He just wants it to play on PS5 so this version is for exactly this guy.

Grabbed MGS1 off PSN for the 5. $20 which is great BUT the MSX versions of Metal Gear 1 and 2 are included which I wasn’t expecting at all. Pretty good score.

Firing up MGS1 is such pure feels. This game WAS 11th grade for me in 1998. It just sucked me and my friends in so hard. Nothing else like it. It really was the birth of cinematic gaming on consoles.

Wat. MG1 is one of the best games ever in production values alone. The soundtrack is amazing & the voice actors chew the scenery (Especially Liquids) - I've been replaying it in duckstation and I forgot just how good it was, even if it really is just a sequence of bossfights in a row.

You are talking about Metal Gear Solid, released in 1998. We are talking about Metal Gear 1, released in 1987. If you like MGS1 you should check out MG2:SS (1980) which is about the Zanzibar Incident.

Think I'm going to wait for the next round of patches before playing through MGS2/MGS3. Hopefully all of these random bugs are fixed and other issues like brightness are adjusted.

Sounds like this game really could have used another month or two in the oven for cooking, the same way they delayed Arkham Trilogy on Switch.

Just started playing MGS2 after finishing the first game.

It is unbelievable how lazy this PC port is. They should pay the guy who made a resolution patch because he probably did more work on this shit than the people who actually got paid to do the job, lol.

Part of me is wondering if this is a new strategy going forward.
  1. Release poorly optimized popular game.
  2. Let modders fix it.
  3. Take the modders' hard work and use it as the basis for a future patch.
  4. Profit.

It has worked for Bethesda for a very long time, no surprise others would follow.

What did modders do ? I’m waiting for a modder to create native or upscale resolution support for 4K.

Are we there yet ?

What? I didn't even know you could exit the game with shoulder buttons.
Yeah save through codec and just exit the game via Steam Overlay. You won’t have your saved data. You have to save and then press L1+R1 to exit. You have to do those two things each time you quit the game or your saves are gone. It’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen.

It keeps the last save you did when you exited the game through the menu. It’s still stupid. PS3 emulation was better.

Oh I'm playing on Playstation. Idk if that's a thing.

I finished the game last night on Steam. I just save and alt+F4 out. I never lost my saves so it must be something else

Whats crazy is that I think I've been saving like that the entire time without even knowing. Save through the codec then exit out through L+R menu. I have no idea if that is actually what you have to do but it's coincidentally how I save and exit MGS1 everytime.

Unless it's Rockstar Games, then Step 3 is send C&D and Step 4 is sue the modders.

Not seeing this on nexus ? I see some textures updated but that’s about it.
It's all over Steam forums and guides. Just make sure to use the updated version (v 0.6 or something like that) because lots of people are spamming the earlier version which didn't scale the UI properly.

EDIT: Here you go: https://github.com/Lyall/MGSHDFix/releases
Looks like they even updated it again since yesterday, lol.

Why would you play anything without patches and updates?
Cuz I wasn't born in the 2010's and I have at least the expectation for the game itself to function out of the box like back in the day,you know...considering they also upped the asking price "to provide a premium experience" This industry has become so fucked up with normalizing broken releases that people have begun to stan for day1 patches lmao

Looking at this mod I can see why devs kind of did not touch it (Konami certainly did not pay enough 😂). “Post processing kind of broken at higher resolutions”, “cutscenes stretched at non 16:9 resolutions”, etc… still it is a mod by amateurs or people working in their spare time, but not something you want to ship to customers. This needed a lot more work and specialised people Konami did not want to hire.

Been playing in 4k using this patch and the only thing I noticed is that the little video interference that sometimes happens on character portraits in codec convos is at a different size than the actual portrait. Which isn't even a big deal because it's just a minor visual glitch that's barely even noticeable. Other than that the game's been running flawlessly for me.

Do you need a PS2 memory card too?

Is this running any better on Steam Deck yet? I'd only want the second and third games as I'm playing MGS1 through DuckStation which is unbelievably good.

I already own 2 and 3 on 360 but would really like to play these handheld. Otherwise if the ports are bad I may just try emulating them through EmuDeck.

You can change the resolution with one simple hex change, it's bizarre that they didn't at least give you the option to do this, the functionality is literally already in the game

Is 'That Pure Potato'
I bought this as I have three days off so I needed something more than Spider-Man to do. This is probably the most oddly put together port / remaster in history.

Anyways, this intro to Solid 1 is like the greatest intro to a 2003 action movie ever.

Maybe it's those little UI and VFX issues that people who used the unofficial patch reported. Because, you know, optimising and fixing these issues sounds like A LOT of work, and there's no way anyone has time to do that. No way, what do you think this is? You paid 60 dollars and you expect that someone would actually work on these games? All the budget already went towards the tacky launcher menus!

Don't worry, they will give the game "No Man Sky" treatment as almost all companies do these days. Release a half assed game and then patch it and hear the community and work hard all these year and redemption and all that bs.

That would be great for a Konami release, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

All I was saying was games without day 0 patches usually play pretty wonky.
