Guardians of the galaxy, is this movie really good ?

Surface of Me

I'm not an NPC. And neither are we.
I dont understand the love it gets, it's standard Marvel fluff, but in space. I really have no other way of describing it, it isn't near as interesting or suspenseful as the Winter Soldier.

I think sadly the plot is pretty generic, especially towards the end

But the characters in this film still made it a fun ride. Way better ensemble movie than either avengers movie tbh

I thought it was pretty overrated honestly.

I don't regret watching it but I doubt I'll ever watch it again.

It's fun, though I honestly like it a little less every time I watch it as not all of the jokes hold up to multiple viewings.

So rather than just going into the film and judging it on its own merits, you're going to collect a bunch of opinions that will color your expectations and probably your final opinion?

It's easier to just watch the damn thing. It isn't long.

I know what you mean, but :
I'm not collecting a bunch of opinions to color my expectation since I already have a bunch of friend with strong opinions about this movie.
I just really like to have a wider spectrum of opinions (and so far I'm already happy about that), especially on this movie!

It's good for the following reasons:

- Well done big budget film. Looks very nice. Good production quality.
- Amazing soundtrack
- Very funny but also lots of action. An enjoyable mix
- You (at least most people) don't know the characters. There aren't any pre-conceived notions of how they should look/act/etc. In other words, it's a fresh story and cast of characters to take in.
- Unconventional team of underdogs are always a fun time.

Yeah, I liked it, but on second watch, I saw how it really was just the Marvel Formula.

It's a good movie, and even better if you're following the MCU movies in order.

It's a solid movie. I really don't like Marvel hero movies and DC movies and all the nuances about the differences between the two (I don't care, don't explain them to me), but Guardian of the Galaxies gave me a face full of Chris Pratt and a whole bunch of laughs.

Barely holds up well. The comedy is bad. The action is bad. The villain is bad. The dialogue was bad. The story is hardly interesting.

A good soundtrack doesn't suddenly become to make an average movie good.

All that bad and it ends up average somehow. It's a bad movie it's ok to have that opinion. You are not alone.

I agree about the action scenes, I thought they were awful but I never see people bring it up.

The scene with the green chick fighting the blue chick is just a series of super fast cuts with neither of them ever connecting.

Rotten tomatoes and close friends aren't enough for you to determine whether or not you want to spend a couple of hours watching GotG and form your own opinion?

Friggin' millennials.

It's one of those movies you can be in the mood to watch whenever forever.

It is in the above elite club with other whenever forever movies like Captain Ron, Big Trouble in Little China, Grandmas Boy, etc

Well, yeah. Thing is, I didn't completely hate it the first time. I thought it was okay. Second time bored me to tears and now it's basically unwatchable for me. Cue the "no fun allowed" shit posts that make no sense.

The only scene I wouldn't mind seeing again at some point is the final scene with baby Groot dancing. The rest of the movie was trash, and the "I am Groot" shit was so cringeworthy it hurts to think about.

Definitely one of those movies where "the music is so good" blinds everyone to how bad the movie itself was.

For sure, and it wasn't just that one fight either. Every "fight" or action scene was completely forgettable. Sometimes I try to remember what happened in this movie and I come up with nothing.

A great atmosphere can go a long way in a film and even though the overall story was a bit all over the place the combination of characters, chemistry, sense of mischievousness and 'dat soundtrack' make it a solid Good+ film.

But there's only one opinion that actually matters...

Not a fan of super hero movies or Marvel movies, really, but I liked it. It was fun.

I didn't particularly like the casting of Chris Pratt, though. Dude has no charisma, and I like the movie despite him instead of because of him.

The characters and their interactions will make or break the movie for you. There's a whole lot of nothing going on plot-wise

Visuals are beautiful

Action is nonexistent

Bad guy sucks, with all evil characters being severely underutilized

If you like "Marvel humor" then you'll have a lot to like here. If you don't....gauge your expectations accordingly

Please do not let me serve on a jury. I am actually a crazy person.
I've said it once and I've said it again: if I was 10 when I saw this, it would've been what Star Wars is to me now.

This.
I literally walked out of the theathre saying "Hollywood sci-fi hasn't seen anything like this since A New Hope".

It was my favorite movie of last year, but I'm a sucker for mainstream blockbuster films and movies focused around character interactions.

Just got done watching it and loved every second of it. I put off watching it for ages because I thought it looked tacky and cheesy as hell, and I don't usually enjoy Marvel/superhero movies. I was wrong to.

Currygan

at last, for christ's sake
it's certainly a better than average superhero movie, which, speaking in broader terms, isn't saying much

I enjoy most of the Marvel movies, and found GOTG to be very entertaining. I enjoyed Winter Soldier more that year, but Guardians brought a lot to the table by bringing that cosmic goodness. I also still can't believe they made a great financially successful movie based on the property. I enjoyed the team a lot in stuff like Annihilation, but I never would have dreamed they would receive a great movie.

Most interesting Marvel movie, universe and character-wise. It had a lot of fun parts, too. Terrible action scenes though; it feels like a TV show compared to Age of Ultron.

It's a good, not great movie. I think the enthusiasm for it is inflated by how starved people have been for a quality "space adventure". My main gripe is the humor not landing as strong as I was hoping it to.

That being said, I can't wait for the sequel.

Dude, just watch. It's my favorite of all the MCU movies. Great combination of action, comedy and 70's music.

Well, if people could remember them they'd talk about them. I don't actually remember the action scenes in Guardians at all.

How hard is it to remember things? Apparently very difficult. Off the top of my head I can think of a few (maybe all?) of the action scenes even though I only saw it once a year ago.

Overall I didn't like the action and thought it was the weakest part of the film (and more often than not, the weakest part of most Marvel films). The jokes and moments surrounding those scenes were always better than the actual fights. I would say it was below the average quality of the action in the movies following The Avengers.

Anyway, you have the prison escape, which was better for the preparation dialogue and pay off. There's the fight against Ronan's forces, split between a poorly shot space ship fight that was hard to read and Drax being an utterly useless piece of shit against Ronan himself - biggest letdown of the movie, Drax is nothing more than a loud-mouthed clown, far ways off from a Thanos-killer. There's the Nova air fights which were alright, visually impressive. The Kree who name I forget finally got the show off his arrow, which wasn't a fight, but a pretty cool moment nevertheless. Gamora actually has the only really competent hand to hand fight scene in the movie against her sister, which was funny because people said she didn't do anything. What the fuck did Drax do? The rest of the guys fought the mooks, which was mainly played for laughs.

Overall, it is a pretty funny movie, with a very interesting theme to it. I'd rank it one of the best Marvel movies in spite of it's lack of good action.

P.S. Thor 2 is not a bad movie.

Probably the closest we have come to a Cowboy Bebopian science-fantasy movie yet.

It's not bad, just mediocre - which means it ranks as one of the best Marvel movies so far.
