Game Informer September cover - Destiny: The Taken King [Up: All Details]

So is TTK inclusive of content from the other previously released DLC for Destiny? Or would those expansions still need to be purchased separately?

If you buy the retail taken king or the 60 dollar downloadable version you will get all the previous dlc.

This. Been playing since November, but all of this just makes me feel like Year 1 players were guinea pigs until Bungie got their shit together.

Sorry, but I couldn't disagree more. After putting more than a thousand hours into Year One, I feel I've gotten far more than my money's worth out of the experience.

Three maxed level characters, one of each class, every exotic in the game, all those moments anticipating Nightfall drops, and nearly 200 raid completions with my friends and the memories of our adventures... it's been an absolutely incredible year, and I'm very much looking forward to where our journey takes us next.

Thank. You. This is what I'm thinking every time someone complains about being a ginea pig for Bungie in Year One. It's like the additions in TDB and HoW didn't happen or something.

I may just start a new character and play from the beginning just to see what's new. Crazy.

I'm actually doing to do that, and I have a level 34 of each class right now. My Warlock is going to take one for the team so I can see what it's like going 1-40 under the new leveling systems, with new gear and quest lines.

Same, I scrapped my warlock before HoW because I wanted a strangers rifle again. But after I got him to 20, I barely touched him.

Guess my warlock will just perpetually be destroyed and reborn.

Almost every change seems to address this epiphany the people at Bungie have had that most people have lives and can't play destiny 2500-3000 hours (sounds ridiculous but I see people like that constantly) and is making it easier to get what you need in a reasonable time.

Similarly, the matchmaking changes should help with the ridiculous e-penis measuring contests like the ones in trials/banner where the only people that played it anymore were full teams that play hundreds of games each weekend.

Yup I'm going to on one of my alt accounts since I have all 3 of mine used on my main account. Going to be fun.

It is? I've played Destiny and have no idea what that means =/

The original picture didn't have the hunter, he's on the backside of the cover. Bad joke :p

Same, I'll save all the exotics and some of the gear to help speed it up, but for the most part I want to do the story from scratch with a fresh character for the lore/experience of it.

A lot of those changes and additions sound really great, although it's things that should have been there from the beginning. It's probably not enough for me to jump back in, but good for those who still play.

I'm guessing that's a yes? Since mag scans aren't allowed and someone tried to post a pic of it. I just thought everyone was using the digital app.

Same, I scrapped my warlock before HoW because I wanted a strangers rifle again.

As a helpful tip for anyone who may have scrapped their Strangers Rifle, you only need run The Black Garden (the final story mission) again and stay through the cutscene to get another.

This may come in particularly handy with one of the new exotics that's been mentioned in today's news.

*Fingers crossed*

I'm sorry but why is everyone jumping on the hype train? Because I sure as hell don't get it. They've legit gone out and said all of the shit you've grinded towards for a good year is going to be valueless come the 15th. They've offered only the vaguest of suggestions as to what they're going to be including that's going to be worth the 40$ they're asking. After the previous 30$ season pass bullshit they sold you on hype alone how are a lot of you guys still this gullible? I'm glad they're making long overdue systems improvements but it's utterly mind-boggling to me that it took them a year and a 40$ expansion to do so. In fact I consider these changes an insult to people currently playing because they handwaved these issues away for such a long time, and now that they're trying to sell you shit all of a sudden they're actual issues? WTF? I'm sorry but I'm still not seeing 40$ worth of content. All I've heard is, one new zone, 8 multiplayer maps, 4 strikes, and one raid. Oh and a new voice actor who's going to be working with the exact same shitty ass material the previous voice actor was working with. Not to mention how fucked the pricing is. I can literally buy all of the content I already own for 5€ on top of the taken king stuff. That 40$ price tag is far too steep for someone who already owns the season pass, and the game.

This is totally spot on. But I recently bought an Xbox One and I'm thinking I'd like to use this as an opportunity to transition to the other console (where more people I know play) without having to deal with the headaches I've put up with on PS4 that have made me a) want to play less and 2) not want to upgrade because I already spent $90 on the base game and first two expansions.

If this news, and the upcoming release has you this upset... perhaps Destiny's just not for you?

I didn't find anything, does anyone know if they mentioned how they will handle characters that are maxed out now and if they will move over at that level or go back to 20 and level up from there by way of XP instead of light?
Just curious cause I have a maxed out character now and am wondering if they will put me in as 34 or put me back to 20, or somehow calculate my level by how much XP i've accrued over the course of my playing.

