You're right, no one is stopping it from being released but that doesn't mean a company might wanna avoid the whole issue altogether on a game that may not even sell well overseas.

I don't play DOA but how is she clearly underage?
I was about to rally against an "adjusted" version of DOAX3 until you posted this. Winter clothes > summer clothes all day every day in the cute department.
And maybe "adjusted" means that the girls will finally have proper asses, which would be a nice change of pace given that Japan doesn't understand the concept of a nice rump.

And I think that is a good point as well; if they do make an adjusted version for the NA/EU versions that fix longstanding issues in the DOAX series (male characters joining the roster, optional 'censored' mode, options for less revealing costumes) then the game will be all the better for it.
But they likely don't want to do that, so that is why they have to 'consider' making those fixes/adjustments to the game for the NA/EU versions.
If anything, they might just put English subs in the JP version and say "If you want the game, import it" to avoid issues all together :l.

I have dealt with their really strange pr statements for years, there is nothing that they have not done in doax and doax2 that would be more explicit than this. This is all clever half wording to make people message them so they can get the Western part ready quicker.

That sounds really cute, add skiing and snowball fights and we have ourselves a game.
If they improved the photo mode I'd seriously consider buying this. You could get some gorgeous shots outside winter cabins with mountains in the back, and winter clothes have tons of cool options, whereas swimsuits are pretty much all 90% the same. (That 90% being skin...)

There wasn't a character in DOA that looked 13 before. Now there is. If you don't see where that's a legitimately trepidatious line in a game that exists largely for bikini ogling, I don't know what to tell you.

This is entirely to do with Team Ninja Marketing bullshit. soft-core porn games are finding their success on steam, of all places. Senran Kagura is a profitable enterprise. Do people in this thread legitimately think that people grumbling about female representation have ANY influence on the release of a game like this? Do you know how much influence they have? Basically none, compounded by the fact that they wouldn't be the audience for this game anyway. As noted by other posters, equally "scandalous" stuff like Senran Kagura and Oneechanbara get out the door with nary a peep, and the only games that have censorship issues are the ones that would get denied localization for ESRB ratings. If a company thinks it can make a profit on something, it will sell it, outrage be damned.
Tecmo Koei is showing trepidation releasing these games because they have, historically, been terribly received. Xtreme 2 and Paradise have fairly poor Metacritic rankings, and I can't believe (Paradise especially) they sold particularly well. Obviously they're not going to waste money if they perceive the territory not wanting it, and they have the sales data to prove it.
The only thing the modern day scene might treat differently is that the reviews would probably be even more scathing than they already were.

And I'm not sure you can say DoA is 'mainstream'. It's pretty niche. Average person on the street wouldn't know it at all, most casual gamers would never have heard of it. The people I know who play Fifa have certainly never heard of it. It exists for two reasons - solid fighting engine + sex appeal. Seems like a good recipe for a niche fighter to me.

If Tecmo is scared about how its perceived by gamers and critics, just actually make the mini games and activities really fun to do. if a game is fun it doesnt matter how lewd the content is, just look at Bayonetta and Dragons Crown. 2 games that got flack before release but now are revered.

I actually changed by post but I'll answer this question.
I don't actually have a problem with DoA itself. The Xtreme series is what bothers me. At least the fighting games have an appeal beyond the sex which is honestly the easy way out for mass market appeal. Xtreme is almost like a parody, the kind of video game that Fox would cook up to tell parents how video games are corrupting our children. The games have literally nothing too them besides the big boobed girls dancing around in skimpy outfits for the player's pleasure.

Even then I would be okay with Xtreme 3 if it took a step in the right direction and included ... gasp... male DoA characters!
