Is MGSV online dead?

I don't think it's going to flop, but I understand that people are too worried about this. The situation between Konami and Kojima isn't helping either.

Also, "global concern" makes up for a great tag lol

I don't think they've ever said that? They said it will launch alongside MGSV since it was announced.

I'm fairly certain. Then again, I might have just dreamt it. I once dreamt that Python Selkan was a part of a Konami MCN. That was weird.

Aaaaanyway. I don't think it's dead.

Don't let Konami know you're interested.

There's no heavy marketing because the budget is being used to better the game.

I like it this way; show bits of the game at game conventions, some new tidbits/announcements on twitter here and there, magazine articles and a few sprinkled ads.

Builds steady suspense and you aren't bombarded by wannabe movie tier trailers.

As for the online portion of the game, There was probably a beta but I'm 80% sure that they've been adding stuff to the game every-other day ("normal" games go gold around this time) and it just slipped their minds. Heck you never know, might get one on the 18th or 25th before the full game launches.

The Last of Us mp was barely talked about it and it turned out to have pay to win mechanics[many would argue at least] so they could be hiding something for MGS5 too.

Or maybe the online won't be quite ready at launch.
This is not remotely close to being true. Ignoring the fact that the weapons are actually balanced, they didn't add dlc until MONTHS after the game was released.

I'm sure mp will be fine OP. The series is known for its single player mode. That's most likely why there's zero promos for online yet.

People saying it's still there need to remember this isn't 2005 anymore. An online game can't just be finished and then move on, it needs support.

Was Metal Gear Solid IV's multiplayer actually any good? I think I only played it for a couple of minutes.

Like the campaign itself, I kept meaning to go back to it.

I think I'm just going to jump into V and play IV later. I'll borrow V from the library, and want to get it before anyone scuffs or dirties the disc.

It was very, very good.

Team Sneaking has to be the one of the best gaming experiences ever.

One person playing as Snake while two teams wage war was unbelievably intense.

Any part of a game that the publisher doesn't seem to care about advertising should illicit concern.

Konami should be trying to use MGO3 to ship copies, and the fact that they aren't is concerning. I have a feeling it's mostly because MGO probably won't ship with MGSV.

They probably don't have a team that can support it now that kojipro is gone.

Why?, the base game is doing a fine enough job of that already.

Nobody that isn't interested in Phantom Pain is just going to pull a 180 because Konami dangles some multiplayer around, that's just silly.

The meat and bread of the game is the single-player and base building/invading.
I always saw MGO as more of a social "lets all screw around may the better man/team win" kind of deal.

A month from launch and still no details, no beta. Did they forgot to market it?

A successful online game needs regular patching and balancing, and a steady stream of contents. It could be konami it prints money cow. But KP is disbanding soon, so who is the team supporting Vonline?
It what now?

It had upsides and downsides. Eventually I quit after running into one too many players who would run in circles and then inexplicably get a headshot on you before you could do anything. I still don't know what was up with that.

Hmm

It seemed okay, but I didn't know if it ever became too popular. It was talked about a lot on gaming TV shows because it was new to the series.

My interest in Metal Gear has waned. I loved 1 and 3, and enjoyed 2 quite a bit, but trying to go back and play Peace Walker bored me.

I'm only mildly excited about V, so I won't be buying it. Hopefully the library's copies will come in in good time, though, and nobody else will hold it.

You can always convince more people, and attempting to do that via showing more of how Mother Base works vs. showing multiplayer seems like a strange choice.

Konami LA is not getting dissolved.
You sure, i thought i read when Kojipro had their contracts changed from full time employes to independent contractors, with their contracts ending in December, it included Koji L.A.

They've already confirmed that MGO will be in the game. Do we really need to be coddled with every feature fully documented on YouTube 1 month before release? Just wait. Stop with all the doom mongering.

Konami can update the online mode with bug fixes and additional content. Even without patches, the game's wide scope of terrain and gameplay possibilities makes the prospect of multiplayer incredibly exciting. There's really no need for the doom and gloom.

Only thing confirmed that is that Kojima changed to a contractor.
Kojipro LA was renamed at that time to konami LA.

Look through the OP of this post for more information http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1013350

and they are still hiring?

For some reason, I didn't think MGO was launching at the same time as the base game, but Googling doesn't bring anything up, so fuck knows.

lol wow

i canceled my CE today as i felt it just wasnt worth it and as kinda an F U to konami

That's just silly. It's Kojima's final MGS game, his Magnum Opus. He and his team put a ton of work into it. Boycott Konami after MGS if you wan't, but doing that doesn't help (Or really hurt) anyone.

Ah, well it was annoying and plagued every single one of those tournament event things, and eventually killed my interest in MGO. I hope MGSV has better countermeasures for that kind of thing.

The FOX Engine was designed with online play in mind, apparently, so I doubt we'll see things like that.

Even if its not dead now it will be in 6 months or less. There is nothing to suggest that any online Metal Gear has any legs.

It was great, not as good as the first MGO from MGS3, but it was still great. That might be nostalgia talking though.

It was terrible at launch. I never went back after the first two weeks. Hope this doesn't have the same issues.
