Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water: eShop Exclusive in North America?

They probably don't think it would sell very well as a retail title and don't want to put the resources into it. I'll buy it either way, even if I'd prefer a physical copy.

Agreed. Personally, I believe its a fairly niche title these days, so I don't think it would sell well even with a marketing budget of something like Zelda. With that being said I still hope a physical copy is produced.

thus, the Canada Deals E3 Thread wept, for she who calls herself Maiden of Black Water, faded out of existence in disc form

and so did ohlawd, for he too would have liked the illusive Maiden at hand. With ever the fleeting touch, none may descend in the hell that is the blood forest

But for those who believe in the virtues of DAY ONE, will this stop them? nay, as this form of recourse is better than none at all

If this ends up being true, I'll most likely buy a Japanese Wii U instead of a US one. I've been on the edge over which region console to eventually pick up, and something like this is enough to push me over to one side.

It better not be. I am never hooking up a HD to my Wii U so it would be really annoying if it is.

People blame Nintendo but maybe, just maybe, retailers don't want to stock it because they know that they'll be left with a load of unsold copies because it's an M rated game on the bloody Wii U, but that's just a thought.

To the chagrin of more than a few collectors, Nintendo already has a habit of undershipping on even their most popular items. How much would be too much for something like Fatal Frame?

I really hate buying digital games but I'll do it if I have no option here. It's a miracle that this is even coming out in the West, so I'd rather support stuff like this than get all precious about it not being in the format I want.

The Wii U is basically Nintendo's Dreamcast and I find it to be a very collectible console. Games aren't shipped in huge numbers and the system is selling poorly. When I buy games for Wii U I want to own those games. You don't own anything on the eShop.

The fact that it has been so unsuccessful also leads me to believe that holding onto your digital Wii U titles over the long run won't necessarily be easy. What will happen in ten, fifteen, or twenty years?

There's a lot of great games on the system and most of them are bug free off the disc. It's the last truly collectible system, basically, and a game like this is something I want to own long term. Releasing it digitally on the eShop is akin to putting something up for rent for an undetermined amount of time.

I'm glad that it's receiving a release in Europe and will go ahead and at least pick up that copy.

Supporting the Wii U is damned difficult for me as is and this is just one more stupid hoop to jump through. I have such a love/hate relationship with Nintendo and this system right now. They do so many wonderful things alongside the most boneheaded.

All precious? It's basically about owning the game versus not owning the game. Of all the digital marketplaces out there, the eShop is the one that is most likely to fold up and disappear over the next ten years. If you don't care about holding onto the game then that's fine but for those that do it's a real issue.

The amount of whining in this thread. It's a miracle that this game is even coming out in the west. Can you all act like adults for once? It would be a huge mistake for them to produce physical copies of a game that's already niche and being produced for a flop console.

Then they should let Xseed or GS publish it for them like Operation Rainfall did last gen. Or worse case scenario, release the game in NA as a limited edition so they can make money on low sales.

That's NOA for you. I'm still buying it but fuck you, NOA!!!

Well then you'd be part of the problem, I'm afraid.

Are we really calling "noa failure" and "screw you noa" over this unconfirmed speculation?

You're right, but it seems we're heading into that direction.

Op Rainfall for a physical release of this and DT?

Condering what by the time being Devil's Third looks like it'd be an insult to the other 3 ganes...

Well that's asumming Xseed or GS wants to publish them, do they? And perhaps to make money out of low sales they could end up marking the price.

If the game ends up being a nintendo world store physical exclusive I'll end up having to take my first road trip there or willing to pay a reseller's exorbitant price for a physical copy

What makes you think so?

Last generation already told us differently.
I was able to move every single one of my digital purchase from Wii to Wii U without any issues whatsoever. I wouldn't be able to do anything like this on PS4 nor the Bone. Nintendo even managed to do this without any account system being available on Wii.

What do you think is going to happen when Sony stops selling PS3s?
Microsoft has already shown multiple times that they don't give a fuck. See DLC on the original Xbox, which is literally lost now. And see "PlaysForSure". Well, at least I have to give them points for the "backward compatibility" feature for a few handselected games. Which is not perfect at all, but at least something. Still even if Sony did something like that at some point, I'm sure that not even half of my games would work in the end.

I'm going physical all the time with only a very few exceptions. But if I buy digitally, then it's definitely on a Nintendo console. Because Nintendo has shown that they got that one down.

You don't own anything on the eShop.

You literally do not own anything, when you buy anything in any of those digital shops. Thanks to DRM, that's calling home.
One rare exception: GOG, because there is no DRM included.

As soon as for example Sony closes down their shop, then you get to keep the games until the hardware fails. And then it's gone. That's surely not my definition of ownership.

whats the reason most people here want it retail? collection purposes? resale value? i can understand the 2nd one i guess.

imo this is a game that'll probably get limited prints anyways

1) you can play downloaded games offline
2) Wii U OS gives you the ability to copy your digitals to other drives, allowing for backups
3) or what about 30, 40, or 50 years -- you might be dead! what can nintendo do for you then?!

Will QA for food.
I don't mind. I prefer digital if the cost difference isn't bad. And if this is the only way we're seeing some of the more 'off-beat' localizations, then I'm all for it.

I do prefer physical copies but I can live with digital. I do really hope all the content is kept though and not censored. That actually would greatly disappoint me because it's like buying the LOTR collection and not getting to see all the content not in the theatrical version. Even if I'm not using everything in the game, I would like it to be all there.

Will buy it whatever format in comes out, I'm a consumer whore for Fatal Frame.

That being said, 16 GB with my internet plan and no extra space on my disk rn...

Super niche game. Will sell 100 copies to the hardcore GAF-types, even in a limited print.

I will never understand the demand for physical release when a game like this is pretty much guaranteed to be nothing more than a show of good will to the fans.

The digital age gives us the option to play this game at all. Appreciate it.

Because producing a physical copy that fans can keep in their collection for as long as they want would be a better show of good will.

Digital only means I'll probably just wait for a sale or at the very least, just put it off a couple months with the fall onslaught coming. Still interested..just not at launch.
