GTA V PC Performance Thread

I was so pissed off i decided to use an old cracked copy against my legit copy. Cracked copy is v350 i believe. Exact same settings and game save, i drive the exact same route at similar speeds, there was only a difference of around 1 second in total log time because i hit another car in the old patch one.

As you can see its HORRENDOUS!

Whoa.

Do you think this is due to the recent patches, or is it because there's no DRM on the cracked copy and thus no Social Club? Because the only way to fix single player stuttering after Ill Gotten Gains 1 was to force SC into offline mode. I haven't played since IGG2 arrived so I'm not sure if forcing offline mode still works but its clear that these two patches fucked the game something fierce. Rockstar "looking into reports" doesn't ease my mind since they caused this by changing something (probably to counter hackers online).

Its not because of the DRM as i had absolutely no trouble with the exact same route with the old patch. I know this for a FACT because i lost my game progress about a month back, and everytime i booted GTA V in the last few days/week i drove around the exact same area before being sad and quitting the game realizing i need to do the submarine mission again =/ I had absolutely no issues roaming aimlessly those times.

If someone can provide me the old patch files, i can run it offline and test again, but i guarantee its not the issue.

Just to add, my data used a 100ms logging interval to get somewhat more accurate frametime results.

Oh and old patch is running off a HDD, new patch on an Intel SSD.

Just curious, what tool did you use to collect the data for these graphs?

Jeez. Thanks for going to the trouble of testing this out, its interesting to see. I hope Rockstar gets their shit together because I don't like the idea of them ruining the single player in an effort to save GTA:O The Business Model by combating modders/hackers.

I installed the game on my Windows 10 preview build (10166) and I thought it was the reason for the stuttering, but guess not. They better patch this soon.

Is the only difference between patch version numbers the exe? Meaning if I used an older cracked exe and replaced the current exe will it run the version of the cracked exe? Or do other files need changing as well?

There is an update.rpf file and the main game exe.

Im not 100% sure though.

Man I picked a bad time to jump back into this game. I can recall running this game 99% locked at 60 with almost everything cranked up to high-ultra, but now the framerate and especially frame pacing are nearly unplayable at times.

And of course none of this nonsense actually does anything, as I still ran into a cheater online last night.

FIX IT ROCKSTAR!

Man this game refuses to work for me now. I last played it before this new update and now it won't run. it crashes when I launch the game. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling, uninstalling RSC, running with admin, run in win8 compatibility(all three .exe files) and nothing. I tried deleting gtav.exe and running the launcher so it can redownload the files and update but the update keeps failing to install.

edit: NVM now suddenly the update installed.

Is there any word on a new patch?

Is there ever any words from R*? I usually dont care, but this time its frustrating.
Their support page has acknowledged the fps issue.

I've figured out how to run build 372.2 (v1.27) in offline mode, let me know if anyone would like to do the same. This is with legit files too.

Here's what R* support sent me
Thank you for contacting Rockstar Support.

Unfortunately, you are not alone in your issue. Many players are experiencing lowered FPS after the new update and we are aware of the situation. Currently, there is no solution to this, but we have been hard at work on a resolution. For more details and any update on our progress into this problem, please view and subscribe to our Knowledge Base article: https://support.rockstargames.com/h...-and-GTA-Online-on-PC-after-Title-Update-1-28

Please accept our apologies for the inconvenience this has caused you.

i dont understand i still average 180fps with everything maxed cept the obvious 2x msaa with DSR for aliasing....my biggest gripe comes with the lack of care about hackers...did they abandon their game?

Wow, it's astonishing. The game is just completely unplayable now. The stuttering and hitching is giving me a headache. It's just not enjoyable anymore.

How could R* screw up so badly?

The game really does slack in quality now. Turned down some settings and it still runs like shit.

Rockstar tried to patch the game to curb hacking, but all it's done is further damage the integrity of the game and their image. They don't know what the fuck they're doing, which is crazy since they seem to have not even cared about the idea of hackers in GTA V in the version, which is more vulnerable (I guess).

