Super Mario Maker |OT| Miyamoto Simulator 2015

New level.

Mario's Grand Vertical Adventure
CB93-0000-0071-25B3

Liked this level a lot. The way you gave the illusion of verticality is great, I also enjoyed finding the secret area.

Let me repost to see if anybody fancies giving my level a go:

Thwomp's wood Chomp-ing facility

3FC7-0000-00AC-D2F8

I really like the sense of exploration you gave the level. One problem I can see is that the doors can be kind of confusing, as I sometimes made a tricky jump to a door only to go backwards through the level. Other then that, great job!

I got some good feedback on my last level but i have no idea why so many people were unable to finish it, though most of the people who did finish it loved it . Any insight as to why?

Let me know what you think guys. Thank you!

Holy complex level batman! It's clear a ton of work went into this. I think I finished it? But I panicked at the chainchomp and walked off the helmet :p

That was pretty much the end though, right?

Alright guys, live now at my channel ! Sorry about the delay !

Glad you liked my level (Overgrown Ruins), starred it and also followed me. Very kind of you. You rock/rocked the stream. Keep up your good work of entertaining.

Wish I could have joined the conversation in the chat. Unfortunately the whole live-streaming is disabled here in Germany, so I had to use a proxy to get the video-footage. No chat tho.

Anyhow, I watched your stream in 60/720p without any interruptions. (Mario jumped when you say so). That's nice.

i dont know how it took you so long to realize you have to put the POW blocks to climb up :x by the time you figured it out the time was over :( i even put the pipe right at the entrance so you know where to go!

in general i noticed you were overthinking my level lol! i was thinking of doing this, but now i think i will do it later today is i will be streaming my levels and go over the thought process of how i made them.

all you had to do was destroy the blocks above and take the P switch down and you would have finished the level easily btw :)

and im not a troll :p

thanks for playing though. wished you finished it :)

also your stream kept buferring on laptop, mobile, and ps4. the only reason i was able to watch this time was because i remembered that youtube gaming has a rewind function, so i rewinded 30 sec and was able to see everything in HD and NO buffering at all.

you are the only person this happens to me btw. youtube or twitch

Loved your level! Great sense of exploration and really well thought out!! I loved how you use just pirahnas and the atmosphere is very very fitting.

Heya guys, so the archived video of my last play through is up. HD version is being processed right now and should be available in a bit. Here is the list of stages I've played today. Thank you guys for all submitting your stages for me to play. I'm sorry I am not able to complete all of them due to my lack of Mario ability. I often panic and do silly things, then get real salty. As always, NeoGAF stages never disappoint and are very well done.

Unfortunately I'm not the brightest person playing Mario usually lol. I have my share of DERP moments especially today because I am extra tired ! I guess it just looked more obvious to me to place the POW block on the spike and then after I got to the thwomp parts, I saw the P switch up there. So I tried several times to do the risky spin jump that I'm not too super confident in. Anyways, it is indeed a puzzling stage ! Doesn't the bomb in the sub-area come out already lit ? Guess I should have carried it by jumping on top of the flaming stick platform and blow up the P-switch platform in order to bring it down ? It is also unfortunate you still have problem viewing my live stream. Most others can view it fine, so I wonder if it has something to do with 60fps ? I don't think a lot of other streamers do that.

Great level! The theme is really well put together, and the length and difficulty are spot on for good players to enjoy and new players not to be overwhelmed.

The only thing that had me confused was the boxes at the very beginning. I just figured you had to ride them and died. It might be good to add an arrow to the door or even some coins.

Thanks! I needed the blocks to go back up SOMEWHERE for the entire conveyor belt section to work and it was unfortunately always gonna be in the player's way. I tried many different placements and the very beginning seemed like the best compromise, simply because I figured that if players DO ride them up immediately and then die, it won't feel like much of a punishment, considering it's at the very start. Though it is not optimal, I agree with you there.

I have an intense dislike for arrows. 90% of the time they are a concession of level design failure to me. Except for some rare and notable cases they should not be necessary. However, you might be right on this one and I should have just overcome my stubborn disposition and placed an arrow there.

