Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain |OT2| A Franchise Robbed Of Its Future

This game is rather hard to screenshot during cutscenes. Steam and Afterburner are both too slow to capture the in-motion camera/characters and the images often come out blurred or a second too late, which is a shame as the game looks stellar on ultra.

Rock solid 60fps be praised though.

Done with the
Nuke
. No more resource grinding left, just missions. Finally.

Okay how these no damage trophies work? Just beat ch7
Megatron fight
without taking any damage (result screen showed 0) and the trophy didn't pop. Can't use checkpoints?

Use Quiet and ask her to scout the right thread. :p

Sorry if a bit long but here are my thoughts on the ending after the second run…

People speculate about why BB sent Snake to Outer Heaven in MG1 and a lot say that he was just sent there and wasn’t supposed to succeed so I paid attention to this aspect the second time around.

I think the answer might lie what happens in MG1 and in what Ocelot says in TPP:

“In his mind that past no longer exists. Your past is his past now. He's going to be your phantom. Not some simple diversion - he'll act as the new Big Boss. And the act just isn't for Cipher – he'll be your face on the world stage. Until the time comes for your resurgence.”

“Nine years ago in that helicopter, he threw himself between you and the blast. In that moment, the man you knew died. He died protecting you. And now, by becoming you, he protects you again. This is just a detour in his journey to Hell.”

And the ending credits conversation he says:

“Sooner or later there will be only one Big Boss. There’s only room for one Big Boss.”

Then you factor in the fact that Venom was pissed when he listens to the tape Operation N2313 and punches the mirror while all bloody, with gun fire being heard in the background.

So taking the above into account and other things, I think that MG1 was Big Boss's time for his “resurgence” and his goal was to get rid of Venom because “there’s only room for one Big Boss”. If BB was ready to proceed with his plan to form a military nation then Venom needed to disappear. After all, the “real” Venom died protecting Big Boss in the helicopter and becoming BB’s phantom was “just a detour in his journey to hell”.

That’s why Venom was so pissed when listening to the tape, he listens to it when shit has hit the fan, so he was given the tape when it was too late to do anything and his fate was sealed. He was basically used for 10 years and then erased when he was no longer needed by his “friend”.

Also, Operation N313 was a follow up to Operation N312 (where Grey Fox was sent in first but failed), it was then that Solid Snake was sent in and he accomplished his mission with a lot of help from the real Big Boss.

Throughout this SS doesn’t know who the legendary mercenary that leads Outer Heaven is until the very end.

Considering the above and how pissed Venom was, him revealing himself as Big Boss to Solid Snake was most likely his final “fuck you” to the real Big Boss. It directly compromised BB’s position as leader of Fox Hound and forced him underground.

Big Boss intended to get rid of Venom and take over from his side as well but he didn’t foresee Venom blowing his cover and also didn’t know that NATO would bomb Outer Heaven to destroy all evidence. So in the end he only ended up salvaging what little was left of Venom’s forces after the bombing.

Man, I really wanna read that post, BadWolf; talking about MGS is one of my favorite parts of the whole series. Gotta finish the game though; just finished mission
43, and I'm pretty much emotionally destroyed. What a powerful sequence.

Just do some SideOps and listen to yellow tapes. And no
Butterfly Emblem only prevents Episode 45 which is a sidestory. You can get Episode 46 without getting 45.

Yeah that was amazing, easily one of the best moments in the series. The little details like
the cross hairs slowly disappearing and BB averting his eyes if you hold the gun up and wait
were such a great touch. And all the stuff
the soldiers were saying to and about BB
just got me real good. Made worse by the fact that up to that point I hadn't
killed much of anyone at all, so my first killing spree was against my very own men :(

Do side ops to progress the story further. The butterfly will prevent you from finishing a certain character's story, not the game's.

That, combined with the fact that Huey is constantly screaming at you over the radio, really hit me. Definitely sold the whole "descent into hell" motif that they've been pushing the whole game.

I wish I had known this 2 days ago before I started
Side OP 150.

Now I'm stuck on
Mission 45. Had I known you could have done Mission 46 AND keep Quiet, I would have kept the Butterfly emblem on.
Thank goodness I have a
backup save with Quiet data.

Correct me if I'm wrong?

Just download the backup save and remove the emblem only once mission 45 is the only one you need to do in order to get 100%. I am still super pissed about the whole
losing Quiet thing as I didn't have any idea that would happen so I didn't have backup save.

Yeah, I'll have to do that. Thanks for the info.

Hopefully sometime in the future they'll
patch her back in. Or add her back in as DLC
Hopefully for free lol.

Hopefully but I really doubt that they will. Don't know if I would put any money down for it though.

Third time's the charm. Be sure to check the Customize tab in the ACC after beating the Legendary Gunsmith #3 Side Op.

