Super Mario Maker |OT| Miyamoto Simulator 2015

Aahahahahahaha! Holy shit this was hilarious.

Okay guys I made a stage finally and its pretty hilarious...don't bother trying to figure out a pattern because quite quickly it changes every time you play and the more you delay the crazier it gets.

My theme? Springboards that fly that are on their sides. :p

Welcome to bouncetown. Please play and give me feedback so I know what to make for you guys next ;)

First try! It's tricky though, lots and lots of close calls. Got hit in the first jump of the second area but I got cautious after that. Super fun but I think a more adequate end would be before Bowser Jr. - Jr. is a really sudden drop in the difficulty (those blocks even destroy his shells sometimes) and it makes the end a bit anticlimatic.

Yeah, I understand why checkpoints were difficult for them to implement but they still cripple some level design. I didn't want to make Bowser Jr. more difficult because I knew a death would send you all the way back to the beginning

It has potential. I think with a bit of adjusting, it could be pretty fun. The ending felt a bit underwhelming compared to the start and there was a pipe towards the end of the wall jumping that was slightly receded inwards, making jumping up in that section awkward. I would have liked to see a wall jumping section with the giant plants or some other variation. Maybe line all of the walls with plants and give the player a star or something fun like that.

Yeah. Being limited the Day 1 content limited my vision a bit. I wanted to flood the floor with fire and thing like that, but didn't have access to those tools at the time. Once I unlock all the tools I'll expand on this design with better enemy and item placement.

Finally unlocked the final assets. I haven't been spamming anything, just designing as intended. I wasn't bothered by the 9-day thing when I heard about it, but in hindsight I'm glad they made it possible to get stuff quicker. 9 days is a long time when you have SMM and just want to be making without limits.

Thanks, I agree, I'm going to see if I can tweak this one. Does editing and re-uploading an existing stage like this count against your upload limit

Thanks for all the feedback. Do you have an easy link where I can check out your stages?

IIf you delete and then reupload the stage it shouldn't count against your limit.

I'll PM you my stages since I don;t want to spam the thread.

I hope checkpoints (and new music selections, give us more than one song per level type please!) make it in an update soon. Game feels incomplete without it. But I'm still enjoying it, it just feels like it needs a few things to really be something special.

Somewhat easy level, but try and find all the 1ups!

Not a difficult stage, probably not even a challenging one. But an exemplary display of how to do a stage with a character theme and a clever approach on how to do a lot with very little while being obscenely charming to boot. The Mario equivalent of a praline!

Simple but effective in how you used the enlarged enemies to create that sense of scale for the Pikmin.
I didn't actually know you could be a trio of pikmin, such a neat skin.

That was adorable. And I found Olimar!

Sometimes there's something to be said for rock solid level design. This stage doesn't reinvent the wheel but it does manage to evoke a sense of wonder of exploring a sunken ship, effortlessly combining underwater and ship sections, with very natural enemy placement and a nice sense of pace.

Excellent level! Fun theme, reasonable challenge. Keep up the good work!

I also want triggers. They have triggers for special effects, but I want triggers to switch platform directions, make a track turn from closed to open, stuff like that.
But yeah, checkpoints are kinda needed. Hopefully after failing to complete a course they created on the Treehouse they see it's important.

Beating a stage that nobody else has completed yet feels good, especially when it's a legit challenge and not just nonsense. Also love it when I see a Gaffer's level pop up. Ya'll make good levels, I need to sub to the creator thread.

Thanks for feedback! Your words warm my designer heart :).

As for your level, if I'm going to be honest, I have no idea what to do after the saws in the beginning. haha

There. I made an updated version so the beginning is a little more obvious!

You could try mine, my brother had a really hard time beating it. What's yours?

I have never created a level in anything before, really, so my first try was quite interesting. Since most of the stages I've seen so far were either entirey based on cheap gimmicks or just hard as balls, I tried to make a level that's easily managable and yet still interesting. The result is... Well, the idea isn't bad, the execution is lacking, but, hey, it could have been a lot worse!

Would be cool if someone could give it a go. Right now it still has a sad 0 plays. ;(

My second stage a few tough jumps, tough smb1 level

you can cheese a good chunk of it if your quick but was too frustrated to go back and fix

Since some people might not know this, figured I'd share something I just found out about recording custom SFX. The manual says when uploading a course that uses custom SFX, any sounds you have inserted into the parrot icon will be automatically replaced with a parrot's squawk. Guess that's one way to prevent people from uploading levels with profanity and stuff.

Made a simple one, you can probably guess it with the picture :

Some twists though. :p

So, working on making 4 worlds, 4 stages each using each theme. Currently making a SMB3 one, but I've finished a set of SMB1 levels, figured I'd post them all in one list. Give 'em a shot and tell me what you think.

1-1 Pipe Plains: 3259-0000-0012-0AB3
1-2 Bullet Bill Moat: CA6A-0000-0012-5233

1-4 Castle: 636D-0000-001A-2BA0

3. Little Pikmin Adventure by Robin64 (ID: E088-0000-0018-E993)

Love the segment with the pipes and huge piranhas. Going below it being afraid I'll get hit was super cool.

4. Sunken Airship by Dimentios (ID: 2053-0000-0012-5786).

Super solid! Love the progression from underwater -> ship -> underwater with artillery -> heavy artillery. Great, great progression, and it was super fun as well. Ending became really chaotic and it was fun.

Great little stage, good enemy placement and nice atmosphere. Too bad Bill don't turn into Torpedo Teds when placed underwater. :/

At least it'd be good if we could change enemy speed. =/

Good levels!

