They are such fun movies. Really looking forward to seeing how it all ends. It's amazing how the first film, which was pretty good-not-great, started this all.

Yup will be there day 1

Guilty pleasure at its finest

Also try to not stay near me and my friends when we catch these in the theatre, we usually go hysterical most of the time

Not even hating on the Anderson/Jovovich power team... more power to em....

...But I will be pleased to see this brand be rebooted.

The thing is.. RE movies are a staple of the box office at this point. They make bank. Inevitably, it will be up for a reboot. And it just might mean that someone takes the material more seriously.

Like Adam West or Schumacher Batman eventually setting the stage for the Nolanverse... silly adaptions that do well could eventually pave the way for legitimate adaptions.

These films are exactly the same as the games in terms of tone. Incredibly camp and with painfully stiff dialogue. It's the most stylistically accurate adaptation of RE you could get.

A more serious adaptation would be interesting but it wouldn't be much like the games.

I have often argued the same thing. You aren't exactly blowing my mind. Most RE games are dumb in tone.

But let's not act like there isn't more mature, smart potential that has been hinted at occasionally in the RE brand, that is completely not even being attempted in the Anderson movies.

The tone in REmake is a notch above most RE games and certainly RE movies. Let's start there.

I enjoyed 1 and 2, I don't think I saw 3 (Or 4? Is retribution 4 or 5?) but I thought Retribution was pretty trash so I'm not sure if I'm down to go watch another one of these, the set up seems really cool but I'm skeptical if they can pull it off or not.

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.

Retribution is 5. Afterlife (4) is the one in the prison. 3 is the one with shitloads of zombie birds and the world turning into a desert and Jean Grey.

There's a wire fu scene in... I don't even know which one. Milla wakes up in some fake Tokyo or something and she finds a gun and a chain and proceeds to have the absolute worst fight scene I've ever seen in my life. She just hovers, basically flies the whole time, and there is absolutely no effort expended in trying to disguise the fact that she wobbles and wavers in her wire harness and obviously isn't remotely comfortable up there. It's some next-level bad film making, and it's honestly all I can think of when I look back on these movies. I'm pretty sure I've seen them all, but it always comes back to that one fight scene :p

I actually want to meet the person who could tell tell you exactly which RE movie X happens in, and what the chronology is, etc.

I'm not really sure that person exists. Not even Milla or Paul W.S.

I'm pretty sure I could do this. I also remember that the zombie from the Afterlife opening was in that fight scene.

Paul W.S. Anderson back to direct a script he wrote

Script? Wrote?

I found the first 2 movies to be dumb fun, the rest...I couldn't even make to the end in the last 2. I can barely remember anything from those movies except being awful and not in a fun way.

RE1: Science gone wrong, zombies in my mansion
RE2: Zombie in my city, Jill Boobies
RE3: The world has ended, everything is desert...
RE4: Except not, there are survivors in building wanting to go to a ship called Arcadia
RE5: The ship is fake, Alice is captured, meet Ada, Leon. And oh, it's the end of the world again.

There is virtually no fucking mansion in t he first movie. It's a shitty underground laboratory.

1st movie is an absolute piece of shit Syfy movie. Not saying the sequels aren't but they're much more entertaining and not so boring as the first piece of shit film.

in my opinion, the first one was really good and entertaining, but the sequels were piece of all kinds of shit.

too sad the RE movies ended up like this :(

Resident Evil
Apocalypse
Extinction
Afterlife
Retribution

Didn't even need to look it up. Me and two other friends used to watch these movies ironically, and we would marathon through the previous movies whenever a new one came out. I know way more about these movies then I would care to admit.

Can we get a different director after this? One that doesn't mary sue his wife?

My dad likes these, but I absolutely cannot stand them past the second one. Once they stopped even trying to resemble the games, and just started wedging in noticeable monsters and characters, it turned into explosions and holy shit alice is teh OC best with all the powahs.

Really looking forward to this.

It's going to be the last film with Anderson and Jovovich I believe, but since each film has been more successful than the last I suspect the studio will either keep it going with someone else or we'll get a reboot in a few years.

Still can't decide if my favourite so far was Retribution or Apocalypse though.

Which number is Final Chapter? Is this the 8th movie?
6th.

The Resident Evil movies are going to be a billion dollar franchise after this.

What on earth

Have you played a Resident Evil game? They're hardly Shakespeare.

The goofy over the top approach Paul WS Anderson took was the best long term decision. I enjoyed the last film just because of Barry.

Apocalypse is still my favorite RE film. Alice running down a building?!?! RE 3 Jill!

The first movie was incredibly boring. The other three at least are fun to watch. Stupid fun though. I really gotta see how this ends. Just out of obligation.

Follows the exact same stupid logic as the games too:
"stand still and shoot"
Pln5Qux.gif

down to the exact same pose as the game characters.

This is sadly like majority of the fifth movie, people just shooting each other from cover back and forth without any real action. Fifth movie had such lazy action

Just maratoned all the RE movies because of this thread. I think the best was the second one simply because of Mike Eps. The last one was so so bad. It's like they took everything that made the others decent and dropped all of it. Like where the hell did Jill come from all of a sudden? The franchise COMPLETELY forgot about her until now. And what happened to the lil' girl from the second film and Aly Larter and K-Mart? They were mentioned in passing in the last film and that's it. Ugh. Anywho, I'm somewhat excited for The Final Chapter.

The action in these movies is really bad though. It's like watching Kamen Rider Dragon Knight: far too much slo motion and CGI. Also, why bring back so many people in Retribution and not do anything meaningful with em?

Wait, so in third movie they clearly established that the world was a wasteland now....and then that gets dropped the next movie? Why?

She was only missing for one movie. She was in Afterlife (the one with prison and ship) in the mid-credit scene. She already had her RE5 look and was working for Umbrella there. Since I haven't seen Retribution dunno if it was ever explained what happened to her between Apocalypse and Afterlife.

Anyhow, I still don't understand how are those films so popular. They are bad horror movies, bad action movies (if you try to translate scenes from a game cut-by-cut and they look even more fake then they looked in the game, you know there's something wrong with your movie) and the only thing it got from games is a character (look and name) here, a monster (look and name - those "burrowing zombies" from Afterlife 😵) there. Even the story doesn't make any sense with each film's story contradicting what the previous one established. Can the overall camp and low-budget feel really support the whole franchise for so long?

The novelisation of Extinction explains what Jill was up to during the events of the film.
She basically headed off on her own for reasons and eventually found a group of survivors, but had to help them kill some bandits so they'd have a safe haven and settles down to live there.
It's been years since I read it though.

The book also explains how the virus got out of Raccoon City (or at least implies heavily)
