy aren't being accepted on my PS4, is this the case for anyone else here who also got it early?

Beat Arkham City for the first time today. Going to do the Harley DLC in a bit.

I'm glad I caught up with the story. The reviews are really promising.

Yeah but the thing is, it's really hard to unlearn years and years of instinct that L2 is brake and reverse. Totally messed with my head on the first Riddler race. I've switched the controls so L2 is brake and can't see any disadvantage at all to changing the buttons.

Game is amazing y'all.

I'm sure you think something is shit that other people don't.

Opinions.

I'm sure I do, and I still haven't finished the game yet, but until I hear a legit reason for the Batmobile being a serious blight on this game rather than a genuine plus, (which in my reasoned opinion[/I] it is) I'm going to write off naysayers as either unwilling to embrace new, varying playstyles, or to invest the time into making Batmoblile play work for them, because from what I've played so far, it's super-fun, super-ambitious, and fulfils the criteria of videogame design to the letter, in addition to exploring new ideas.

"I enjoy it, so if someone else doesn't they're not playing it well enough or they're closed minded to change!"

There are plenty of well reasoned arguments why the Batmobile feels like a poor addition in the reviews linked in the OP of this thread.

Don't be that guy.

Amazing and amazing. 1080p, 30fps, incredible models and effects. There isn't a single video out there lying about how good it looks. The best looking PS4 game yet for my money.

I'll be who I want, opinions and all.
I was a little worried when they said it's a modified U3, glad it looks good with a stable FPS, have fun man, I'm jealous! 2 more days...

Hey, it was your fault for reading the review in the first place! That was the shitty line of reasoning given by Dan in the comments section yesterday, anyway.

Oh yeah, that was to me.

I lamented him for spoiling
the Joker having lines in the story
and he simply said it was my fault for reading his review and that if I didn't want to be spoiled, I never should have read a review in the first place.

The nerve on that fucking guy infuriated me beyond belief.

Yeah you were. Fucking Dan Stapleton.

I don't think I have ever regretted reading a review til this one.

Sucks bub. I can say I thank you and your fellow unintentionally spoiled gaf for coming here and ensuring we all know to avoid them. I can really appreciate it as I hate spoilers and it can completely ruin the excitement I have for a game.

Ok so that was the big spoiler then from that review. I don't think he needed to mention that in his review and his reply was needlessly snarky, but I don't think was a big deal to me.
He mentions they were posthumous lines so I didn't come out of it thinking "he just spoiled the Joker comes back to life". Considering how big a role the Joker's played in the last 3 games, I fully expected he would have some role in this game as well (for better or worse, they can't help themselves it seems). It sounds like there are maybe some Joker flashback moments, which sounds pretty cool. I think the only surprise is they got Mark Hamill out of retirement to do the voice work instead of getting someone else, and I imagine that's something others would have appreciated the surprise to have been preserved. And I get that. For me personally though, I was just happy to hear there's a little bit of Joker in this game.

For me, the real kick with that spoiler was exactly that
Hamill came out of retirement and had lines. I expected a flashback sequence or something but I figured it would either be with recycled audio or from Troy Baker, if I would have found out about Hamill's return naturally, I would have flipped shit.

I had mentioned to him that maybe he should remove that bit from the written review, simply because it wasn't necessary to have and it would be a nice surprise, all I got was a snarky, "fuck you, I'm right" response and surprisingly, hate from other commenters saying "Well, I scroll down to the score and skip the review then go to the comments, so YOU spoiled it for ME, asshole!"

That experience was enough for me say fuck it and decide to avoid IGN articles/reviews/comments from now on.

Yeah I agree. It's obvious Rocksteady was trying to keep that as a surprise, and it seems a bit silly for a review to go ahead and reveal it with no warning. It doesn't bug me personally that much as I don't feel it necessarily spoils the story, but I completely understand why others would be annoyed by that.

GMG has Origins for $3.75 (sale plus additional 25% off) but the season pass is still $17.50 and the CCH story DLC $7.50 with that 25%... Almost two years and still no bundle is kind of ridiculous especially since the AA and AC have been in GOTY packages for years now and are also only $3.75 each with everything.

Wish the NVIDIA codes included the pre-order/first run incentives, mainly the Harley story/missions. I might end up buying the season pass when the price on it drops lower.

Lol u must have no skills. This isnt a wait for the enemy to attack then fight game. You gotta be highly agressive or u will die.

Sleeping dogs, shadow of mordor all ripped the combat off from this game and in a worse way.

They did (though is it really ripping off with SoM since they share the same publisher?) but I disagree about it being worse, they worked it in their own ways and made it great for their games while still feeling different to Batman outside the basics and control scheme.

He seems to be quite a notorious cunt and not the first time he's put spoilers in his reviews.

Sounds like the Batmobile was a mistake.

I'll still be getting this game at some point, probably this holiday though. Not because of the Batmobile, but because my backlog is too big and I don't have time to play it anyway.

If you are new to Amazon release date delivery, it's not unusual for them to ship out the game the night before and for it to still get there on time.

I've used them many times and the only time they were late was with the witcher 3 collectors editions because they received them late (got digital version also cause I couldn't wait). That post was just the first U.S. Copy I have seen on here so I was wondering how.

I don't think the batmobile was a mistake. It sounds more like an over emphasis on batmobile combat was the mistake. The reviews I read suggests that its a fun way to get around the city.

I just wanted to drive around Gotham and have it as a peripheral form of travel. All the tank combat and forced segments sounds like they've tried to hard. You don't need any of that to make the batmobile badass.
