Destiny: The Taken King - Year 2 Reveal - Stream (Summary in OP)

It won't really be diverse if everyone uses the same old weapons. Most people stick with what they are comfortable with. I know for the most part I did that. Half the exotics I have I never upgraded fully.

This forces you to try out the new ones and evolve.

People use what's best. If they can't dream up something better than the ghorn in this new expansion, that's their issue. It shouldn't be phased out because of that.

Only disappointment I've heard so far is that only SOME exotics are getting upgraded. What's the fucking point of having all these unique guns if you're gonna tell players "oops, now they suck".

It is to force you to look for and use the new exotics. There is literally double the amount now.

There are newer better versions of the gun you probably love. Just find it.

I can't believe this.

This is almost comical. If I was coming into Destiny now, this would all be great. Amazing even. But since I've played a bunch in year 1, all their improvements have nuked everything I have up to this point.

God dammit I wish I had just waited a year.

May need to wait until year ten cause this is going to keep happening. Only way to freshen up game is to rotate stock in and out. Infusion language sets the ground work be restricting it to weapon year release.

Speaking for myself only obviously, I don't mind it one bit. I want to use new gear. I want to grind for it. I want to buy it. I want to lust after it.

Thorn, Vex, Necro all don't carry over. As well as ghorn obviously.

What a fucking joke. I've been saying for months that the best weapons were being phased out or completely discarded because the new stuff just won't be able to compete. We will never see perks like wolfpack rounds or mark of the devourer again.

If that's the case then I'll hang on to my 40 bux.

Still no way to easily look for groups in-game for Raids. I haven't been able to do a single raid because of how much of a hassle it is to set up a group to do them.

Don't know why everyone is so hurt over not being able to abuse thorn and ghorn.

Ghorn especially. Its not some unique fun weapon. It's just a game breaking damage cannon. Sounds like some people are worried they can't press ghorn to win anymore.

I played Destiny last weekend for the first time in a year and while there are changes you are overexaggerating as hell.

TTK though? Compared to it Destiny + TDB + HOW look like a beta. This is what the game should have been in Y1

The changes from TDB + HOW + The Taken King mechanically are different game from launch September 2014 Destiny. Here we go, just cause I feel like doing this to prove a point

- Entire leveling system reworked from the ground up
- Entire Loot system and how you aquire them reworked
- Entire weapon upgrade system reworked
- Entire armor upgrade system reworked
- Vendors totally overhauled
- How you aquire upgrade materials reworked
- Cryptarch reworked

I could go on and on and on and on.

Vanilla Destiny people were shooting in a cave and running loops around Mars to get materials. The entire mechanice of the game have been reworked and rebalanced. Case closed

Saying there aren't new worlds and places to explore does absolutely nothing to counter act my point

Excellent changes but the most important question stays unanswered...

Do I need to spend all my free time farming the current faction ships or will I still get them later. I need to know! :(

Also, this game is an MMORPG spanning ten years, this is standard stuff. It's not really possible to keep a game balanced if you try to keep hundreds of gear/weapons viable.

I'm somewhat biased because i only care about a handful of weapons and armor that seem like they'll be refreshed going forward.

However, I find this sentiment confusing when the game has been out for a year. This is a loot-driven game where the replayability largely comes from getting better stuff. They're not making all of the old stuff irrelevant, but if they didn't eventually phase them out there would be no point to designing new stuff, and therefore less of a reason to do most of the activities. And that's not to mention the nightmare of balancing the game around hundreds of weapons.

The upgrades made sense for the first two expansions when we were just earning these items and they didn't have time to spend tweaking existing content while designing new ones. This time however it looks like they've paid more attention to how weapon perks compliment one another and behave from different factions. We'll always have our favorites and I hope they don't end up irrelevant (which I doubt). Nevertheless, I'm personally ready for new toys.

edit: We also don't know the full extent of the upgrades yet and whether or not certain exotics will never be upgraded.

Do you see how many new exotics there are? Phasing out the old to bring in the new only makes sense,.

Why bother adjusting exotics at all right before the update if they can't be carried over. My point is you don't need to phase out the old for the new. Both can exist.

And I say this purely from an aesthetic point of view. I just like the models. If the perks changed on ascension to Year 2 I wouldn't mind.