Speaking of arrows, I just played your latest course "Thwomp's wood Chomp-ing facility" :p Despite the amount of clutter and the excessive sfx, I actually really enjoyed this level! I can't say I always knew where I was going or coming from, haha, but it never felt unfair and had quite a good flow to it.

I enjoyed this one, I died a few times right before the 2nd area of hard hats. The only thing I didn't like was the gating at the beginning where you had to wait around a little bit to get through certain obstacles. I really liked how you made the whole level look like a construction zone.
Thank you! Would you mind elaborating on what part felt like gating to you?

Liked this level a lot. The way you gave the illusion of verticality is great, I also enjoyed finding the secret area.

Thanks! ;)

no they dont come out lit.the light up when they touch the fire.

also just get the bomb and blow up the blocks and get the P switch. it was that easy and simple. once you have the p switch then the level is 1/2 over already

also i dont know why the stream buffers only with you, and i watch all kinds of different streams and videos of high quality and this rarely happens to me and almost always happens with you.

when i rewinded your live stream by 30 sec everything was perfect for me. hell i even clicked live after watching it on the 30 sec delay and everything was perfect.

but before i rewinded it was buffering for like 15 min. and i cant rewind on twitch :\

Mmh, interesting. It flows quite well, I like how it plays, how it looks too. Good challenge as well. Lol at the ending.
Was the Golden Mario the ? Block Mario? Or is it something else!

Neat small challenge. If there's anything I'd need to comment negatively on, it's the last puzzle. Not
how you need bob-ombs from the higher route to break one of the blocks, but the difficulty of entering in that small part right on the pole without being hit intentionally by Bob-ombs and becoming small again. That can be very difficult. I suppose it would've been better if the Bob-ombs could break two blocks, one of them right on the top of the pole. Thus, moving the two blocks one unit down
. Aside from that, the rest is layed out decently enough.

Finally beat Expert Mode for the first time last night. Had about 40 lives left. I don't know if it was because I was becoming a better player or if the Expert level pool had gotten more doable levels here and there.

Got the Foreman Spike costume. I would've loved to have this for my Mine and Cave themed levels. I benefit from this.

I'm glad you enjoyed it. The scripted events that take place in the level were very frustrating to get working consistently, but I'm pleased that I got those things to work 100% of the time.

Hey guys :)

I've been very impressed by a lot of the GAF created levels, I must admit!
Been starring and following quite a few over these past few weeks, and now I finally decided to make a few levels of my own!

It's quite different from the usual platforming levels, though, and I guess I tried to make more of an atmospheric adventure experience than an actual Mario level, and it's quite long and maybe overly polished and detailed at times, but... I hope some of you will give it a try, along with my other stage as well! :)

(1-4) Junior Airship Showdown (1B6D-0000-00A3-FD76)

Continuing on from High and Dry Dock, Mario boards a massive airship and has a confronts Bowser Jr.

Jr. takes to the skies and chases Mario down with bob-ombs and bullseye bills.

Perhaps the engine room isn't the best place for a final encounter...

DUDE! I just played this. You broke Mario Maker. Holy fuck! And I mean that in the best possible way. Everyone should play this level. Two checkpoints with passwords (which I did need), scripted events/cutscenes and two cleverly scripted boss battles and all sorts of other crazy exploits. It's all a bit insane and I didn't always know 100% what was going on, but damn it, it's one hell of a ride!

After spending countless hours making a workable cape-centered level (And I haven't honestly seen a better one in SMM yet!), I'm glad to be back with a simpler level focusing entirely on platforming. It only took me about 5 hours to fine-tune this one. And with Planet 1-7, World 1 of Super Mario Planets is finished. Well not exactly, I'm going to make one last pass on a few of them.

In this level, every planetoid is a letter of the alphabet!

Also, reposting the best cape level yet (Until proven otherwise! :p), it requires all the cape mechanics of SMW:

Ragnarok makes some amazing levels, with lots of contraptions offscreen to achieve what Mario Maker wouldn't normally allow.

