God damn, that's what it feels like nowadays.

Yeah, the tide is clearly not comedians like Patton Oswalt going on a massive rant about trigger warnings and PC.

The fact that comedians are making a lot of the same jokes should tell you that it doesn't feel like that nowadays, you're just thinking too much about a small group of critics.

Kill comedy. PC crowd won't allow for it any more.

Interesting, I've had quite a bit of success in comedy by not telling shitty, insensitive jokes. Comedians that can't handle "PC fascists" putting their shticks on blast should probably re-evaluate how funny they actually are, and the kinds of audiences they want as their fans.

Can you post an example of your jokes?

I just don't get why Schumer (and other comedians who come under fire) dignified those complaints with a response, unless it's just for publicity. People are going to complain about everything, and most of those complaints aren't worth addressing.

Some people on GAF sure don't give a crap about other people's feelings when it comes to "comedy". We really need to stop putting offensiveness on a pedestal.

It's the press, and it's bad press. These comedians are sponsored in some tours and their TV shows have commercials.
So founded or unfounded, accusations of that type are something most people don't want to be associated with. You apologize to whoever you wronged for whatever reason and move on.
It's hard to see cases of people with enough clout or care to just ignore it.

They built you to destroy you.

Heh -- I am no fan of the outrage police, and no fan of Schumer's sketch show.

I am amused to see her being thrown to the wolves by the same contingent of people who pushed her so hard as this great, funny, (and most importantly) female voice.

So where is the line drawn. How exactly are we going to do what you propose?

You tell Jerry Seinfeld jokes?

@the OT: Bill Maher had a rant at the end of his program on Friday that involved Schumer's bit. I'm paraphrasing, but basically he said it was making fun of the stereotype that "Latino men are more aggressive when they hit on women - some women love that!", not really acknowledging the whole 'rapey' aspect, which is convenient since Trump is out there calling them actual rapists.

It's all about context, where the joke was said, who said it, what the situation is. You have to consider all of that before you start labeling a comedy bit as racist.

I have no problem with her humor.

Comics just need to realize that jokes that work when the topic is about an individual won't nessecarily work when talking about a group of people. Jokes based on stereotypes aren't clever and pretty low grade comedy.

That and the joke is old and tired. It's been told a billion times before and in better ways.

i always have issue with this sort of statement.

its old and tired to you, but its always new to SOMEONE.

Of course there is always the kid that gets to stay up past 9 for the first time, or the amazonian tribe that views tv for the first time.

That said comedy is above evoling and trying to stay on the edge. Harding working Mexicans jokes are about as new and exciting as Carlos Menica.

Yep, we definitely need laws dictating what is and what is not funny. That'll work out just fine.

If something doesn't get laughs then it doesn't get used. This is especially true of successful comedians. So if people didn't respond to that material then she probably wouldn't come out with it.

Nothing is off limits in comedy, you just need to be funny.

or the adult grown up person who moves to a new country and is just hearing these things for the first time.

since we're throwing out random examples of course :D

Everyone should be so lucky to hear black stereotypes for the first time

Generations from now, kids will be asking "Grandpa, where were you when you first heard that black people yell at the movie theater?" Let the nostalgia begin

there's also universal stuff like husbands being dumb and wives having to pick up after them!

classic!

so much variety! a little something for everyone!

This is bang on the money. Saved for future use.

nah bro, don't. remember, something is bad and loses its effectiveness if it's overused. it becomes bland and lazy! you need to come up with new stuff ALL THE TIME.

Yes because criticizing someone's comedy is exactly the same thing as criminalizing someone's comedy. o_O

People that stick to easy punchlines ,race, mocking the audience, politics (usually) usually aren't funny. She isn't. The joke was a chuckle but eh.

It's like those "subtle" hipster jokers who always have that experience on the train where two thug out guys start talking about some femine TV show, usually golden girls or sex on the city. It's cheap.

Who are you?

Seems pretty simple, just like TV and radio. If you find someone/something offensive, just change the channel. A comic's job is not to cater to everyone and there will be plenty of comics that cater to your taste and sensibility.

As long as the comic is being good natured and not actually making threats or telling others to act dangerously, I really dont care.
