Terrific results for FE If. It takes some weight off the western release to perform which pleases me as a fan of Awakening. Hopefully it becomes a smash hit and continues the rise of the series so that we see it go on.

Also amazing Splatoon hold! THIS is how you launch a new IP. Lets see how far it can go.

Persona Q with the combined casts of Persona and Persona 2 need to happen...

it's never going to happen, isn't? T_T

That would probably be the only game to possibly match the first Persona and P2:Eternal Punishment for me. I'd even put up with how shitty the Japanese Mark is.

anything involving Persona 1 and 2 that isn't a livestream of Atlus staff laughing at people who want more of them isn't happening

It took MK8 a full year to reach a million LTD in Japan. Does that sound like it could be a reasonable possibility for Splatoon?

Yeah, but a remake would probably sell a lot.

Ike's saga became really popular over the years.

If they make a bundle, sure.

If it continues to sell this way, or keep afloat with 5-digit weekly sales, then yes. Otherwise, it may take some time to reach a million within one year. Maybe within 2 years, assuming it will have MK8-like legs.

Dragon Quest X must have a lot more subscribers than Final Fantasy XIV in Japan. Like, A LOT more.

I wonder which one is more profitable. Domestic sales usually make more money for the company.

Awesome for Fire Emblem, better than expected for P4D and Vita!
Nice hold for WiiU/PS4 too.

doubt so. pretty sure most FFXIV subscriber in Japan are on PC instead of PS3/PS4

So why would DQX be more console based when the game is also on PC, some mobiles and 3DS?

because DQX exist on console first, then pc? it's kinda impossible for only less than 50k subscriber getting the expansion if console > pc for FFXIV. Although, considering digital version is much more cheaper (for CE especially)... that might be the reason

It would not surprise me at all if DQX has far more Japanese subscribers than FFXIV. In fact, it would be pretty weird if that's not the case.

FFXIV 2.0:
PS3 - 244k
PS4 - 53k

DQX:
Wii - 633k
WiiU - 72k
3DS - 129k

There's clearly a much higher level of sustained interest for DQX across multiple platforms, than there is for FFXIV. Especially taking into account FFXIV's troubled history.

do these games have cross platform play?

It's true that DQX launched on consoles first but the first platform isn't always the most popular and the 3DS version of DQX(5th version) did over 100K LTD.

I don't see why the bolded is impossible either(not that I think that's the case).

Would this be a fair comparison?

JRPG Spin-off Rhythm games FW:

[3DS] DQ Theatrhythm 76k
[3DS] FF Theatrhythmn 70k
[Vita] P4 DAN 94k

P4D sold really well when you put things in perspective.

FFXIV on the other hand is going to destroy prediction league. I think they underestimated how many people would digital upgrade. Retailers got burned again.

What did Explorers do in relation to expecations?

It had okay results for what appears to be a really low effort game, but it's a pretty low performer for the genre, and given it had the FF brand attached, that's probably extra poor in some ways.

Final Fantasy is not a healthy brand.

Probably said it before but SE's strategy in general with the 3DS seems to be putting in the minimal investment required. World of FF looks much higher budget in comparison(and has Nomura character designs!)

But Nirolak said it was a success!

( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Well there's still time for Mobius to be a success.

Final Fantasy and Mario are dead.
Crazy times.

.. and Squids and Waifus reign supreme.

We don't know expectations, but it didn't have much unsold stocks, it had nice legs and good digital sales. The game sold around 300k units (which is a bit surprising given the state of the franchise right now).

On the other hand the DLC support dried up quick, it's director is now doing Project Setsuna for consoles(PS4) and it's not getting localised despite western trademarks.

I was kidding hahaha

There's an update that released recently, so let's see how that goes.

I think the game's nature as a graphical powerhouse is actually undermining it. Not only is it evidently more content starved than the norm I wouldn't be surprised if the limited number of supported devices as well as battery life concerns were holding it back.

Why are strippers at the U.N. bad when they're great at strip clubs???

True.

There is a market for mobile Final Fantasy games as proven with their lucrative partnership with DeNA, but it seems that SE is targeting the same consumer as their failed attempt with FF-Type 0 mobile.