This airship level is probably his most complex one, but the latest revision of Boo's Plumbing Nightmare also does some crazy stuff.

New level.
This one turned almost into an (unintended) sequel to my Grand Vertical Adventure course. It has a pretty moderate difficulty curve, a bit of an adventurous feel and features quite a bit of verticality.

Doesn't need any feedback, it's perfect already! Excellent presentation as always but also a nice challenge with a few original obstacles for good measure!

Very nice exploration level. It's very long but it doesn't matter that much since it's very hard to die (I did die stupidly and thus didn't complete the level but I think I saw a good chunk of it)
Maybe you overdid it a little with the sound effects.

Very Rhythm Heaven-like. Why did it have to me so short? It needs to be developed to a full fledged level!

I'm very very pleased with how this level turned out. First time I planned a level out on paper, and I think it turned out really well. It's everything I've wanted to do in level but never felt I could before, which is making a traditional style level that uses many different mechanics without feeling chaotic or overwhelming. Normally I make traditional style levels that focus on a single idea.

Anyways,hopefully ye like it!

I liked it, looks almost straight out of SMW, maybe it lacks a certain linearity.

Really loved this one! No complaints. Starred and followed! One of the best sky level I've played yet. I felt the "verticality" much more than other levels that try to concentrate exclusively on it. Well done!

If you could try my level above, I'll appreciate it!

Thank you! Would you mind elaborating on what part felt like gating to you?

The Part with the 4 torches on the conveyor belt near the beginning. Unless I missed something you just had to wait for each one to fire before you could move on since they were on alternating cycles. It was the only obstacle in the level that I didn't like.

I´ve finally finished a new level, this one´s taken me a lot of time and some serious planning on paper..I even had to scratch everything and restart from zero a couple of times!

Behold...RtDL4: Wiggler´s Steampunk Tree!
7F1D-0000-00A7-F9EB
WVW69ieyRN03qeB6eC

Mario has finally reached the Wiggler´s tree! The trre´s so high it gets lost between the clouds with no ending in sight. Mario must enter this giant and climb to the top to continue on his journey, but strange sounds come from within...What will Mario find inside this goliath?

This course is a vertical level in which you have to choose from one of 2 possible paths to climb to the top of the tree.
But then, you´ll have to rush down through the other path to activate the elevator that will truly take you to the top!
. Each path focuses in different mechanics (conveyor belts and springs) with Wrigglers getting in your way and crossovers between all mechanics in certain spots.

With this, the first world of Return to Dinosaur Land is finished! You can now download all levels and play them as a whole world (and all of this is free of charge!):

** Spotlight alert **

Ok, I played for a second time this level, taking the right path this time, and it's only then you understand the brilliance of it and the intricacy of its design.
Sure it's confusing at first, but give it a try, you'll be blown away by the thoughts that went into it. It's like watching Fight Club a second time!

My newest creation.

"Wall Jump Mayhem!"

I tried to make this as middle of the road in difficulty as possible. Tried to have different challenges with the Wall jumping mechanic. I think It came out great!

Also, "Heeeere's MONTY....mole!" has become my quickest popular level online. Here it is for anyone who missed it. Not as hard as it looks.

Feedback time!

Doesn't need any feedback, it's perfect already! Excellent presentation as always but also a nice challenge with a few original obstacles for good measure!

Thank you! :D

The Part with the 4 torches on the conveyor belt near the beginning. Unless I missed something you just had to wait for each one to fire before you could move on since they were on alternating cycles. It was the only obstacle in the level that I didn't like.

Ah I see. Yeah, that can happen unfortunately depending on how the bricks spawn and align in that section. It's possible to get a pretty good flow through there if you're lucky. Track sections are difficult to get right when they feature a lot of elements. I think I will probably mostly avoid them in the future.

I made a new level already. For people familiar with my usual courses this will be a bit of a departure. Sorry, no grand themes, narratives or crazy twists. Just kind of a cute gimmick and an obstacle course built around it. :p

Hey thanks for playing my levels. I actually watched the stream on my Wii U. And honestly, I think your Mario skills are pretty great. You handled "The Thwomping Siege at the Keep!" pretty well! Even thought of a way around both most of the Thwomps and Bowser. I was impressed.

