Rare Replay |OT| Jetpacks and Googly Eyes, Here We Come

Which 4 notes are missing for some in BK?

Can be in Mad Monster Mansion, Rusty Bucket Bay or Click Clock Wood. The Bottle puzzles taking place in those levels don't use video but rather actual gameplay. Since Banjo picks 4 notes in those puzzles (and unlike the original notes won't reset if you enter the level again) if you do those puzzles before getting the notes in the game proper, it'll count as you already having picked them...without actually adding them to your score.

Not when I'm in the engine room, lol. The second jiggy
two switches
....I have no idea how to reach it. I can't even jump over the first fan...-_-

Yeah I had that problem. You definitely aren't getting through those fans right now. Perhaps find away to get to the other side of that glass.

You never stop with these puns, do you? :p

Whenever the opportunity presents itself one should always use a pun :)

I already found the
switch to slow down the fans
but I'm still getting hit, lol.

I really hope they patch in the option to reverse the right stick XY camera for the N64 games. It made sense to me with the yellow buttons way back when but I can't stop 15 years of muscle memory with sticks. And since the non-Xbox Live N64 titles are being emulated would it kill them to throw in a 16x9 option like every PC emulator ever?

Besides all this I'm obsessed with stamps.

That's....amazing.
Is Banjo-Tooie as good as BK? Never played it and it's definitely the next game I'm going to play.

I just started it for the first time last night. I'm on the second world and I can say the game is much bigger than the first. I'm really enjoying it but I'm still having trouble accepting the fact that you can't always get every jiggy in the world before moving on. Sometimes you have to come back later.

No :(
It seems the same but you will quickly realize the much bigger levels only make matters worse.

Well that's worrisome.

12 year old me thought Banjo-Kazooie was better than Tootie. I beat both but I remember being put off my Tooie's item collecting, parts were overly complicated and it lost its platforming soul trying to do too much. Conker solved this though by becoming less of a platformer. However, the first game on RR I booted was Banjo Tooie.

I've got 95% of all of the survivors and IDUs in Blast Corps according to the milestones, but the stats for all of the individual main levels are at 100%. Is there an unlockable level I need to do or something? Never played the game before (it's awesome!).

Jet Force has a built in widescreen option that existed on the original N64.

However these games did widesceen anamorphically, and a lot of times forcing widescreen would cause weird rendering issues since the object spawn/despawn and a whole bunch of other stuff was optimized around 4:3.

All done on Blast Corps. After clearing all the levels and starting the time attack stuff I was only 3 medals short of all golds so that only took a couple of minutes, and after that getting the platinum time on Simian Acres was way easier than I remember. Time to replay Banjo Kazooie I think, its up there with Blast Corps as my favourite Rare N64 title (I personally prefer BK to Tooie).

So.. I'm having buyers remorse a little bit :( bought an xbox just for this and the reality of how much I've spent has sunk in. Not sure if I regret the purchase so much but if I could go back in time I definitely wouldn't buy it just yet. I'm not interested in any other games on the console and I have enough games to last me a lifetime.

The fact that the controllers sticks get so dirty after 5 minutes and one of the dpads being dodgy doesn't help with the guilt either :( I'm stuck in two minds on what to do.

Don't eat KFC and cheetos when playing.
Take back the dodgy controller and get another or refund depending on how much local multiplayer you play.

That's....amazing.

Tooie kinda sucks. Banjo was a bit simple and easy at times even compared to mario64 but tooie tried to do too much. The gameplay isn't as tight or smart as the first and ends up a chore a lot of the time. Another big complaint is that the camera was brought in closer and angled towards the ground to increase framerate but it feels way too restrictive.

I don't even eat stuff like that, and always stop playing while eating. It's the xbox controllers the way the sticks are built dirt gets stuck very easily compared to other controllers and literally when I hardly play. Other controllers only get this dirty after years of play and without wiping or cleaning them at all. Was this really not tested?

I've dug a fair way into the collection now after a few good evenings' play, tacking the games in release order and having a great time with them. My history with Rare really starts with the N64 games, so these are mostly new to me so far. I've fully cleared the Spectrum titles (with all milestones and snapshots done) and did the same with Slalom last night. The last snapshot of R.C. Pro-Am was certainly not at all easy and has taken me *a lot* of attempts, but finally I've got it done with perhaps a second to spare - that's a great feeling to complete it!

