NIOH (Koei Tecmo) reconfirmed for PS4 (2016, Team Ninja, Dark Sengoku Action RPG)

Looks really great. I'm always up for more big-budget samurai or ninja games, but Japanese publishers don't usually seem to agree. You can definitely see Team Ninja in this, because it does look crazily polished just from that short gameplay snippet.

I don't want it to be soulsy, I want it to be Onimusha like, which it does tbh, maybe more so than Souls or Ninja Gaiden.

Yeah, weird people are saying "Samurai Souls", this looked more like Onimusha with hints of Ninja Gaiden. Far prefer Onimusha gameplay over Souls anyways, glad Ni-Oh takes inspiration from Onimusha.

The Onimusha-feel made me really interested.
Koei Tecmo is doing what Capcom should be doing. /prays Koei-Tecmo doesn't announce a Samurai Warrior competitive shooter

Looked a lot like Ninja Gaiden, even moreso than Onimusha.
Even the village has a similar layout to that in NG Black.

Looks good either way

Onimusha + Ninja Gaiden + Samurai Geralt + That graphics engine = WIN.

Now imagine Dynasty Warriors 9 with that engine.

Believes Dragon Quest is a franchise managed by Sony
So this is what Ninja Gaiden 3 Razor's edge devs have been working on. They make suspect NG games, but working on a new IP will do wonders for them.

Who are the devs? I know Team Ninja was on the 2005 project but are they still in?

I don't see the Onimusha resemblance much to be honest. Aesthetically, sure, it's a fantasy samurai dude, but gameplay wise it looks very different, closer to Souls
that's a good thing, I don't want tank controls xD
but with modern action game "finishers".

For you people who haven't played an Onimusha game, play Onimusha 2, still holds up as one of the best action games ever made. It's also a stand alone story so you don't need to play the first game.

Ok that looked tastey and worth the wait. This is the gen where dreams come true. This, shenmue 3, tlg, and ffvs13/15 have the Japanese contingency covered. Need some agent and half life 3 miracles over here!

I know it's not Onimusha. But the trailer reminded me of it. And Onimusha was one of my favourite PS2 titles. Really looking forward to see more of it.

Seeing this game lives makes me happy.
Looks like poor man's onimusha, enemies look kind of dumb, tho it's still under development.

May be Capcom will jump back into onimusha's wagon if this do any decent in terms of sales.

This made me realize we haven't seen a game like Onimusha in years.

a bit off-topic, and kinda pointless, but...

Here's Onimusha 3's CG intro @ 60fps: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ej_78fDLUAE

I wonder if PS4 could re-create that PS2-era CG in real time. Not as gameplay, just as it was, an intro.
I think most of it wouldn't be a problem, though some of the smoke effects in the more complex open scenes would have to be toned down.