They haven't, but word is that, much like leading up to the House of Wolves, Bungie plans to host Twitch streams answering our questions over the coming weeks.

Your first point isn't true. All exotics and rep we gained so far will carry over and legendary weapons will still be just as useful in PvP because damage is normalized.

I may do that too. Haven't decided on a class though.

I have a lvl 27/28 hunter. Think I'll just stick with him, but I'm confused about where I'll be once I get the game this september? Will people still be playing the beginning missions again?

I got to level 24+ and stopped playing the game. Gonna preorder the console bundle.

Same here. How hard is it going to be for me to pick up and jump back in? Should I start now?
If you start now you could probably get past 30 in a few days by doing vanguard rep and marks/crucible marks. Much much much easier than vanilla destiny. If you wait until the taken King you'll have to experience up. Gear is faster to get to 30 right now.

I don't get why you keep bringing up money though. FF14 is huge now, but if you were there since day one paying that monthly fee, you've spent a lot of money on it over the years. No is gullible, simply because you don't see value in something doesn't means others view are off.

People have played Destiny over 1000 hours already, for them, that's more than the $150-$200 they put towards the game over the years.

I don't have to do Raids anymore to get past 30? Hmmm..might jump in this weekend, was planning on getting a new PS4 to play with my wife though so I dunno.

First tragedy, then farce.
It would be nice if they added some Ghost lines into the first two DLC expansions.

It's really jarring that he never spoke in any of those missions.

I'm level 33 now, and most of these changes sound great. It's a bit dumb that all purple gear can be max level gear. It's like they destroyed the end game progression in order to fix the RNG for leveling and in the process removed the economy.

I hope matchmaking for end game content is coming. I've gotten used to going to websites, but its annoying.

You do not have to do raids anymore. Getting to 34 is a bit different but I does not require you to use RNG to get that armor either. To get the materials necessary to get your 34 armor you'll need to do the "baby raid" of that expansion armor core would be your best bet. Someone else can explain that process I'm at work =P.

Coming off of one the best E3s ever, they have back to back cover stories on a downloadable game and an expansion back. Publishers must not be throwing as much at them as they used to.

You'll be level 27/28, and continue from there using the new progression systems, which sound like will be XP based all the way to 40.

I think people are jumping on the hype train because some people like things a lot and other people don't. You don't have to get it for other people to be excited.

Also why does the cover look like a fantasy game?

I mean, it looks very good, but I think I missed something. I thought this was generally more like sci-fi with some fantasy elements instead of the other way aesthetically.

This was my immediate first thought as well. It felt very reminiscent to Dragons Dogma: Dark Arisen.

Still TKK is sounding good. I haven't bought Destiny so I may jump for this, does it include everything ala GOTY edition?

Yeah there's a collectors edition that includes everything plus some goodies for 80 and there's a regular version for 60 bucks that just includes vanilla and expansions. The latter is retail only.

Bungies PR and management of the game sucks.

But the cost of the game with this expansion brings it in line with a two year MMO sub. The way i see it, if TTK delivers quality content and a healthy refresh to the old stuff, along with those long overdue QoL updates, then i think itll be justified. Im not jumping on the train either though. The cars, wheels and tracks may be upgraded, but Bungie still has yet to prove they can drive it better this time

A revamped quest format adds story context and a natural progression path to old and new content. A newly recorded actor plays the Ghost from the beginning of the story to its conclusion.

Am I reading this incorrectly, or are they updating the base game to have more of a story?

If they are...OH MY GOSH.

Oh, I appreciate that, but I meant people I know, really. I'm in a clan of people who I don't know and aren't on consistently. I have two friends with a PS4, but neither play Destiny. The reason I want to pick it up for the xbox one is that my little brother and several coworkers play, so I have people I know personally to hop on with.

Man, actually reading that it does sound like they are changing the quests from the base game.

If that's true I'm totally restating to a new character, probably will anyways just to hear all the new Ghost lines

Very excited for this. Funny because when I first played the Destiny beta I wasn't into it at all, but once you start getting better loot and find a good crew to play with it's a really great experience.

It's absolutely unbelievable that, if I own the base game digitally, I can't upgrade to TTK for no less than 80 fucking dollars.

•the Cryptarch more reliably provides rewards that match the engrams you give him.
What does this mean? How is this even a thing? I thought they removed the Cryptarch having a chance to give you more common items from rarer engrams ages ago.

Was he giving away chest pieces from arm engrams or the like and I just never noticed?
