Yep, and probably the same again on PS4. Selling 10k copies is probably enough to break even. EDIT: Before any marketing I mean.

And I'd struggle to call it a remaster. It seems a lot more like a reimagining. It's obviously going to play a lot different to the original.
About 20 split between Media Molecule and Tarsier and not all full-time at Mm at least because they have roles working on Dreams.

If remasters aren't preventing new games, what is preventing new games? Because Sony's lineup of exclusives for 2015 is practically non-existent.
Which games are you excluding?

i love that sony is thinking about the players that came in from 360 ,
But i owned a ps3 with about 200+ games.

It would be super swell if i could play new games :(
Why can't you?

Uh....i don't know where this narrative comes from, but its very scary to think people just mentally erase everything they don't consider to be a 'real game' exclusive or not.

Game taste however is not a good reason for "no games" arguments for any console. A japanese game enthusiast would probably consider the xbone a very unappealing console does not mean they can argue is has no games.

Yeah. I love Japanese games even more than i love western games(which i also love), so XB1's output for me personally is completely negated by what i see offered for PS4.

But if your not into Japanese games, that doesn't mean they don't exist for those who feel they are worth the time. Its completely ridiculousness.

It is perfectly fine to not like a console because the games it does have do not appeal to you. The "no games" "argument" is not fine and anyone that tries to use that argument seriously are fucking fanboy morons.

I should probably wait until next generation to play current generation games then. Either that or I buy these games cheap because I see no incentive to pay $79.99 for a new game when the narrative is on the wall. Almost feels like one should just skip this generation for the most part and catch up on games next generation.

Best wishes.

I can't think of much I'd want from Sony's first-party studios that we haven't already received (or isn't already announced).

Maybe a Resistance Trilogy, but even that... meh.

Now third-party is where it's at.

I'd take Skyrim, GTA IV, Red Dead Redemption, and MGS 4. That's about all I want after the Uncharted Trilogy comes out.

What games are you thinking of when you say Sony's line up for the rest of the year is good? I'm curious.

Bethesda should really do a Fallout or Elderscrolls collection on PS4 so playstation owners can finally play those games fully as long as they want.

Well i'm referring to PS4's output, not specifically first party, but what i'm anticipating are

Tales of Zestiria
Country Without Nights
Until Dawn
Uncharted Collection
Nitroplus BlasterZ
Disgaea 5
Persona 5
Fairy Fencer F
Dragon Quest Heroes

As you can see my year is packed to the gills with games that are not coming out for XB1, in addition to the mutliplatform games that are. I literally don't know how i'm gonna pay for all this shit.

In addition to that, 2015 before August i've bought Toukiden, Bloodborne, USF4, Deception 4. Saying no exclusives came out is just wrong.

Man... I read gaf/gaming sites everyday and watch a number of different gaming related YouTube channels and the only game that pops out is Uncharted. I know what Dagon Quest is and didn't even realize one of them was coming out. Until dawn is the game that plays basically like a choose your own adventure I think? And I've heard of persona but just pictures alone make it look really unappealing.

Personally I'm talking about Sony themselves (as a publisher, not about PS4 as a platform). I'm having with them the same problem I had with Microsoft at the end of the 360's life cycle.

Sony has just as much AAA games announced as MS. if they appeal to you or not is a different matter.

You have good taste in games. Personally I'd add Everybody's Gone to the Rapture, Firewatch, Teraway, Tommorow Children and [hopefully] No Man's Sky. Eitherway no rational person can say PS4 lacks games this year.

1) PS3 games of 2012-2013
2) PS Vita games of 2012-2014
3) closure of a few dev studios that probably could've gotten a game out by 2015 (Studio Liverpool, Zipper etc.)
4) Game development takes time. Even with PS4's easier arcitechture, doing what Guerilla does with Horizon and what Naughty Dog does with Uncharted 4 & taking full advantage of PS4's hardware & its quirks is not an easy task in any way. And games like Dreams probably take a lot of iteration to create, it's not as easy as Nintendo making yet another New Super Mario Bros. game that takes the entire concept & style as it was in the last 7 New Super Mario games and relies on tried & true gameplay conventions.

