Forza Motorsport 6 has "wet weather, 3D puddles and night races" + more

My refusal to go digital with this game has me buying the regular edition + VIP and car pass once it's available. It's unlikely to cost me more than the Ultimate Edition because I got a good deal on my Forza 6 pre-order but the extra 5 day wait is going to sting.

How many other people are doing the same thing as me? Maybe we can form a support group to get through Sept 10 - 15 lol.

Just out of curiosity, why?

I am fully digital on PC and I buy a lot of games digitally on PS4/X1 but I prefer to own physical copies of games I really like. Part of it being I like seeing them on my shelf, part of it being that I want to make sure I can always play them in the future should something happen to the digital stores you download from. In practice I don't actually go back and play older games all that often but I just like knowing I will always have the option.

Fair enough :)

Digital is just so convenient for me,I am pretty much fully digital on both XBO and PS4 (think I own 3 physical games between them) so as long as I can get the same product for a comparable price, which normally means being it from a different region, then I'll go digital.

I've got over 1000 game cases in my loft from the previous gen, so it's not something I want to replicate if possible!!!

Yeah going digital saves a ton of space if you're the type to buy a lot of games and not having to get up to change discs is pretty satisfying lol.

I still haven't decided myself. I always go physical if I can. Although I'm off work starting the 10th for the rest of the week...

I wish they would have made some kind of physical CE, I think this will be the first Forza (other than the original, F2 and FH2) that didn't get the CE treatment. But yeah, I'm going digital because there were no deals on the physical copy of the game from Dell and I had gift cards so I just used it on XBL gift cards.

FM6's tyre physics are an step above those in FM5, longitudinal grip (which was very wonky in FM5) is better, although braking is still a big issue, so much so that I am really struggling to brake effectively in FM6 without using ABS, I don't know what it is exactly, but the sense of deceleration is all wrong, and just feels weird, acceleration in powerful cars now feels much better.

FM uses FOV effects for acceleration and deceleration, vignetting at high speeds. That being said, I have the same feeling. When I brake in FM, the only thing telling me "nope, this car can't decelerate any harder" is when I lock up the brakes. Looking at the 60-0 values though, the same cars decelerate stronger in FM5 than they do in PCARS and if I do lock up the brakes, the "you've fucked up" effect is stronger and probably more realistic in FM. Maybe it's the linearity on the triggers/brake pedal or the FOV-speed-effects that make it harder to judge in FM.

FM6 (maybe down to the FM6 default setups?) is really understeery,
All the road cars in PCARS are even more understeery and a 1000 times less direct steering feel. Considering that there aren't any race cars in the FM6 demo, I have to disagree at the moment.

Also...
I don't think the level of grip is as high as it should be up to the limit"
Less grippy usually means more oversteery in modern cars with pretty stiff suspension and sway-bar setups. Maybe your feeling of understeer in FM is to a big degree due to speed-sensitive steering with the controller and Turn 10 playing it safe??

You sound like my wife!.

In reality, no, probably not, but I am a bit of a horder..........

Even at an average of £2 a pop that's a monster gaming rig and VR headset for you, effectively free of charge.

I checked my eBay seller account recently, and I've sold over £8k worth of junk over the years. The vast majority of it would have otherwise gone to the tip.

Still can't get over the rain on the windshield running @30fps during races. It's annoying me as badly as if the game was tearing.

I don't even know how you could ascertain what frames the rain is running at because the velocity of rain changes depending on how fast you are going. Do you have some technical info to share or are you going by an "eye test"? I'll amuse for the sake of discussion that the windshield rain is running @ 30fps. Wouldn't that produce a higher quality effect? I say that because I've looked at the two latest racers on the market that are doing high quality windshield rain effects (DriveClub & Project Cars) and compared them to Forza 6. What I found out is DC and Forza 6 are the only racing games where the rain animation on the windshield moves accurately with the momentum of the car. Project Cars rain squalls are pre baked (yes, even after the Patch 3.0 update) and only move up the windshield of the car. When the cars turn there is no side to side movement of the rain across the windshield. Here's comparision video, pay attention to the water animation on turns...

Here a better PC3.0 video with more turns. Showing the windshield rain animation never changes...

An effect that takes over nearly 60% of the screen and runs at half the FPS of everything else in front of it (cockpit) and behind it (racetrack and opponents) running at double the FPS is jarring as hell. Just switching between cameras makes a huge difference imo.