I'm now at "Enthusiast V" level - on to Cobra Triangle!

Even though I've already beaten Banjo-Kazooie and Tooie in their previous Xbox 360 releases, that was a good while ago so I think I'll be replaying both when I get up to them. I also never did get that far into Nuts & Bolts and Trouble in Paradise when I had an Xbox 360, so am glad to have another excuse to play them properly. ALl in all, I've very much looking forward to it!

I think it's time for Banjo-Kart (or Rare kart) on Xbox One.
Similar to Diddy Kong Racing (boats, planes, karts). 16 players online. That would be so cool. Rare is the only developer who could make such a game with the same quality as Mario Kart.

Don't mention Sega Allstars Racing....it was crap :p (yeah, hyperbole)

I think I'm going to go ahead and give Viva Pinata a shot. I don't know if it'll be for me or not but can't hurt to try it.

So, you've never played it before? It's amazing! The beginning is slow though (well...like in all strategy games).

So I've just put on Rare Replay and it's hit me with a 6gig update, and it seems to be for 9 360 games and a general game patch, does this increase the performance then? Can't seem to see anything about it..?

Ok I've just realised that it downloads the full 360 games, so they are not on the disc then...I guess it's how the BC is working.

lol, well rightfully so -- if you purchased the system solely for this game -- $380? Yeeesh.
This collection is good but in no way is it a system seller.
And I'm not sure about your dirty controller issue.. I mean, it acquires dust like every other object in my living room. Mine handle fine - 11 months old.

There's three bonus stages IIRC

Not sure what your talking about. I've had mine since launch and they don't attract dirt or get stuck at all.

I wouldn't call it a system seller but it's definitely my game of the year so far. And I've played Witcher 3 and Bloodborne right before Rare Replay.

I think it is better than BK.

I love that I can play as Mumbo in it, and being able to explore bigger worlds.

Yeah, I'm hoping they revive The Fast and the Furriest or Sabreman Stampede.

Maybe you need to share a picture to show how dirty your controller is. I've had mine since launch and its fine. You get the standard dust around the stick shaft due to plastic rubbing but its no different than any other controller.
Outside of poor quality rubber on the ps4 sticks all my console controllers are holding up and some dust aside are clean.

I'm almost done with Tooie (collected everything save for the SnS2 item for finishing every boss in replay in under 15 mins... fuck that), just gotta beat the final boss now. I've been thinking about it and the game really feels like the intentional polar opposite to Kazooie.

Where BK was bright and happy, BT is more dark and dreary (though still cheerful in it's presentation, I think it's way funnier than BK too). BK had small, compact, and individual worlds, while BT has a massive, seemingly neverending and fully connected world to explore. BK is short and mostly pretty easy, BT is long, complex, even obtuse at times, and it is not afraid to kick you in the nuts from time to time.
Canary Mary!!!!!!
BK's progression is very straightforward, whereas BT is more like a Metroidvania in it's approach, making you go back to older levels after learning new things to complete everything in the world. Everything about Tooie just feels like taking the basics of Banjo and flipping them all on their heads. It's rare when you see a sequel that goes put of it's way to buck nearly every trend of the original. I think it's great and that it complements the original really nicely, though I still prefer the first game between the two.

Nice write-up. I JUST got all achievements for BK (stupid jigsaw 7) and am contemplating diving into Tooie. Never played it myself.

Edit: i loved the compact worlds of BK so am dreading the idea of playing these massive landscapes in Tooie.
I should mention that every world has 5 warp pads (except the last world with only two, but it has a large hub area) so I never got tired of moving across the lands for such a long time. Warps help speed up world traversal a lot. Though it's still kind of easy to get lost.

This may be considered blasphemous but I honestly think Tooie might be best played with a guide by your side. At the very least you should probably know exactly what you can and can't get on your first visits to each world (only the last two worlds can be done 100% on a first visit). Don't be ashamed to look up what you need to do next in the game.

So I need the Jetpac Refuelled multiplayer achievement for getting 500,000 points over Xbox Live. Nobody's online, anyone else want to grind it with me?

Yes! after watching the 'previously unseen' featuring the fast and the furriest I would love a Rare kart game