The Flying Megalith was probably the hardest course I've made yet. After an hour of testing every route, I wanted to make sure that every route is passable as both tiny and big Mario, but would still require some work to get through.

I seen that you had trouble at the start of it. Your method is good, but something to make things easier is to wait for the first bullet bills to go by then jump. It should be clear for you keep going.

As for the Star... Heh. Well... That was a mistake turned cruel joke. I originally had it up there because that section was supposed to have three Hammer Bros up there, but it prove to be a bit too hectic and I replaced them with a Sledge Bro. So while it's not that hard to get it now, it's practically useless. Just a cruel joke the invincibility can't save you here. >:)

Just created one based on a concept I quite like; time consuming but I think could be fun if done with more complexity and using the time mechanic more.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Hey thanks for trying it! To pass that section you're stuck in:
spin jump on the thwomps! :)
Hope you can try and clear the level, I'm glad you enjoyed it so far.

I finally completed it, despite not using the spin
based invincibility frames
. I can confirm the good impressions from my earlier's playthrough.

Well, since I'm already here, another Mpl90's Random Feedback time!

Good level, with a strong SMW-feeling that makes it better because it feels more like a new level for SMW, and not a copy-and-paste of other SMW levels. Fun to play, good layout...a good job overall.

Subterranean Pipeworks

(4B00-0000-00AA-FC25)

This was very, very well built. I love how you
meticulously reproduced the parts of the sections right after the pipe jump. Since pipes send you to the other plane, it really needs a lot of work to reproduce the parts after the jump and make them "believable". Whenever I see that in a level, I always appreciate it
. Also, quite a maze but not an impossible one. Very fun, great job.

Mario's Platforming Challenge
(75B4-0000-00AA-670A)

This level, damn it, so difficult. It's very challenging, but I fear it can be less challenging and more frustrating in specific parts.
Mainly, right at the beginning, especially if you want to get that Mushroom, it's a harsh beginning, that could make players less willing to give a shot to the rest of the level if they keep on dying there
. There are some parts that could be more considered as frustrating, but that's the biggest one by far. I couldn't complete it yet,
I almost reached the door in the trails segment, but a bullet killed me right before I could enter. The sadness.
I hope to complete it soon, since it's a real challenge, that could be made less obtrusive, but still quite well made.

Long.Live.Mario: 2377-0000-00AD-3E88

The beginning can be a bit frustrating, especially
how it seems you need the Mushroom to break the blocks. I know there's a hidden one right in that section, but I don't know where should the player go to catch it and how, given the layout of the level. Or maybe I'm wrong...I'd like to hear from you on the matter. Still, without the Mushroom, you can't go on, you need to restart. You should give a better second possibility for the Mushroom
. The rest of the level is decent enough, despite being a bit small.

The Hills Have Shells.

2E2E-0000-00AE-7F0C

I tried to beat it, but there's a major issue:
the section with the pipe, the Goomba and the Mole. The segment where you need to create a bit of momentum to jump on the other platforms is way, waaaay to small.
It's almost impossible, it's really frustrating. And
bonus area sending you back to that segment, after you obtained to reach those mushroom platforms once...the frustration! :lol.
. There are also
random Goombas falling from the sky
, those can be obnoxious (or obneoxonius, as you'd prefer). You should really need to fix those.

That's it. As always, if you want to check out and give me feedbacks on my levels, my MarioMakerHub's page - http://www.mariomakerhub.com/makers/MarcoP90

Thanks for playing my level and the feedback.
You're not supposed to enter that part. You can just shoot the Bob-omb down there and stand back out of the way.

Created this Quick-Select-Wall for my levels. And also a small teaser for me next level.
You can click on any on this pictures to reach a certain post of mine, where the levels are separated and the level codes are copyable.

Anyhow, will play some more levels from this thread later this evening.

Really loved this one! No complaints. Starred and followed! One of the best sky level I've played yet. I felt the "verticality" much more than other levels that try to concentrate exclusively on it. Well done!