Totally addicted to this game- Can't stop messing around in the level editor. Really enjoyed these two levels and would like to reccomend:

Junior's Flying Flotilla

7A70-0000-0022-16DB

Warped:

9888-0000-0024-DDAB

really enjoyed Warped- was a fun little twist on Level 1-1.

And *cough* have you played this one? I've heard its so intense, it *shakes the screen*

Reading the miiverse comments make it all worthwhile in the end.

Made an easy little castle, a couple surprises but no cheap deaths if you pay attention to the clues (the course layout screen gives it away!)

8C33-0000-0026-B602

I made it for my girlfriend to be moderately challenging, so it's pretty easy (;

Give it a try, it'll be quick and not frustrating at all!

My first real attempt at a level. It's a maze level with no enemies or pits that can kill you, but you only have 150 seconds to solve it. I tried to make it challenging, but not frustratingly so. Any feedback is welcome!

I feel like you should unlock two or even three costumes for finishing Mario 100 on expert, doesn't seem fair you get the same reward for finishing 16 hard levels as compared to 8 really easy ones.

My second level, using the same formula - introduce a concept at its basic form, then another concept at its basic form, join them together and up the difficulty as you go.

I think it's a bit easier than the other one. 3 hidden 1-ups as well.
Feedback would be much appreciated.

Beat it. Found two of the 1Ups. Don't have anything to criticize here. Your concept is really thought out and the level design feels very "Nintendo-y".

For my future levels I will also think of an overall concept first and not just put different obstacles together. It gives the level a theme and feels immediatly more well-rounded.

I checked my levels and noticed that on one of the levels' thumbnail there is a little yellow arrow in the upper right corner. Anyone know what that is all about?

These are the first 4 I did that felt worth uploading... any feedback would be cool! And sorry for the LQ pics, next time will be better.

The Gardener: EBB1-0000-001D-7611
A map more or less covered in piranha plants - I give you a fire flower to "landscape" your way through, but there are a few lakitus overhead so the more you drag your feet, the harder it gets. (That was my original idea, I wanted a map where you are empowered thus tempted to relax or dilly-dally, which you'll regret.)

Peace Pipes: FBD5-0000-001E-23A4
Another piranha plant map, but this time with no "offensive" options. Navigating tight corridors and platforms, knowing where you are safe is key. Not a long map, and - in my opinion anyway - not nearly as hard as it looks if you take it slow and use the fact piranha plants won't pop out of pipe if you're on or next to it.

Mountain Fortress: EE25-0000-0025-F9EA
A quick jog up and over some narrow peaks to a koopa fortress, which the goal is just beyond. I probably am most proud of this one, just because I think it's fun to look at and hopefully play. I tried to back off the difficulty compared to the previous 2, as well.

...and finally...

The Albatross: E294-0000-0026-40A7
A super short map that - like the second to last boss of Bionic Commando it's named and modeled after - is more bark than bite. I'm not claiming this one is that fun or clever, it's just a BC fanboy making levels. ;)

I checked my levels and noticed that on one of the levels' thumbnail there is a little yellow arrow in the upper right corner. Anyone know what that is all about?

I think it just means that you uploaded that course and didn't change it since.

Beat it. Found two of the 1Ups. Don't have anything to criticize here. Your concept is really thought out and the level design feels very "Nintendo-y".

For my future levels I will also think of an overall concept first and not just put different obstacles together. It gives the level a theme and feels immediatly more well-rounded.

Saying it feels "Nintendo-y" is an amazing compliment, thanks a lot =DDD
But yeah, I feel it's best to start with a concept - really became a fan of that style after seeing some analysis videos of the design for Mario stages

Your 'Sawblade Panic' already does a pretty god job at it, though, methinks.

My first semi-serious, not made under the influence of alcohol level:

Left & Right in the Dark
1D02-0000-0029-9A4D

I'd say it's low to medium difficulty, and pretty short. A couple of different routes to the flag.

Some of the levels you folks are making are out of this world good!

Are the servers just being slammed/are abysmal or is my college's internet just really REALLY shit?

Every time I play an online level, 100 Mario Challenge, Search for a level, ANYTHING, I get error code 106-0105, or just "Connection Error has Occurred".

I go to a school where the main draw is the game design/programming/art program, and so the internet should be open for all games. The only thing blocked is torrenting things other than Linux Distros. So what the hell?

Argh code is so close to being R2D2. C'mon Nintendo what I missed opportunity!

Kinda stole the concept from another level I played but added a twist. It's simple but I want to make it more complicated eventually once I get all the tools.

She can't beat it, someone mind giving it a try and seeing if it is actually too difficult?

Haha she made it to the end but died because she thought the bridge axe would hurt her! Completed!

Last time I'm advertising this old thing in here. Hopefully soon I'll have an all new level I can be proud of posting!

Rise and Fall of King Goomba V2: A1E0-0000-001C-A138
My first level. Spent a loooooooooooong time getting it where I want it and limited myself to using items only from the first item set. Pretty ambitious for my first try. I'm happy with it.

Since tweaking and reuploading the level, my plays have sort of crawled compared to the first version. Also, even though I'm pretty sure I made it more easy, my clear rate is much lower on this refinement. Confusing.

I'm currently working on an expanded version of the digging section in this level and a back to basics level using only the first two tiers. I do not enjoy excruciatingly difficult or cheap levels so I won't be making any of the sort.

My second level is done. Spent about 5 hours on it. One major theme in all my levels is that you don't need to run to beat the level. You never have to press the Y button. Of course, you can still play it running as well. It doesn't matter.