Very much worth it in the end.

Make sure to develop/upgrade smaller weapons near the top of each development page. The gunsmith allows gun customization in the ACC, and that includes underbarrel attachments for grenade launchers (damage, smoke, etc.), shotguns (normal, double barrel sawed off), and more.

Ok, just got him, i ended up capturing the outpost rofl. Actually, i'm having more fun with sideops than main ones , no ranks pressure, totally free to try cool strategies.

Guys, can you tell how to install this mod?^^

D dog is awesome but is there any way to tell if the enemy will be aggresive towards him or just leave him alone? I was doing really well sneaking around then the enemy just started shooting him for no reason. I felt so bad for him I had to retaliate and blow my cover. I assume i must have done something to cause them to shoot because i thought they ignore him for the most part.

Also the upgrade that gives ddog a knife, is there a way to use the non lethal "keep em busy" while still having him suited up, seems like thats replaced with only the lethal variant..

All in all one of the key things Kojima did with MGSV is
to remind people that Big Boss was a villain, most didn’t really see him as all that bad after playing as him in MGS3 and beyond. But in the end Kojima brings things back full circle and solidifies the fact that BB was an asshole whose ‘legend’ was built on the backs of others.

This also extends to the MGS series as a whole since it was falling into the trap of
giving reasonable justification for the actions of a lot of the characters in the universe so in the end no one seemed all that bad aside from the Pariot AI and Zero. This again is addressed in MGSV by introducing a new full on villain like Skull Face and POS characters like Huey.

You had me until "Kojima reminded people Big Boss is a villain", nobody was saying: "omg Big Boss is such a hero!", except Kojima.

D-Dog is so damn useful, excellent for spotting enemies and pretty great as a distraction.

I was behind a wall carrying a prisoner once and the guard almost made it around to spot us but of his on accord D-Dog runs ahead and bumps into the guard for the save. Felt like a true bro.

I meant the perception that people had of BB after MGS3 and the games that followed, people definitely felt sympathetic towards BB after those entries.

I've never had anyone shoot D-Dog unless I told him to attack someone. Usually guards just try shoo him away.

You get non-lethal version of the suit at some point. You can't have both options at the same time though. It is either lethal or non-lethal.

Thanks! Do the other suits provide him with any additional protection or hp?

D-Walker's intercept head gets in the way of aiming. If it weren't for that,
fulton cannon
+reflex mode would be even better.

If there a mod to use multiple buddies at once

Probably going to try to finish this up tonight, really excited to see what the ending is. I think I've got the twist figured out, but definitely looking forward to seeing how it develops and figuring out the justification and reasoning behind it. I will say that I'm a little nervous given the bad rap that the ending's got on GAF, but we'll see!

Gotta see what the deal with Paz is as well, that's some weird shit.

Today I googled Super Mario 64 for no real reason and had a realization that it's structured very similarly to MGS V. Castle, Mother Base. Giant levels (SM64 relative to its time) with required and optional missions. The missions also force/encourage you to explore every bit of the map. I'm sure there are more similarities but I just thought it was interesting to see two vastly different games take a similar approach to world design.

haha yeah... coming in hot, boss, watch out. rocket salvo, rocket salvo.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_sbVE7RIeV4

rocket salvo rocket salvo is maybe my favorite radio chatter to hear
It's really cool. Hearing the lock-on tone then firing it up. Boom boom boom.. haha

Now the AS Missiles on the other hand, they don't seem to work (at least in my playthroughs). I attached them to Pequod, called him for support, but nada. He just uses the guns.

D Dog can work better than Quiet imo.

He marks every enemy for you, prisoners hidden in places Quiet can't spot etc, and then you can snipe them yourself if you so please.

Though, I've gotta say, I think I'm done with the game, or I just need a break.

Finished the story, managed to get to 60% completion, but I'm just done with the grind, repetitive side ops, annoying optional mission tasks, waiting on resources for base expansions, stupid timers on everything etc. I just can't take it anymore, and it sucks because the base gameplay is really great, but everything around it just holds the game back.

For a second I thought you were installing the mod to suffocate Quiet, thank God you're just doing something innocent.

For the weapon customisation thing, it should work like compiling any other Cheat Engine table; but you might run into trouble getting it to work with the most recent updates, since they patched the initial weapon customisation glitch. What have you done so far, and where are you having problems?

Received this message during a cutscene yet have been in offline mode the entire game. Didn't seem like any resources were missing following, though I did see the thread about the FOB 'offline tax'.

For patch 1.04, Konami is separating the resources to offline and online, which is a bummer since you can't sell the online one but not the end of the world. What irritates me the most is they also do the same for the money and I can't find the amount I have. I'm assuming those money will be spent on FOB security cost and sooner or later my GMP will be in the red.
