ITT: people complaining/noting that the NeoGAF top movie list was made by NeoGAF users!

Welp, time to see Lawrence of Arabia... don't know how it escaped me for so long!

7. The Dark Knight
46. memento
57. Inception
72. Interstellar
104. The prestige
136. Batman Begins

Out of the greatest 136 movies ever made, 6 are Nolan's.
Is Nolan the greatest director in the history of this mankind?

Oh nice! I actually thought I missed the results thread. ;) Thanks to Sam and mariachi for the work and getting this thread out there. I'm glad I could help you guys out a bit.

I personally don't care too much for the Top 10. Five of my ten films made the 10 points cut, of those Vertigo is, as expected, the highest placed. It's by far my favorite film and it made GAF's top 30. I'm quite alright with that.
The full list would be much longer though. Just the one page in the Voting Thread I worked on has almost as many films mentioned as in this OP's list. Would be interested in a Spreadsheet link to the full list.

Didn't even know there was a vote!

This should have been called gaf's top ten favorite films instead though. As a "best of all time" list, it's a bit weak tbh.

Subbed. Will work through this list.

Although TDK in the top 50 is a damn embarrassment.
Haha TDK's Oscar snub was so big that it made the Academy change the number of nominees for Best Picture.

Some of you are going to have to come to terms with the fact that TDK is a very popular, critically acclaimed film.

I'm more grossed out by Shawshank being so high than I am by that boringly typical top 10.

But oh well, can't expect everyone to know those random European and Asian films that, in spite of their greatness, are seen by like 5 people.

What if harSon was spending all of this time trying to change all the TDK votes to something else and try to make it not obvious that he did?

He's the hero we (potentially) deserved!

we got the top 10 we deserve, and not the one we need right now

I forget what my top 10 even was, it changes a lot.

1. Jaws
2. Die Hard
3. Mulholland Dr.
4. Raiders of the Lost Ark
5. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
6. The Sweet Smell of Success
7. Sunset Blvd
8. All That Jazz
9. Goodfellas
10. Mad Max: Fury Road

yeah Fury Road is that good

Everything I voted for except for Dogville and Fiddler on the Roof made it. I highly recommend both.

I never saw the voting thread to vote, but I guess it's no surprise that not a single black movie made it in and the two with the most black people in it are of course by Quentin Tarantino and Do The Right Thing which seems to be the only Spike Lee movie non HBCU university film programs care about.

Batman Begins being that low is a goddamn crime

Jesus, I always have such bog-standard taste.

GAF's number 1 is my number one, 5 of GAF's top 10 make it into mine. Feels odd being normal.

No Star Wars film has any business being anywhere near any list of good movies, though. Never understood the love for it. Disliked it even as a kid.

Dr. Strangelove and Good, Bad n' Uggo both needed to be top 5, though.

None of that means it deserves to be on a top ten of all time list though
It does mean you shouldn't be upset or stunned that it is. I personally wouldn't put Raiders of the Lost Ark or Blade Runner anywhere close to my own top 10, but I recognize that they are very popular, critically acclaimed films, so whatevs.

Huh.

My personal top 10:

1) Brazil (actual rank: #102)
2) ALIEN (actual rank: #5)
3) Fantasia (actual rank: #242)
4) The Maltese Falcon (actual rank: #147)
5) Raiders of the Lost Ark (actual rank: #9)
6) Goodfellas (actual rank: #17)
7) Ran (actual rank: #97)
8) Rear Window (actual rank: #24)
9) Apocalypse Now (actual rank: #13)
10) Princess Mononoke. (actual rank: #50)

I'd probably change my top 10 list now (I changed it twice before the vote was locked in) but that's pretty interesting to see how my tastes directly match up to the GAF popular vote. Because if GAF were ordering my personal top 10, it'd apparently go

1) ALIEN
2) Raiders of the Lost Ark
3) Apocalypse Now
4) Goodfellas
5) Princess Mononoke
6) Rear Window
7) Ran
8) Brazil
9) The Maltese Falcon
10) Fantasia

People being upset is relative. This is a small message board poll so any grievances are just in good fun.

gaf appreciates the artistry of cinema but ultimately only if it's either in the sci-fi genre or has cool violent men to idolize

People are already saying "GAF gonna GAF" but honestly, get any internet space with a reasonable population and it's gonna be pretty similar. The IMDB comparisons are a tiny bit of a testament to this, even if it's not quite the same.

Truthfully I at least like every film in the top 100 I've seen, so I'd say I'm pretty happy with ya GAF.

Never heard of "Lawrence of Arabia's".

Push everything back 4 hours, you got something you need to do.

The first part of Batman Begins is like the only part of that movie I can accept anyone calling the best of the trilogy.