It's a shame it does this. When i played the old ones it annoyed me that the rear view mirrors did the same thing... :(

Every racing game needs Pcars level of immersion with its helmet cam and gforce effects. THIS is why I'm finding f6 tame and uninspired

half the refresh rate for water drops and mirrors doesn't annoy me too much, i'll take that over an unstable 60 for the time being but hopefully they can look into that for the future. I would think that 60fps mirrors would be possible if they toned down the reflecive detail to playstation 1 levels but that would look nasty, it's already bad enough when you see an AI car without a shadow sometimes as it really removes the car from realism and makes it look like it's floating.

Looks like he is flicking the analog stick left and right full lock too, worst way to drive in the rain in a fast car.

Dear turn10 I would love to preview forza 7 next time and drive like a pro k thx.

Part of the reason I'm staying away from reviews, not the reviews themselves, but the awful lack of knowledge on display by some mainstream reviewers.

Watching the many mainstream sites video of the last Forza game was painful. From mispronouncing well known automotive terms, doing everything on full assists - but claiming it was still really hard, to making massive factual errors about the game or motorsport. It's not the opinion of the game that bothers me - I didn't make it - it's watching so much ignorance in a short space of time.

Being formerly in the trade I tend to be more sensitive about this stuff, but as an editor I would only give reviewers a game to handle when I believed they had the knowledge to be the best person to tackle that genre. I guess there's a flipside to this though - the mainstream audience don't know that stuff either and want a review a bit like how they'd do it, so I do see both sides.

Do you have a capture studio set up? and do you constantly blurt out nonsense in order to retain your live youtube/twitch audience?
You're going to need to work on those two key components, ontop of being a good driver otherwise.

I could never be a streamer, i just cant talk that much about nothing.

Jeff Gerstmann's parents are car mechanics, I'd say he has more knowledge about cars than the average Forza player and his tastes are representative of a majority FM buyers (loves tuning very average cars to the max and try to compete in higher classes, likes custom paintjobs, tuning rims etc.). He also has tried an FFB wheel before, he drove a Chevy Nova and now has a Lexus, he was live commentator on destruction derbies and he plays racing games since the mid 80ies... I'd say he's qualified enough. When it comes to pointing out strengths and weaknesses he admits his lack of knowledge and skill where it's necessary and he smacked Driveclub for feeling archaic in it's driving model (neither arcade enough nor a good sim-feel).

But... I give you tha, when I see him try to take corners on a racetrack, I do get the one or other cringe as well, but it's nowhere near as bad as the cringes I get when I see Giant Bomb quick look a soccer game.

On the mispronunciation... check out how much stuff Darin Gangi mispronounces. "Renault Mega(h)neee" or "Rufff CTR3", yet his experience with hundreds of racing games and FFB-feel make him an expert nonetheless.

Edit: The reviews that I really dislike are the ones who review Forza just as a racing sim for their "hardcore sim" audience, totally dismissing all the features that aren't important to them, but sure are important to lots of more casual players.

I have a capture setup but the only stuff I stream lately has been speedrun related.

All i'm getting at is that I can race well and would show off the game better then a Dpad warrior :p

It bothered me at first but I adjusted to it after a few romps through the demo. The overall rain effects are fantastic imo, especially that rainy fog/mist all over the track in varying densities. Good stuff.

It's not limited to cars, Darin couldn't pronounce Prague either.

Does the ultimate edition include the upcoming Porsche DLC?

Yes I am considering preordering...

I may be misremembering the Giant Bomb. So my apologies. But I did see plenty of really dumb "let's play" videos from major sites around the time of FM5 launch.

rain racing is so lame. driving through a puddle is not enjoyable.

the golf R is an understeering POS.

graphics are awesome for this hardware. imagine what Turn 10 could do with a top tier PC graphics card.

No!

Again, No!
^ Nevermind! Sorry everyone!

Porsches are coming sometime in 2016 so it's not super likely.

I misinterpreted this quote under the context of the Porsche pack launching lol.
Bringing Porsche to Forza Horizon 2 is fantastic news for Xbox fans and, even better, it’s just the start! We're excited to share that we are working together with Porsche and EA to deliver the Porsche experience to Forza Motorsport 6 players in 2016. We'll have more details to share in the future on the integration.

I still really like that guy, he knows his FFB-hardware, is a competent racer (not saying "ace", but really competent) and has fair opinions.

Darin's alright, like the guy too. I've chatted to him a bit on ISR by PM, it's nice he's happy to engage and share opinions.

He's optimistic, entertaining and enthusiastic, can't really ask for more.

Ouch, I just bought the Ultimate Edition. Should tide me over until Forza 7.
