Damn good Splatoon, damn good! I need to get that game eventually.

And FE: if looks to be amazing, happy that the series has recovered like this, to think it was close to dying just a couple years ago.

Why are strippers at the U.N. bad when they're great at strip clubs???
Just realized, 45k for FFXIV? o.o

What happened. That is such a poor result all things considered.

It won't actually open near to New Leaf will it? (Not that I know what NL opened at.)

Dunno, I know my friend is eager for it and the new things its added to the formula but for the most part she sees it as a nice intermediate title, so I don't think it will have quite the wide adoption as AC:NL. I think most of the bigger fans will get it for more of AC with some new twists but your more casual ones will be more flippant with their purchases until the new official AC:NX.

All the MMOers are on the WiiU and Wii playing DQX! (Or have become squid.) :p

That's not an unreachable opening for HHD. Probably won't leg out to the same 4m sales though.

Just doing my usual chime in on Splatoon. My GOTY so far and one of my favorite games of the decade. Pleased to see its performance, effectively guaranteeing more squids in the future.

According to Media Create, Fire Emblem: Awakening is just 8.000 units away from reaching the half-million mark. If we include the 3DS eShop sales which are unknown, it must have already surpassed Fire Emblem: Holy War Story (498.000) to become the second best-selling entry in the Fire Emblem series.

Why would they want to sell more wii u?

Profit on the hardware/software for the coming year before the NX drops? The WiiU may not be out of the picture until the end of 2016 or maybe even early 2017, the 3DS is most certainly getting replaced by end of 2016.

With the introduction of their new "rewards program" and the upcoming account changes, getting more users into the environment now, even if on the dead WiiU, and tying them into potential mobile and NX returns, is a worthwhile move for Nintendo (and one they should pursue). The NX unifying with the overall system/OS means that even if people jump in on the WiiU, they can start getting benefits/reasons to stick around for the NX before it even launches or when it does launches they'll have incentive to possibly pick it up.

Moreover, they benefit a lot from growing the Splatoon IP and getting it into as many hands as possible to continue the WoM cycle of propagation and sales. When you think about it, Splatoon on its own has managed to effectively freeze the gap between the WiiU and the PS4, and kept its baseline in 5-digits. A single game out of nowhere.

I'd have to wonder how much it would potentially matter if the WiiU actually managed to stay ahead of the PS4 until after the launch of the NX (handheld, at least, as Splatoon has now extended the time-till-convergence by several weeks at least), and Nintendo made development of games between the two systems decently painless at some top level API method of engine support, they could leverage the consumer base on the WiiU along with the NX to get the "PS4/Vita" treatment early on with a larger install base to target with easy ports back and forth. Of course, this would also depend on how much money Sony continues to throw around or other incentives, vs. whatever Nintendo offers.

I really want Wii U to last the entire next year, but I think it's unlikely to happen. Wii U hardware sales will see a huge drop in 2016, imo. Of course, not in the case Nintendo comes with another game out of nowhere and drops the bomb again.

These upcoming months will be crucial for Wii U regarding "legs" factor, and will determine if 2016 will be an OK-ish last year or a forgettable last year of the console.

All their years have been forgettable past launch, even when finally having a competent amount of exclusives for the device.

What's important is that it seems the company has managed a way to compensate and actually got better monetizing their user base. Also for what i can see there's a pretty solid bridge of software stablished for 3DS until the potential 2016 release of the handheld successor. So a Wii U support could totally work with about 6 releases for 2016, of which we have some cuarrently announced:

-Fire Emblem/Shin Megami crossover.
-Project Treasure.
-Pokken console port. (maybe)
-Amiibo driven game???
-Game "X" or HD remaster
-Zelda U

Then they can potentially continue to monetize Mario KArt (battle mode pending), Smash Bros (upcoming characters already in the works), Splatoon and MArio Maker (level/thematic packs).

So if Nintendo wants to, they could take their time until a potential 2017 release for the home offering of their dedicated hardware. And it wouldn't be that different from other Wii U years (2014 been the outliner). They also have the tangential IP explotation to keep their brands on the public eye. SO i think with this various factors in consideration is a possibility.

Square Enix is going IN. Now we wait to see if all the support is going to pay off.

[3DS] Animal Crossing: New Leaf - 144pt*
[3DS] Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer - 101pt + 81pt = 182pt

[PSV] Taiko no Tatsujin: V Version - 41pt
Animal Crossing HHD to sell 5 million confirmed?

And why no Taiko PSV x 3DS comparison?

Postponing the PS3 meltdown.

PS3 is guaranteed irregardless unless it was 3DS exclusive, the install base of everything else is too anemic. And as it continues, the PS3 will continue to shoot the legs out from under the PS4, lol.

So we've got some Japanese to French to English translation. The only 'certainties' I can see are no XB1, no iOS, no Android and no Vita. I wouldn't rule out any other active platform. Irregardless I'll be purchasing whatever platform it indeed comes to.

SE support for Vita is increasing and it's getting DQH2. Wouldn't rule it out.

while i agree on that, i still feel that this will not be on ps3. ffxv, viir and kingdom hearts 3 and some others are not on ps3. dqh was released with marketing skewed heavily towards ps4 and i wouldn't be surprised if they do that with dqh 2 as well. the only reason i think dqh is on ps3 as well is because it is a spinoff and they might as well try to make as much money as possible. the majority of people aren't going to run out and buy a new console for a spinoff dq but a mainline dq could do that and sony will most likely get behind them in full force to help the ps4 in japan and most likely worldwide imo

Yes but you don't want to announce it in the west as a PS4 exclusive (because it will be if it's localized) and then go back to Japan "lol jk, it's just another ps3 port".

Millions of people are also not going to go out to buy a console for DQXI. For all intents and purposes, DQ is prolific enough that it can be had in multiple forms to sate a desire to play it (and the DQVIII 3DS port makes even less sense now). People haven't thrown out their PS3s or run out to buy PS4s over FFXV en masse. The core gamers will be there (most are already there) but the vast majority (the casual gamer) are on mobile or on the 3DS, and they're obviously not enticed by a 400$ product.

The install base is anemic. Its limping along at a Squidified-WiiU rate (and that's a cultural phenomenon exception with a non-prolific property). I've been of the opinion that SE is ready to fall on its sword, and this is just another step in the same direction so it wouldn't surprise me. But just at E3... the current situation is so unfavorable in the home space that they are depending on literal promises that may as well have been written on the back of a restaurant napkin.

They've released PS4-only in the west with multiple titles.

You asked why he didn't mention the platform(s) but he was in France when he said that.

Oh I didn't mean him for that, I meant "them" as in the company. They've been coy with details for a while now but seem to have made up their mind.