If you could try my level above, I'll appreciate it!

Thanks! My favorite levels are those that feel like they were pulled from the original game so that's what I was going for. I'll play yours tonight.

Anyone noticed that the community in general can't seem to grasp the concept of springs? Sure, people can use them for their automatic levels and to make "Oh look Mario got bounced into a pit at the goal" but when it comes to actually using a spring for platforming it's an alien concept. Made a level mostly out of Note Blocks (Actual platforms, not that dumb single block stuff) and almost every single death is either on the first or second Note Block jump. It's not that hard, come on.

Dimentios' Random Feedback Time #2-B
(11-13)

Well, I finally beat it (twice) which you can witness on miiverse. It is indeed a very well made stage and no doubt you invested a tremendous amount of work into this. It is true, that the arrows are confusing and misplaced; there should only be two arrows in my opinion (after the door one pointing to the right, and one pointing to the left way).

Anyhow, some wigglers are really difficult to dodge and sometimes I carried a spring from the rails with me, but that didn't break the level, so yolo. I really liked the final sequence, where you warp-pipe yourself to the top of the level.

One thing, tho, one the left way, after reaching the top room with the first accessible P-Switch and work yourself to the bottom again, there seems to be a area, where you have to carry the P-Switch to the next room, or it's too less time to reach the next one. Maybe I am slow as fuck but I didn't have the problem in any other area.
All P-Switches are reachable without having to carry any with yourself, however it´s true that some require you to run and know the way beforehand. The last 2 PSwitches in both ways, those that allow you to finally unlock the elevator, are very demanding but I think it´s alright as they´re the last ones and the player should know the grip by then. Anyway, there´s no problem in taking the P-Switch with you, I know it can be done in almost all and I left that possibility so as not to frustrate the player when they´re that far into level.

Finally, this is an very interesting level and concept. I will recommend it further and you should heavily advertise it. However, I think the level is soo complex that finding it randomly on the 100er-Challenge or whatever, nobody will get the idea. It just became clear for me after reading the background information about that level, if I found it randomly, I doubt I could understand it.
Thanks for the kind words! Yeah, I think the concept is too complex to be understood without any additional explanation...Also, it will truly shine only when playing it twice, which is something impossible to achieve in 100 Mario mode and really difficult without letting the player know about the concept beforehand. I always tend to overcomplicate things, gues that´s the main lesson I have to learn about this course.

Wow, thanks a lot! I may quote the Fight Club sentence in an advertising poster :D

And some feedback of my own for RaganarokX´s latest creation (1B6D-0000-00A3-FD76):
I'm glad you enjoyed it. The scripted events that take place in the level were very frustrating to get working consistently, but I'm pleased that I got those things to work 100% of the time.

First of all, thanks a lot for sharing all the science behind your level. Second, I instantly downloaded this level after playing it to see how everything worked and was really surprised about the simplicity of most of the mechanics and how you got them to work perfectly, they are really a piece of art. You must have spent a lot of time polishing everything to work as you intended, awesome job.
Last, on the level itself: it really left me speechless. Cutscenes, creative bossfights (specially liked how the floor moved in parts in one of them) and things happenning that I didn´t think were possible in SMM. Someone said before that you seem to be using a better copy of SMM and I think that expresses exactly what I felt while playing the level: "That´s not possible!", "how did he do that?"...just awesome. Gameplay is great, I couldn´t stop playing until I had beaten the level and had discovered every secret. It´s true that the boss fight with the up & down moving floor was a bit chaotic, specially when Bowser Jr. starts throwing shells, but I loved the first part of that fight. Awesome use of checkpoints (I tried myself in some previous levels of mine but people didn´t seem to get the idea..btw I also used the Bonus music for the checkpoint room ;)).

Guys, try this stage, it really takes SMM to another level.

LOL yeah. It sort of took me forever to make but it was worth it. I like the result. Would have been cool to have more pipe transfers permitted by the game though. I did hit the maximum allowed!

Code: A3FF-0000-OOAE-FF33

WamZoeM.jpg

Enjoy!