Waiting for another patch... a rollback patch, preferably.

Its gotten worse. Every server I played today had hackers. I was shooting cops and a car full of players drove buy and started dumping money on me. This made it so my character stopped shooting and I kept getting an error because I was getting too much money at once. They dumped $5 million on me before they drove off and I could resume playing.

I am guessing they are taking their time with the patch to also figure out how to get rid of the hackers. Isn't Denuvo supposed to prevent this shit, what the hell?

PC performance degrading doesn't surprise me since the last gen console version has slowly gotten worse over the last year and a half. Granted the reasons for last gen performance degrading and PC would be different.

GTA V doesn't use Denuvo.

Heads up lads: 91mb patch dropped that supposedly fixed the stuttering. I won't be able to test it until later but I'm reading impressions on the Steam forums.

Aren't RSC and - depending on where you bought it - Steam DRM enough? Lol

I don't think Denuvo acts as an anti-cheat solution if that's what you're after.
Denuvo is an anti-tamperring exe wrapper, and clearly RSC isn't enough if lobbies are full of hackers.

Minigun and Ammunation are fixed, the game's "normal performance" is still the same for me. Only getting around 35-50FPS at max settings where I'd previously get around 80-90.

The Distance Scaling slider and Extended Distance Scaling seem to have much more of an effect than they did before the IGG Part 2 patch. The difference between both sliders max and both sliders empty is around 20FPS.

I see. I can't remember what my setting was at...I'll have to do some testing later tonight.

I have distance scaling at 50-60%. Don't see a point to max it out. Same thing with shadow distance scaling. I prefer 95% smooth 60fps than something between 55-60 all the time.

I see. I can't remember what my setting was at...I'll have to do some testing later tonight.

I tested a bit more and it does seem to make a massive difference.

I maxed out every setting besides 4xMSAA instead of 8x, even had grass turned up to Ultra. With Distance Scaling at half and Extended Distance Scaling off, I get around 57-63FPS regardless of where I am. With both bars full, it's 35-40. I've found a sweet spot with the normal slider at half and the second empty, so I think I'll keep it that way.

Performance is closer to pre-Ill Gotten Gains 2. No more 10fps drops during chases, stuttering is mostly gone. Still get some microstutter during wanted levels though, which didn't happen to me before Ill Gotten Gains 2.

What about the -scOfflineOnly command to improve any remaining stuttering? That helped post-IGG1 but was made pointless after IGG2 borked the game. Basically I'm wondering if any stuttering is still caused by Social Club and can be eliminated by forcing offline mode.

EDIT: after some testing tonight it looks like performance is improved for me as well. Rock solid 60fps in single player with no stuttering from what I could tell. I didn't use the -scOfflineOnly command either.

Used the command, didn't seem to make any difference. Still get some recurring drops to 57fps during chases, which doesn't sound significant, but the stutter it produces is pretty noticeable.

Hearing a lot of people say the game is fixed for them. Hoping I can get the patch downloaded soon and test it for myself

edit: is there any way to check if I have the update downloaded? my download history is blank on steam and of course the update history link brings me to a useless blog page.

Stutter is still there during intense action with the police. Normal driving and walking seem fine. R* really fucked up with the IGG patch.

Not as bad as before the last update but still slight stutters from time to time.
Game was super smooth before the updates.

FX8350 + R9-290x

New 91mb patch seems to have fixed my microstutter, back to smooth 4k gameplay!

Only took a little over a month to fix, lol.

Back to online, like the new cars, hate all the hackers.

Performance for me is greatly improved, but not 100% hitch free like it was a month or two ago. Minigun no longer causes horrible framerate drops at least. Also the Series A Trash mission no longer runs like ass (I think it was the morning fog that was causing the problem).

Seems to be running fine for me now. I really wish that motion blur could completely be disabled if you have post fx on ultra, but what can you do.

Does anyone know if the anisotropic filtering bug was ever fixed? I still have it off in-game and set to 16x in the Nvidia control panel. Is this still needed?
