iOS Gaming October 2015 | Just when you thought your TV was safe from mobile games

It shows up in my purchase history, but it's probably not fixed yet.

Yeah it's not fixed so it's not on sale yet but glad to know that it's back in the purchased history. Still weird to think that an important number of apps from my 1000+ purchases can vanish at anytime.

Mines of Mars just released a free to play version with ads. I absolutely recommend that game. One of my favorites. Loved every second and then some more. One of the best metroidvania games on iOS.

Download it. https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/id1039955035?mt=8

I'm trying Mines of Mars as we speak and while I find utterly boring the brick picking thing, I like the atmosphere a lot (I assume there is some sort of story down there).

I can't for the life of me craft any item tough....I have the required materials but....what am I supposed to do?
There is no craft button....I tried to tap and swipe everywhere.
Text is bugged too, materials and description overlaps....not sure if there it's supposed to be a button.

Any clue?

Yes, you have to gather material to craft better weapons and gear, and you do that on the surface town, there are a few buildings to upgrade. Just go to the house and an icon should appear, tap it and you should be good to go. Some of the materials are well hidden and others are all over the place. And dont worry about the brick picking thing, the game starts slow but as you upgrade it the speed improves a lot and will become really fast. There are plenty of upgrades that makes the game easier
like a jetpack
. The atmosphere, story, upgrades, setting and bosses are brilliant. The whole game was brilliant. I played it in one setting (8 hours with pauses) with a friend watching by my side and both were delighted by it. Mines of Mars=Awesome.

Edit: I am seeing that there is IAP to unlock the "Base Camp" (the town on the top) for 2$. That's probably the reason you can't find it, the building and crafting happens there. Also IAP to remove ads. Both sum 5$ the price of the paid game. I am thinking about replaying it all over again. But I will reinstall the older version to see if it still work and came back to tell you shortly.

Reading that there's a lot of bugs in Leave Me Alone. Things disappearing. Getting stuck in obstacles. Really surprised because even though the gameplay never really clicked with me (knowing that others would probably like it), the devs really did clean the game up before launch and I had none of the issues above.

Wonder if the wrong version was put out? Or iOS 9 is screwing with it?

Well, as I said, it wasn't really my thing when also considering its 1.3 GB install size. But just thought I'd warn others that it does not sound like it is worth a buy at this point even if it does look good to you.

Edit: Per my post below, there is a fix on the way. Also am more convinced that this is either OS or device related as now even on TA there are people reporting no problems.

I actually have all the materials and I'm inside the crafting building.....just there is no 'craft' button...I think it's a bug.

I am playing it. Need Iron then I will check it out myself and come back to tell you

Edit: Is a bug. I just collected some opal and is not showing on my inventory. I tried to smelt it to then cut it and refine it but not showing on my inventory at all. Its just gone. Going to try to older version now.

Edit 2: The older version works perfectly.

Edit 3: Man I am rusty... Its been a while. Ok now. Ok. Mines of Mars Zero version: In order to craft you need to gather materials. Once you got them, you need to smite minerals and cut gems, as they dont work in their rough forms. They are the two buildings left to the crafting one. Once you have the refined materials you can craft a new pickaxe. That was a trip down memory lane. Got me wanting to replay all over again...

Done everything.
INSIDE the carfting building I can craft a new pick and a new weapon, all the materials needed are checked (in blue) but there is no craft button or nothing to press to actually have the new pick or weapon done.
I've wrote on TA too, and apparently it's a bug (the text is all messed up on iPad Air too).
Not sure if there is supposed to be a button there.

To be honest, for a new release of an old game, I'm pretty underwhelmed by this really trivial bugs...I'm still interested in the game but they aren't surely making it easier.

On my iPhone 6 it works perfectly, just crafted my steel pickaxe. Guess is an iPad related bug. I dont know, Crescent Moon might have the worst beta testers ever (not pointing at awp for example), The Deer God is flawed, Leave Me Alone as well and now ZERO. I kind of pointed out every bug that came up on TA thread during The Deer God beta testing but they didn't solved any. I wonder if they listen to them or the testers themselves are really bad. Not sure but is making them way more harm than good. A pity since Crescent Moon come up with some of the most original ideas on the platform.

Edit: There is a Craft button there, iPhone 6. If you cant see it, is definitely a bug.

Ok thanks....I'll try it on my iPhone then.

Actually...I was just thinking the same....when I posted my iPad Air image on the TA forum, a GM dev saw it and moaned...'ah crap, iPad retina...submitting fix....'
Bug happens all the time, I do not want to put salt on the bruises....but checking all the screen at least on latest iPads and iPhone going back 2 gens would be a bit mandatory imho...expecially for a showcase version of a not so recent game.

