Destiny: The Taken King - Year 2 Reveal - Stream (Summary in OP)

Damn, this all seems really, really good.

Yeah it was pretty impressive. Like I was saying above, for players who haven't played Destiny since it first launched, if they jump back in for TTK they are going to be in for a world of shock at how different the game is. Improved 100 fold over the vanilla endless grind and trolling by Bungie that was happening

It's actually so stupid that they blatantly acknowledge that people - including themselves - made mistakes when creating their characters and yet can't even add in a character editing tool. All the content is already there. Absolutely ridiculous.

And they could have changed the tower a little bit. Improvements are nice but content wise I'm not seeing the value.

Hmmm... so if I understand this correct, if you find an exotic weapon, your character can go to the kiosk and buy a copy of the weapon.

I guess you'll still need to level up the weapon?

So if you want all three characters to always have a Gjallarhorn in their inventory, you need to level up three of them.

And if you want to make it more powerful with infusion, you do it on each of the copies?

Or you can only have one and still pass it around like you do today with most exotics.

All exotic weapons now will have their best perk unlocked, which would be wolf-pack rounds for the Gjallarhorn. You will need to upgrade the rest of the perks manually, and for Year Two Exotics, you'll need to infuse them manually. Gjallarhorn's not making it into Year Two, and will probably be very weak with the new content, unfortunately (when comparing attack ratings).

We need a thread on what the hell to do with all of our existing exotic armor and weapons, legendary armor and weapons, shards, materials, marks, commendations, etc. prior to the Taken King--or nothing and keep them.
I am so confused.

Agreed. I am thinking of making one later tonight.

What was the point in nerfing the Gjallarhorn if they were just going to abandon it anyway?

Curious as to whether or not Year 1-only exotics will drop at all after TTK (I still need a fourth horseman :( ), or if we're losing them forever. Are the Year 2 Exotics going to be revamps or replacements?

Also... having some of the boxes permanently blacked out on the Y1 Exotic recipes is going to bother me to no end.

I need this right now. RIGHT NOW.

The faction change is such a relief. The current system is terrible and this is the right way to go about fixing it.

So should I get back into my level 24 character now, or just wait for this to launch first?

You could get the gear to be 30+ very quickly, and if you wait you will have to level that difference the new way with XP.

Guess it is really your call, there will be tons of new quests and bounties from the looks of it - with very low level requirements - so you should be able to level quickly either way.

This is a totally different game. A lot of my friends are so burned out from playing Destiny for 100s of hours. I don't have anywhere near that much playtime, but it seems like everything they did is out the window. I'm glad I waited.

Year 2's can be fused to be kept on par.

I... think you misread. My concern was whether Y2's exotics will completely replace Y1's in drops (so we won't get any more drops of the Gjallarhorn for example), or if the exotics from Y1 that aren't being carried over will still be obtainable.

Does that allow you to pull weapons off one character and onto another? And if so, why not put it into the actual game?

Yes you can transfer weapons and armor from one character to each other, into the vault, take things from the vault and put it in your inventory instantly and more.

I dont like this year 1 to year 2 exotic upgrade. Its like Xur exotic upgrade nonsense back when TDB dropped but now its less tedious.

Man that Suros year 2....more like SUROSLORD.

Then it should be put into the game. 90% of Destiny players likely do not know this.

oh good question. My thoughts are they will drop for first timers, but will stop progressing past a certain point, forcing you to look for Y2's

IIR, Tyson said "for now" or something to that effect. I'm guessing they're still re-working some of the old exotics with new talents and will drop them later.

All in all a pretty huge set of updates. A big shift toward dedicated loot streams via quests and Armsday, and the RNG streams have more intelligence (removing shaders already earned from loot tables so you can complete collections). RNG is surely going to continue to RNG, but all in all I'm quite pleased.

I really like the increased armor talent nodes. Much more flexibility to do specialized builds.

Then it should be put into the game. 90% of Destiny players likely do not know this.

