Famitsu "leaks" Laura for Street Fighter V

I know, it's amazing how many people are freaking out at the suggestion that a character that comes from a country where the nummerical majority is not white could be an opportunity for Capcom to introduce a character with darker skin.

But is it more or less dream shattering for you the idea that people are freaking out that her skin isn't a different colour?

It's like that the mere mention that a fictional character who is white could just as easily not be triggers something in them.

She doesn't even look white, though.

Light brown skin, but not white.

Feel free to point to these posts of people freaking out that she could have been dark-skinned, though. Maybe I missed them.

Also, you should probably chill. I'm absolutely all for more dark-skin characters, more diversity, etc. The notion of her possibly being darker skinned does nothing to "trigger" shit, so I do sincerely hope that wasn't directed anywhere near me in any form.

My only issue with it is freaking out when she's not that, as if its somehow wrong. It's really not enjoyable watching people be unnecessarily negative or not count someone because they're skin shade is lighter or darker than "what should count as [insert ethnicity]".

It's more disturbing when its a fictional character.

Edit: Cleaned up. I should prol'ly break from the thread.

Since when is she straight-up white? She looks mixed race or something to me. She's a little pale but she's definitely brown. I'm similar in real life.

I don't know; I get the feeling anyone saying she looks Caucasian hasn't seen any (or many) Latinos IRL. There are Latinos with European features, African features, and Asian features, but they identify as Latino, mainly on cultural background. Which honestly, is much smarter than how, say, Americans choose to identify themselves most of the time. I mean shit, look at this thread to see how stupid that method's turned out to be xD.

Anyhow even I can't believe that debate is still going on x3; did it go on this long for Mika?

Now Hot Ryu I can understand; that's Chris Evans, not Ryu.

I don't see the big deal. She's a Brazilian of mainly Portuguese descent.

She's just Brazilian, period. She's mixed like the majority of the country. To what level, who knows and honestly who cares? She looks more Brazilian than Mika or Karin (or Ryu) look Japanese, that's for sure.

She almost certainly has ties to Sean, and I think Sean has a good chance of being eventual DLC. So I think Brazil will have a couple of shades represented when it's all said and done. Not that it's that big of a deal imo, I mean prior to this Brazil had, ... you know!

I am going to love fighting on that stage.

I agree, the stage isn't getting enough love right now. I'm glad to see UE can produce vibrant settings. Like all of the backgrounds, though, it seems to be devoid of life (yes, I see the 3 or 4 people in the background). I'm hoping they spice them all up by release time.

She's probably gonna look darker on other stages (or at night, whenever they implement time of day/weather to stages) and we'll all feel foolish

I'm annoyed because:

1. people keep implying I never looked at myself in the mirror or seen anyone from the country I live my entire life and that's why I believe in the things I believe.

2. Also that people keep saying that my problem is with what a true brazillian should look like or how a brazillian should be represented, when I very specifically never said anything that comes close to this.

She looks like a white brazillian girl to me. Again, she looks like my sister, kind of. And I'm white and so is my sister. This is my perception and I don't know if any argument can change how my eyes and brain react to this. Given this perception, I said: "she could be darker" because we live in a country that has this kind of post-race ideal (how far we are from this ideal is open to debate), it felt like a missed opportunity to make a character from a "melting pot" country like Brazil to look like the rest of the cast.

Of course, if you think she already represents diversity, than that's ok, too, it's your perception and there's nothing I can (or want) to do to change that.

Maybe it's because, to me, "latino" is something really only work from a north american perspective. Otherwise the entire country would just be "latino" and be done with it. So I don't know how saying she looks "latina" means anything, when we have white latinos, black latinos, mixed latinos, and so on.

I don't know what to make of people saying "she doesn't look white, she looks latina" like there is this big, obvious distinction. (and again, maybe there is, but since everyone I know is latino, my perception is off).

And I'm genuinely happy there is a brazillian girl on the roster. As silly as it sounds, it is the kind of thing that does makes me feel more part of the world and all that jazz; I'm saying she could have darker skin because, well, she could, and it would be nice; it's not a complaint, it's not a demand, it's not a call to arms, it's a simple, very straightforward statement: Since she comes from a country with so many dark skinned people, she could also have a darker skin, because more diversity in gaming is, in my opinion, a good thing.

You can disagree with that all you like, but disagree with what I am actually saying.

She doesn't look white to me. She looks like she has light brown skin to the point where if she stayed out in the sun some more she would be a little darker like a lot of light brown skinned latinas/latinos. That's different from "white" as in Cammy. That's why some people have said why even want another skin color when there isn't many light brown females to begin with or even males that are light brown in SF.

To put it simply, she doesn't look like Gisele Bundchen does she?

I'm not joking when I say that Christy Mack could have actually been a direct influence on Laura's design. Artists use real people to base their characters on, and I'm sure Japanese have search engines
and watch American porn

I mean...it's not like Christy Mack invented the hairstyle. It's been around...

She doesn't. And that's a good point. And a good post.
Thanks for disagreeing with me in a post that doesn't look insane.

Ton of people in this thread can't tell the difference between rows and a shaved head.

Which adds a little context whenever the subject of fashion comes up in these threads, I guess.

where are the braids, though.

i'm not confused at these theories.
It was meant to be a sarcastic response to the weird Christy Mack comparison since they're not the same hairstyles. One's cornrowed (Laura), the others aren't (Christy, Demi, Lavigne).

Hence lol at the end.

Khushnood Butt is a far better name than the generic Marco Rodriguez.

agreed. Butt is a common South Asian name for anyone wondering. I mean, he wasn't originally designed to be brown, but I'm down with the annexation. badass fucking character.