You should be questioning why you play this game at all. Destiny is not a stagnant game and you seem to think it is. No matter what they do the game is going to affect what you did in the past somehow whether it was in a positive or negative way. I mean I don't even play MMOs really and none these things are surprising to me. People like to make those meme comments about veteran players participating in year 1 as if it were a beta but destiny of now is going to look completely different from destiny 5 years from now or even another year from now. If you or anyone else can't understand that and know that all you potentially do today in the game is not going to matter 6-12 months from now then stop playing the game. It's not for you.

So why even nerf non pvp oriented guns when 2.0 hits since most won't be upgradeable to year 2 gear? For example, since ghorn was just on sale I have the suspicion it won't be upgradeable to year 2, so why the big nerf?

I bet PlayStation exclusive guns will be upgradeable to year 2 exotics since they will be new weapons to Xbox One players anyway.

I feel you. I get both sides I really do.

Trust me my favorite Gun Fate Bringer is going to suffer from this fate.

Suffice to say, I do mind.

I really don't think my play style needed to get a massive middle finger to satisfy that lust for the grind, but here we are.

Because it allows them room to be upgraded in the future?

It'll probably be a bullet point of the next smaller DLC.

Changes for 1.4.1
  • Added 6 more Year 1 Exotics into the Year 2 Blueprint pool

Monte Carlo and Hawkmoon are definitely carrying over. Monte Carlo kinda sucks though so being new to Xbox is the only reason I can see it being kept relevant.

Because as people keep restating: The damage fix only affects pve. People will still be using these exotics in pvp and they will still be broken as hell. Of course they're going to rebalance them and nerf their damage progression at the same time. Moving forward and phasing out old mechanics, weapons, armor is a good thing.

I would be willing to bet the list of Year 1 guns being carried over to Year 2 is not final. It's not as simple as pushing a button. The guns need to be re-balanced against year 2 guns, and the infusion system determined. As someone said above, they can simply be added later in an update, once they've been balanced and new stats determined.

Because the GJallarhorn does 3x as much damage every other rocket launcher.

Everything I love about Destiny was there at launch... fun gameplay and a great atmosphere. The expansions added a tiny bit more for a premium price, and this one seems to be the same. I'm willing to pay because I still enjoy playing the game, but I would suggest most people buy any other game they are seriously interested in first because that will probably be a much better value.

I just don't understand why people care about Destiny's story or various upgrade systems. The unlocking of slight variations to weapons is just an EXCUSE to play. It's not like a proper role-playing game where the upgrading of your character(s) is an actual NARRATIVE with an interesting structure to it.

The majority of people complaining that they are unable to enjoy Destiny seem to be arguing that the psychological hooks are insufficiently optimized to best keep them playing for the wrong reasons.

Destiny's backstory is important for the developers to have so they can create a proper world, but the players are not playing a narrative game so it's silly to try to cram more of that into the actual game. I thought putting the story in an iOS app was the perfect way to handle it. At least we'll be able to skip them now.

Missed the stream, there are swords now!? Guess its hunter only and Warlock and Titans will get something else.

Swords are not class specific. We've seen a warlock holding one as well right now.

Different people enjoy different aspects of a game. Simple as that.

Any pictures of someone holding the sword? Really happy to see melee weapons here

Not exactly.

In an old E3 video was saw a Warlock that was using their new super but the icon for a sword in the heavy slot was down at the bottom of the screen (thus equipped).

Today we saw a hunter with a sword on their back in the tower.

While I've stuck with Destiny through the year, and have crawled my way to lvl 32, I'm a bit lost on some of the TTK additions.

I like the sounds of the new Warlock subclass, so come TTK, can I switch to the new subclass, take that character boost item, and still have access to these subclass quests Bungie is introducing?

Bungie heard this particular narrative a lot among the players and stated that TK will have a more story driven center piece revolving around the progression of your character. That is yet to be determined, but I have faith that will actually happen upon release.

One point you seem to be missing is that this game is an MMO first. It isn't a straight forward RPG. As most MMO's are there is more then one way to play. One of Destiny defining points are you can progress playing how you want. It ins't as linear as say a traditional RPG that has a set story and you progress through the evolution of the story.

I really dislike cloaks and arm bands having stats now. They were the last thing that was really cosmetic and able to customize at will. Now all the great looking cloaks will have to be shuffled off for newer and potentially uglier ones.
I really do wish there was a transmog feature.