I suspect the vast majority do. You can also do it on bungie.net, which is what I use instead of the app. The feature had a big launch, I think you just missed it.

Hmm, alright. Do I have to do raids? That was always an issue as I didn't really have anyone to do them with. Partly why I stopped.

I imagine that the year 1 exotics would drop on year 1 content? So if you are doing VoG, Crota, or PoE. Speculation of course.

What good would it do you to have it in the actual game? Same with matchmaking. It's obviously better to make players leave the game to do it. By letting you do it in the game, you'd be destroying the community built around making those apps for Android and iOS.

/s

But yeah, it should be in the game. Looks like it isn't, so I'll be keeping my phone nearby at all times still.

I honestly didn't expect this level of changes until Destiny 2.

Which makes me wonder if Destiny 2 isn't a lot further off than they originally planned. The original contract said a new game every 2 years with one huge expansion like TTK in between that. But I can't help but wonder if the amount of work and change they've done to Destiny hasn't altered plans. I wonder if we will get a "Year 3" with Destiny 1 now.

Since the OP hasn't updated, can you guys do a recap of what was announced please?

more vault space
better mission and bounties setup, can cash in without visiting the tower
keep track of marked bounties using your ghost while playing to show them on the hud
exotics you have found (and maybe deleted over time) are now blueprints you can pull from at any time for a replacement item.
All equips now give stats and bonuses, including new ghost skins.

There's more but that's some of the bigger things.

I think you can get to level 31 or 32 regular. You'll need to do high level PoE to et coins for gear or do trials which in either case you'll need a team

That was all pretty much great news. I'm actually looking forward to playing again after watching that.

My only concern/question is... will the 2 existing Raids drop Y2 weapons/armor, so we have an excuse (other than ONLY for fun) to go back and play them?

And did anyone catch if the Vex Mythoclast got into Y2?

Without some of these changes a lot of players would get bored, it's been a big enough fight for the last 11 months as it is (including dlc changes and daily/weekly lockouts for non dlc owners, and so on)

These are nice, needed LITTLE changes that should have zero impact on what the main team at Bungie is doing with their work on the real sequel.

What's staggering is how long it took for those changes and/or that it was so pathetic day 1 that these changes are staggering to you.

No.

Its staggering no matter how you look at it regardless of what kind of pre conceived notions you want to carry into the observations.

Destiny in 1 year is an entirely different game than it was at launch. That is a crazy accomplishment

God damn it... I'm going to re buy this game aren't I? I want to love again!

*cue "What is love"*

Between this, MGSV, Witcher NG+, and Fallout, RIP my already limited free time.

Maybe next year or in Destiny 2 they'll finally realize there's a lot of people like me who don't do the raids (and so play the game less) because there's no matchmaking. Right now they're still basically blocking off a good chunk of the content to a lot of people because of it.

I bet they change it by this time next year. It seems like they're fixing pretty much everything else. People will play TTK with all it's new changes and then numbers will start dropping at some point next year and they'll decide to open that shit up. Maybe make a newb raid or something at the very least and add mm to that.

Geez the hyperbole. We're still doing missions on the same 4 planets. A lot of the minutiae is changing, but the major stuff isn't. Unless of course they're hiding all new planets. All new player classes. And an all new matchmaking/LFG system. I'm not downplaying what they've done here, but come on, it's not a brand new game.

Wait, so any exotic we get apart from the suros and bad juju may or may not become obsolete in a month's time? That's some schroedinger bullshit right there

It would make sense. It'd otherwise be obsolete for Destiny Veterans.

They only added one new area to explore. Destiny 2 is coming in 2016. Making changes to existing content does not make it new.

I think I know what you mean, but at the same time, the 335 hours I have spent playing Destiny were all hours I enjoyed. So it wasn't really a waste. I am looking forward to my net 335 hours of playtime once TTK comes out and beyond.

I hope they keep dropping. I couldn't get Gjallerhorn last weekend, but I still really want it just to have.