Also, reposting the best cape level yet (Until proven otherwise! :p), it requires all the cape mechanics of SMW:

This level is very cool, I already knew about the idea of using letters for the planetoids but had imagined a different thing...this is much better! It´s really good because sometimes you can´t see the whole letter you have to jump to, but you know the shape it has so you can still make the jump. Intense and fair platforming..but maybe a bit too hard. I died 3 times in a row when jumping from Y to Z so right now I hate you so much XD. I think this level needs a Fire Flower or some 2 blocks-wide platforms, because having to constantly make running jumps to width-1 platforms is too demanding and easy to screw up in the most dumb ways...that can frustrate players a lot. Listen to more people before changing anything though, as difficulty is very subjective and this is just my opinion. Anyway, you really should change the last jump, it´s the most difficult of them all by far (or maybe it´s that I´m taking in the completely wrong way, but I´ve tried 3 different things and all have failed).

Another great thing of using letters is that the player knows at any time how far the goal is. It also helps is progression, as he can challenge himself: "I died last time at M, let´s see if I can reach N this time!". I was thinking this to myself as I played lol.

One question, I think you didn´t use curved tracks not even once, why is that? I think it would benefit the looks of some letters without altering gameplay.

Conclusion: Very original idea that meshes perfectly with gameplay and very challenging but fair level. Challenging yourself to beat your own record is really fun!

I haven't uploaded a level in a couple weeks, but this one was worth the wait. It has both an escort mission and an escape sequence.

The game seems to be getting better from what I've played the last few days. 100 Mario is actually pretty enjoyable now and the levels here are getting more impressive as time goes on. Hopefully the trend only continues.

Boo's Music Box!
8oVEuXX.jpg
K6EFVKA.jpg

Mario finds himself lost in a creepy mansion somewhere within the forests of Mushroom Kingdom. Upon exiting a ludicrous elevator, he hears the steady beat of music somewhere from within the mansion. A little further ahead, above the attic of the mansion, a curious little box with a strange door stood before Mario.

He enters, and what follows is beyond his imagination. Who knew ghosts had rhythm, what's more, why is this box so big?!

Thank you! Would you mind elaborating on what part felt like gating to you?

Thanks! ;)

Thank you! That's what i enjoy doing, very very complex and secret filled stages. That said I enjoy more simple levels tremendously, just not making them :p

Is funny you dislike arrows. I actually like them (clearly), especially to indicate a safer route if players are at a crossroad, or to tick them off some altetnative secret route. I understand that with your type of level making, which are densly designed focused, it might be a no no though.

Also, mayyybe you could have the crates(which are a fucking brilliant idea btw) so that on the first screen instead of going straight up they turn to the left and go into a wall the player wouldnt be allowed to enter and then continue going up, that way the player would fall down right at the level start arrow and figure it out.

Just got around to seeing this. Glad you liked my 2 levels, helped me realise some mistakes I made in the design, especially in the Forgotten Fortress.
I was actually really impressed that you could dodge all the fireballs on the track at the end without getting hit once. The spawning issue happened where 2 fireballs were basically stacked, and I don't think anyone has been able to get past it without taking damage (not even me), so well done!

And thanks for the feedback from everyone else that played my Yoshi level. As I said I was aiming for it to be a traditional style SMW level, so seeing ye mention that in the feedback is awesome!

i will be streaming mario maker in about 10 minutes at http://www.twitch.tv/naar82

the purpose of the stream is mainly to go over the puzzles stages i made and go over my decisions and see where people have been stuck at. I also told some people here who were stuck that i would show them a full playthrough to see how the level should be played.

i have a puzzle level that is ready right now but dont want to upload until i go over my own levels at the very least

Boo's Music Box!

Played it but couldn't finish it.

I liked the aesthetic and the design of the sections leading up to the music box quite a lot. I loved the little elevator ride with the 2 drybones.
The Music Box itself was a good idea, but I found it to be pretty awkward to get through to be honest, especially the room with all the bouncing sideways-springs.

I still starred the though, because for the most part I did enjoy it!
