Batman: Arkham Knight - Review Thread

Amazing although most reviewers criticized the batmobile but still managed and got good scores.

Can't wait and can't pre-load because I pre-ordered the PC version.

It's not relatively that significant part of the game, gameplay wise, people just cling to it because it's something new that sticks out in the typical Arkham gameplay. It's stretching to generalize it as just the 'batmobile' as well since there's multiple mechanics it covers. Combat, chase, travel, puzzles. It'd be like knocking down the Arkham games from a 9 to a 7 because you specifically didn't like the detective mode or something.

Alright. One last question: and this is a HUGE ONE:

Does batman do the badass walk IN COMBAT MODE like arkham city/asylum? They removed it in origins. In origins he puts his hands up in preparation to fight at every combat encounter. That made him look like a rookie.

I want it how it used to be-- a relaxed posture, and you could slow walk into a crowd of gangsters and just dismantle them. Looked so badass -- like he wasn't even trying.

Anyone? Hopefully I explained myself right.

He walks like a badass, also the combat here is on another level. The amount of new animations he has for counters and combat in general make him feel much more devastating in combat. The best change for me, which probably won't get mentioned in any review, is in the previous games if you got to a point where you knocked enemies on the ground and they were stunned, if you tried to attack them he would pause, and then you would lose your combo chain. Not anymore! Now when you attack he will punch and stomp on people and keep the flow going.
Let me put it this way, the last 3 Games were a Batman game. With the combat in this game however,
It's a GOD DAMNED BATMAN game, if that makes sense.

Can anyone tell me what the difficulty is like compared to Asylum and City?
I normally play games on Normal for the first time but in those two games I felt that Normal was a little too easy. Thanks.

NG+ has no counter prompts, it has always been like this.

No counter symbols in New Game +. AA and AC were the same :)

Oh, I see.

Any difficulty above hard?

And in previous games you had to react faster in hard in order to counter, the time window was shorter, is it the same here?

Hard is the highest difficulty, and it gives you plenty of time to react to counter prompts.

Definitely play on hard. I'm only an hour or two into it and I'm finding it easy.

I did some research and it turns out you do get the pre-order bonuses :).
If you are not sure, open Steam in console mode (add -console to the shortcut), type licenses_for_app 208650, the sub for the Nvidia promotion key is 56900 which is exact the same as the steam version or retail keys which definitely means you get the bonuses.
Thanks for that! Was wondering for ages.

For those of you pre-loading, they just dropped a second 3.5GB patch, version 1.02 on top of the original day one patch which was about the same size.

Edit; just checked my download list original update is not shown but it is installed I am if there is a glitch which causes the update to be downloaded twice, will verify once download is finished.

So preloading is up on consoles+steam now?

Or is it just one or the other? Not home to test out. :(

I'm on pc for this game. Which is awkward for me....

I gt my PS4 copy early through simplygames.com who ship early to avoid delays. This is just a heads up. I can now confirm patch 1.02 is legit, so that's 7GB of patches to download come the 23rd.

This game makes the PS4's UI run at snail speeds. Holding the share button down and pressing square to record the past minute of footage took around 20 seconds. Then when I looked at the clip in my capture gallery it only recorded the last 7 seconds. :/

Sounds like they need another 3.5GB patch to fix this.

How does the season pass work, and is there a window of time available to purchase it?

Also, what are the chances that there will be some final DLC content released in time for the inevitable goty edition?

Hope GMG get's keys a day before at least. Not looking forward to another fiasco like The Witcher 3.

yeah, I haven't bought a game day 1 from GMG in years; I forgot how frustrating it is waiting for them to send keys. :/ Really hoping they send them out Monday afternoon at the latest. 50 GB is going to take forever to download.

Speaking of map, I'd like to ask anyone who has the game if Arkham Knight's map is truly 5 times the size of Arkham City. I just find that hard to believe.

Also, long term what will be the preferred mode of transportation for players who want to 100% speedrun the game. What are the pros and cons of boost gliding vs batmobile travel? I have to assume that once players become more acquainted with Gotham City, that gliding will be more convenient when completing side missions and Riddler challenges.

Give me a few minutes and I'll take a few shots to try give people a scope of the map. It's much larger than I remember City being.

Thanks for doing this! I didn't had any problems with the map size in City, but I did hate the horseshoe shape it had. You couldn't directly go from the east side of the map to the west side, you had to take a detour around wonder tower every time and that was annoying as shit after a couple of hours!

A few question about the combat. Are there any new mechanics apart from the "pick up or kick/punch enemies on the ground" and are there a lot of new animations? I'm going to spend most of my time playing challenge maps so the combat is the most important thing to me and Origins didn't do enough new stuff to keep me interested. It also recycled pretty much all of the animations. Another thing I'm interested in is if the timing feels like Asylum/City or like Origins because something about the flow of combat was off in the latter. I could never quite put my finger on it but I've seen that other people noticed it too. It just felt weird.

No problem. Here you can see the world map with the objective marker (green exclamation point) and my current position (the white pointer at the top), and in the second shot you can see how far that is in-game. It's not the biggest map I've ever seen, but it's more than large enough imo.

And here's a shot of the same part of the map, you can see the clock tower on the left and the chimneys with the red lights that I'm positioned on in the second shot I posted.

Is the PC version even coming out on time? Could have been delayed since the review copies weren't sent and it's not up for pre-load on Steam either. Last minute delay? HOPE NOT!

Hopefully someone with capture card will soon release some HQ PNG screenshtos of PS4 version.

BTW, any impressions from Xbone version? Surely some copies were sold/shipped before release date?

I know this is ridiculously subjective, but does it feel like a living, breathing Gotham?

Can't wait to traverse Wayne Tower

Don't have the game, but it looks way better than the previous games from videos I've seen. There are people driving around, cop chases and just people on the streets.

How would you rate it visually compared to other PS4 games, especially open world?

Definitely one of the better looking ones, especially in motion. All of the neon lighting reflecting in the rain/puddles, and the forks of lightning that come down and light up the entire map looks absolutely beautiful. The IQ of the PS4 version really lets it down, though. It would look so much better with an IQ similar to Infamous: SS.

There's a lot more thugs in the streets, police car chases, thugs talking about current events. I wouldn't say it feels extremely alive or bustling, but it's a definite improvement over past games. It doesn't feel empty at all.

Very disappointed about the IQ, it's 1080P after all, it can't be too bad, if it's the CA i don't mind this effect as much as others, but if it's a lot of jaggies and blurry image that sucks.

Does this have something similar to Arkham City where you can listen to enemy chatter and even tune in to radio stations with some gadget? Forgot what it's called. But I loved that.

I think nearby radio/talking chatter could be head automatically, and then located from where it is coming using detective mode.
