Metal Gear Solid Master Collection |OT| Les Ports Terribles

Guess I shouldn't be surprised but the physical Switch version requires a download which kind of makes it pointless.

There will be inevitable framepacing issues like we saw with PS1 classics from Sony on PS4/PS5. PS3 supports 50 Hz output but newer consoles don't.

The fun fact is that all newest TVs still play 50 Hz content perfectly fine, doesn't matter if they're bought in EU or US or anywhere else. The only problem is the console not supporting this refresh rate.
Thanks so I got lucky I bought USA version. But if it only runs at 30fps why does it need to refresh above 30hz? Or is the minimum a TV refreshes is 60hz so anything that doesn't divide into that looks a bit off?

Many TVs simly don't support anything different than 50 and 60 Hz, 50/60 are the standard and the rest is optional. And you need refresh rate to be equal or multiple of frame rate otherwise there will be tearing or uneven framepacing.

Why would you play anything without patches and updates?

1.) This isn't a patch or an update but a mandatory download to get the games to run in the first place.
2.) There are games released that don't receive day one patches or updates. Examples: New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe, WarioWare: Get It Together, Metroid Prime Remastered

I'm just giving you a hard time. It's just a seemingly increasing trend.

Controls take some getting used to but they’re the same as they always were, they’re completely fine.
No, they are not. There's a significant input delay that makes some actions unnecessarily difficult to perform (aiming with a sniper rifle is just the worst, for example).

I played this game like 75 billion times in various forms over the years, I know what I'm talking about dude.

Alright, so I buy only a couple of games a year. This year I choose Metal Gear, Mario RPG, and Legend Bowl.

We can all hate on Konami. This is the first time I have played Metal Gear Solid since 1998. (I never got far). Regardless if it is a perfect port (it isn’t). It is HIGHLY playable and currently the best way to play the game. I recommend anyone buy this is they are interested in playing the old games on a modern console.

I will add… IF Nintendo and Konami could agree to fix Twin Snakes and upgrade it to HD. Maybe give it the ReMake 2 treatment. That would be a hell of an option. Even as a standalone title.

i noticed the button changes during an MGS1 CODEC call... it says "select button" but the text was "Touch Pad" :messenger_tears_of_joy::messenger_tears_of_joy:

You are angrily complaining on an adult toy forum that the makers of your adult toys, which you played a quarter century ago, did not work hard enough.

If a child's toy has a bad mold and completely fucked up paint job yet still costs the same as a real ass action figure. Then it sucks.

Adult toys, on the other hand...real adults just eat any shit served them without asking questions right?

It’s already beginning!

I don’t have the game to test but supposedly MGS 2 has some UI issues but 3 works alright.

Tested and working on MGS3. edit: but i don't know if the injector disable something on the fx pipeline.

What a shit show from Konami, they didn't even up res the logos on the main menu. The game even display a "MGS HD collection 2011" on the main menu.

I keep hearing about how buggy and underwhelming the PC version is, but how is the PS5 version? I'm interested in owning physical copies of the first five Metal Gear games

Hype Train conductor. Works harder than it steams.
Anyone else didn't get the Pre-order bonus?
I've seen some with day one edition stickers on it but mine doesn't have that 😕

btw to all the newbies here (all like two of you) you can instantly reload your weapon by tapping the shoulder button (R1 in mgs1, R2 in mgs2/3). This works in all three games and is an intended game mechanic called Tactical Reload.

This is pretty cool:

I already own a couple from the original run but I might need to re-up come January. As for the collection, I look forward to diving in sometime within the next couple of months and taking a trip down memory lane. These are 3 of the greatest games of all time, their impact and influence on the gaming industry is *immeasurable*. If you somehow haven't played these masterpieces then make it a priority, you'll understand why the mad genius Kojima is so revered and respected.

Can’t run MGS capped at 30 fps on Steam Deck. I just turned frame cap to off. Menus were fine, but that classic intro tune was struggling at 30 fps. Booting MGS up on PS1 was truly something special.

PSA: For anyone playing this on Switch on an LG OLED TV, you can make MGS2 & MGS3 run in a "faux" 60FPS by turning on the TV's TruMotion feature in the settings.

Ymmv, but it does work with most (stable) 30fps games.

I want to revisit these games so badly but seeing all these negative impressions about the crappy job that Konami has done on the collection, I think I'll withhold until some big sale.

If you've not played them in over a decade and you didn't play the HD Collection versions then these are still good since for MGS2 and MGS3 it's the HD Collection versions with a few fixes, just the downside being that it renders in 720p. For MGS1 though, DusckStation emulator will give you a much better experience.

Not this crap again. It's still 30fps,you obviously have no idea what this setting actually does.

You could do that with any 30fps game. I wouldn't bother though, it will look really weird and you'll get really noticeable input delay.

Yeah.. Don't do this. You may aswell be using a carrier pigeon as an input device as it'd have the same level of input lag as using motion interpolation

Lol "Faux" 60fps. I'm fully aware of what's actually happening when you turn on the setting...and so what if your eye still perceives it as running smoother.

I'm just letting people know if they are curious or don't care and want to see it running smoother on their screen (particularly cutscenes). Oh, and input lag has rarely ever been a problem for me using it...but like I said, Ymmv. People have used it before with little to no problems on their end.

So played through Metal Gear fine, man I forgot how hard this game actually is and how cryptic on where to go, still worth a playthrough and completed in about 2 hours

Emulation wise, it was fine, nothing I could see that wasn't perfect, this was the MSX version as well