I was reading that forum and yes, the pickaxe upgrades makes it faster to mine the land, and eventually you will find a
driller
though upgrading the pickaxe that makes it a walk in the park compared to now. Really fast. The upgrades makes this game shine. One of my favorite metroidvania games ever.

So anyone pick up Dust?

Edit: Mines of Mars sequel in development
http://www.pocketgamer.co.uk/r/Android/Mines+of+Mars+Andromeda/news.asp?c=67828

Yes, I have, and told Twitter and the dev himself what I thought of Dust. Now I need to write something here.

Oh, and that Mines of Mars: Andromeda. YES!!! Holy *** I didn't expect it. Awaiting it. Hype list is now. 1)Super Meat Boy Forever 2)Mines of Mars Andromeda 3)Infinity Blade Dungeons 4) Super Feed Me 5) The new Frogmind game

Huh? I thought this was scraped a while ago. Has the project been revived? When it was originally announced, it was definately at the top of my list of games I was looking forward to.

Ah, no, my list primarily consists of games I really want (want the most) but never get released, just pushed back, and back, and back, or worse. Sorry about that.

Josh from CM Games should be joining us over here. Sounds like there already is a bug fix in the works for Leave Me Alone. But again, I didn't have problems on my Mini like the ones that are being described on TA. So I do wonder if there's some device issues or something else going on.

Also, maybe he can address the Mines of Mars issues. I wasn't involved in beta testing it, but have played the original versions and also didn't experience the issues mentioned by Pitta. It's been a while since I did play it though.

I had a bug in MOM last night where I couldn't fire my gun after the game taught me how to fire. Would pull the right side in every direction and nothing would happen. A restart fixed it, however.

Haven't gotten far enough to see about the crafting bug. Will update.

It's a prequel to the new Heroes show

Looks kinda cool but apparently it's 2.3 GB installed so I won't b getting it anytime soon.

Also, The Silver Bullet is down to $.99. If you don't have it, you should check it out. One man effort and a quite impressive and unique dual stick shooter. Central character kind of reminds me of Joanna Dark. Sci-fi adventure with really varied missions. Difficulty can be a little uneven at times and a little rough around the edges, but well worth a buck.

The gameplay videos from that heroes game look promising. Seems like a good puzzle game with gorgeous, UE enhanced, graphics.
The combination of switching between two timelines, slowing down time and telekinetic powers should create an interesting challenge.

A Good Snowman is Hard to Build is coming along quite nicely and is a really good fit for the platform. The controls are really intuitive!

^^^Hey, you're testing A Good Snowman too? Got the TF invite yesterday. Enjoying it so far

---

Picked up Heroes. It's pretty good. The levels are kind of short, but the difficulty starts increasing around levels 8-9. There are 32 levels, I'm up to 17 at the moment after about an hour and change

The controls are quite good, which surprised me. I even like the tap to move control scheme and I usually dislike those in first person games

Seamless switching between time periods is really cool

Off topic, but if you have an Android, they are running a $. 10 sale on a bunch of games (mostly EA and Chillingo).

Games of note include Dead Space (which still runs fine on the latest Android OS but apparently is still being pulled in the near future), Contre Jour, Bloodstroke and most surprisingly, the recently released Power Ping Pong among others.

Any recommendations of any Sokoban style games?
Ideally character based like Adventures of Lolo on NES.

I greatly enjoyed Furdemption, but its 'hell' aesthetic really grates after a while.
Lara Croft Go and Monument Valley were amazing, but I didn't like Hitman Go at all.

You could check out Lith which is a bit like a Sokoban-style game. Otherwise, there used to be a good sokoban game that I played a long long time ago on iOS. Can't remember the name though but it was at the beginning of the appstore.

Pudding Monsters was also quite fun.

Regarding that podcast app discussion from a few weeks back, the Overcast 2.0 update is out and it's awesome. All of the features are now free with an option to donate to the developer. Streaming is in, etc. So good.

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/overcast-podcast-player/id888422857?mt=8
Is there an option to mark podcasts as unplayed without downloading them yet? I have big podcast backlogs so can't really switch unless I know I can work my way through a podcast's history without having them all downloaded in advance.

I dont really play this genre (was a Magic player a long time ago, my time with card games is over) but I heard great things about Card Crawl.

I'm thinking of getting Pocket Casts since it has cross platform syncing. I have an iPhone privately and a Samsung Galaxy S5 for work. That means I have to buy the app for both platforms though.
Are there any other alternatives with cross-platform syncing?
Have some of you tried Pocket Casts

I use Pocket Casts currently, it's very solid. I'd definitely recommend it.

I actually went with Pocket Casts over Overcast, because I liked PC's UI more

It's pretty solid, haven't had any problems with it
