Westerners will know this game best as Final Fantasy Adventure or Mystic Quest.

Website: http://www.jp.square-enix.com/seiken/

They're estimating 1,400 Yen for the price, but it's not finalized yet: http://dengekionline.com/elem/000/001/116/1116424/

Thanks to duckroll, ULTROS, mao2, Raven777, and crinale for the information.

Update

Additional information:

The Dengeki interview is interesting. I've only had time to skim it a little, but the guy in charge says that they're remaking the first game in 3D to act as a foundation for more remakes in the series. Mainly so they can have all the older titles from SD1-3 on the same platforms in 3D sharing assets and whatnot, and it can pave the way for a SD5 possibly. They're taking into consideration the demands of fans with the coming anniversary next year. They're also planning on releasing this remake on PS4 in future, but they'll only work on that after releasing the portable ones. For a downloadable stand alone title like this, he estimates the price will be about 1400yen. So 10-15 bucks.

No liking the art style.

I'll buy on iOS, because, knowing SE I doubt it will come the Vita in the west.

Is this the first game ever to get two entirely different remakes?

Forgot about Lunar? Sega CD, PS1/Saturn, GBA, and PSP versions are all very different.

Also, this is actually the third remake for FFA/Seiken Densetsu 1. There was a mobile remake a while ago that we never got - looked like it had the exact same gameplay & layouts as the original game but with SNES-esque visuals.

The screenshot shows it running at 20 fps on Vita.

I am definitely hoping that they localize it as a digital release with a budget price.

duckroll has some additional details coming momentarily, and I'll update the OP with them.

What does FFA mean in the title, is this a Final Fantasy game?

Sort of. In the West it was renamed Final Fantasy Adventure.

I added a note to the OP.

That looks ... disappointing ... any infos on wether they used the original story or the altered one from Sword of Mana?

Please SQEX, never touch Secret of Mana and Chrono Trigger again ... for the better.
You are allowed to make a translated VC/PSN release of Secret of Mana 2, though. But only translate it!

Do we count FFIV in this equation? The PSP version is kind of a ground-up remake? Kind of? Anyway, the DS version definitely is. If we count both, then that springs to mind.

Also, Lunar, but that's already been mentioned.

Also also, this looks bad.

Graphics looks a little cheap, but since it's based on the original (not the GBA), it should be good.

I will get it on iPad.

Well, I won't get it, because it won't get an English release.

You said you just skimmed through it but that is pretty much everything the guy had to say, nice work.

It was always a Final Fantasy spinoff

Subsequent games (and Sword of Mana) dropped the FF connection.

Game was originally released on the gameboy in the west as Final Fantasy Adventure.
But its a Mana game, not a FF game. FF was just used because the name was already established.
In fairness, it had Final Fantasy in the title in Japan, too.

Nononononono don't ruin Secret of Mana and SD3 with such a mediocre remake ...

And if that is the base for a possible SD 5 ... then i just don't want it.

To the credit of the remake artstyle, it did instantly conjure the feel of the original for me, which was after all about as simple as you can get. Sunk a ton of hours into FFA back in the day.

Huh. Kinda surprised they tried another premium on mobile.

The art and (what little can be seen of) gameplay looks pretty....I don't know, bland? Like there's nothing that really stood out against all other higher-end mobile titles by indie devs. Almost feel like this is the 3D equivalent of those FF 5 and 6 mobile "remakes".

Edit: I hope this is playable on mobile with gamepad, too!

People, stop saying "in the West" ...it was never called Final Fantasy anything outside of North America (and I guess Japan for the first one) :)

Thanks for the info! Hopefully it does well, at least enough for them to release the remakes of 2 and 3.

Confused by the OP. Final Fantasy Adventure (GB) and Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest (SNES) are two different games.

The art style looks awful, but I will probably play it since I'm a fan of the older Seiken Densetsu games.

Hopefully switching between touch and physical controls on Vita also works for the UI, as in it changes from mobile to physical controls.

Is this a remake of Sword of Mana or the original FFA?

you should say Mystic Quest (GB, PAL) and Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest (SNES, NA) are two entirely different games.

FFA (NA, GB) and Mystic Quest (PAL, GB) are the same game.

It was "Final Fantasy Gaiden" in Japan too.

hence my edit :)

FFA of course.