The two games were fully supported by Sony.

Galak-Z is coming to PC soon, and we don't know about N++. But the relationship with smaller dev studios has fundamentally changed for the better -- That it does not have Sony's logo is immaterial to the final product. 10 years ago, these would have been Sony-published.

That they are not is a good thing. Like I said, my point was to simply highlight how pointless the distinction is. The approach to game publishing and funding has changed.

I thought the translated name was "Land of No Night"? Anyway, P5, DQH, ToZ, and Land of No Night are all on my list for games I want right-quick.

That's the problem. A lot of these games just fly over people's heads because of the brand recognition with western audiences is so low.

All i can usually say is that you should really try to....grow your borders a little more, and just pick up something one day outside of what you usually play. I can tell you many of the games you would not even think about could become your favorite.

Persona is an epic RPG consisting of many hours, its a great series.
Tales is also a pretty good RPG series for example, and it has a ton of content.

I never said anything about Xbone's games, I'm saying Sony's output has been scarce so far and whether or not remasters are the cause. Y2Kev was probably right and remasters are a consequence (not the cause) of the bigger problem which is the status of AAA gaming in general compared to 2006.

Thats why indie games are important. Some indie devs are reaching AAA games in terms of presentation and content anyway.

Tearaway is more than just a remaster. It's not quite remake, but it's not just a remaster either. It's a remakester.

We should come up with a word for this. I'm gonna suggest re-imagister (it is a remake, remaster, and a re-imagining... if that makes any sense at all).

I'm guessing it isn't the first and won't be the last.

Are there any other examples of games that people can think of from the past?

There is no way that if TTC or NMS were shown to gamers during the early years of the PS3/360/Wii ect they would think these games were indie.

edit: sorry for the double post.

See? Even i forgot about games that are coming out this year for PS4(almost all of those being first party or published). That just proves the point right there.

It is translated differently depending on who is doing the translation, it means the same basic thing. But we've had to wait until the official english title shows up before settling on one.

Also *fistbump* at those mentioned titles.

I don't really see how you can compare the two situations in any way. Sony has a lot of games coming in the next 2 years.

Horizon
UC4
Dreams
R&C
Until Dawn
Alienation
Drawn to Death
Wattam
Fat Princess Adventures
Tearaway Unfolded
Gravity Rush 2
The Tomorrow Children
What Remains of Edith Finch
Everybody's Golf 7
Everybody's Gone to the Rapture
Rime
Shadow of the Beast
Gran Turismo 7
Street Fighter V
RIGS
The Last Guardian
DriveClub Season 2

+ they'll of course announce plenty of new games, the listed above are just the games we know about at the moment (and I'm probably missing a few). There will very likely be a lot more indie level affairs and then we'll probably get several big new games announced (& some even released in 2 years) from the likes of Sucker Punch, Santa Monica, Quantic Dreams and the like.

That's so far better than from how shitty MS handled 360's end.

People still complain about Remasters and HD Collections? These don't stop new games from being made and in a Industry when normally games are made and forgotten by publishers, preserving old games or in these case HD releasing them on newer consoles seems like a win win.

Must every thread about a console devolve into lists?

The PS4 has games. Plain and simple. You may find them disappointing or unappealing, but they exist. The end.

Does "this year" only consist of the last 4 months of it? This "preseason" bullocks is very irritating.

If we're talking about the whole year, Sony will have more than MS had the whole year.
I'm assuming he means for the rest of the year?

Going along those AAA lines Uncharted Collection which is a remaster is among the few I would call AAA. Tearaway Unfolded which can be considered along the lines of a remaster seems more mid tier.

Not saying anything about the quality of these games just whether the AAA description really applies to this and the rest of Sony's end of year lineup.
