Watching THIS video and I like the the hustle and bustle of the city in certain areas. Also, nice little detail when he climbs aboard the small boat and puts the guy in the water accidentally. The zipline also looks pretty cool and allowed them to really push the scale of the buildings/streets without making traversal any more tedious.

Still think not having exploration music is a mistake and I have no idea why they keep leaving it out. The combat animations also generally look lower quality than previous games.

EDIT: Seems like they pushed the "1v1 while everyone else stands around" combat to new heights. Are there no 2 or 3 person attacks like in Batman? Looks really awkward.

When Jacob jumped into the Thames, it looked like there's a slight 'pause' when he was about to hit the water :S

Structurally, 1868's London and 1789's Paris are 2 very different towns to modelize : Paris is a much smaller town in geographic size, with mainly small streets and very close buildings. London is much larger in size, but with large streets too. It's certainly less machine resource needed to keep a strong graphic fidelity.

Regarding the downgrade, it's most likely because they went back to a dynamic day-night cycle rather than 4 pre-baked static times of day as in Unity.
yep honestly i would rather have day-night cycle than those overbaked time of days in Unity (i know it was stunning but sometimes the lighting was too much)

Any Xbox One Footage?

I won't be dipping in this time, at least not at launch. I got a good deal on Unity at launch last year for around £25. Didn't end up playing it until way into the new year due to the very poor technical issues.

In the end, I got my £25 worth, and it was a good game. But it could be had for half that when I was playing through it and the launch mess was appalling really

Good lord, I just encountered a bug 5 minutes in. The FPS suddenly dropped to like 2-3, with strange audio sounds/glitches in the background. Had to quit to the menu and restart.

A rough start Ubisoft!

Other impressions:

- The framerate seems good otherwise though.

- I like that they skipped right to the 19th century after only about 5 minutes. I'm personally not a big fan of the present stuff.

- The controls seem surprisingly smooth. The main character actually does most of the things I want him to, in regards to the parkour. An improvement compared to Unity.

- Movement is a tad slow though.

How is the overall performance? And what system you playing on?

It definitely has and it needs a big break. That said, even after feeling burned out and not ready for a new one, watching all of the gameplay footage reminded me that I nearly always have fun playing these games. I heard the great music, saw some neat new gadgets at play in a pretty old London setting and it just made me want the game. What can I say?

Yeah I was watching CC last night and the ads almost got me back on the hype train.

Then I remembered how much I hated Unity.

I'm forcing myself to pass.

just some very quick bulletpoints because I am really pissed by all the seemingly unwarranted hate the game is getting:eek:n reddit and on gaf these days (and it's not even out yet)

- finished the full game last weekend (PS4)
- day one patch (1.11) is ~250mb (some people don't appear to have it installed)
- does not look as good as Unity but it's still pretty (it's by no means "ugly" as everyone on the internet currently makes it out to be)
- framerate appeared to be smooth with the occasional dips here and there, noticed no terrible slowdowns
- no major glitches for me during my initial playthrough (carriages physics are admittedly wonky, yes)
- parkour is smoother, still clunky, but way better than Unity
- I personally like the setting, Jacob is an idiot, Evie is just lovely, together they make a good team

any questions? just shoot

My copy shipped from best buy, arriving friday. I'll be playing this weekend, although Destiny hard mode unlocking will probably steal some time.

Really disappointed to hear the negative early impressions but I think he doesn't have the day 1 patch yet, I hope its not that bad :(

Is there any modern stuff in Syndicate? Good, or stupidly obtuse and pointless like in Unity? How long did the main storyline take to finish? Is there a ton of side stuff (ala the detective stuff or glyph stuff in Unity)?

I saw in a trailer that Karl Marx gives you a mission and tells you to do it "for the working class." I wonder if you assassinate an Industrialist or something ?

Thanks in advance for taking the time to give impressions.

Just a quick question from me: is there ambient music while free-roaming (as in, not doing a mission or side activity)? I yearn for the feeling the Ezio trilogy provided, where I could just walk around and be immersed by the locale. Ambient music was crucial.

I don't really care for spoilers, Hows the story? I hated Unity's story even though I completed it.

Is Syndicates any better?

I want to know about the modern stuff. Is it pointless as in Unity?

You're still playing as the faceless-voiceless person from Unity but now you get cutscenes from time to time where you get to see Shaun and Rebecca do Assassin stuff in the present day. (It's neat)

I really liked what they did on the audio side, everything feels homogeneous - you'll hear ambient music every now and then but I am not sure you'll have it outside of missions - have to pay attention to that some more, sorry, but I am tempted to say there was ambient music throughout the whole game

sorry, I cannot get into too much detail about this
minor spoilery plot spoilers in spoiler tags
typical Assassin's Creed storyline - you meet many important people from the time period - important historical figures will be killed/saved/rescued/abducted - Jacob and Evie have different goals in London
I want to know about the modern stuff. Is it pointless as in Unity?
I never liked the modern stuff, to be honest. You are forced to watch some of it at the beginning and, for me at least, it kind of clicked. Rebecca and Shaun are kinda neat. I guess you have to like the idea of the "modern day plot" in order to appreciate it. At least they are trying to tie up some lose ends (and, in doing that, of course create some more)

There's random background music in this clip from free roam:

but it's not all the time.

I'm confused. Is this the OT? Anyway, I was thinking about going to Best Buy and getting a copy on my home from work. Saw a gameplay trailer with Evie and she looks fun to play as.

What are the resolutions per console? If both are equal then it'll come down to performance I guess for my purchase. Cha' mon digital foundry where's my analysis!

The PS4 version has some bonus missions too. No idea what they consist of.

Can you freely switch between both characters (at least outside very specific story missions which would require one of them)?

I have a love/hate relationship with the series and especially Unity, but man. Exploring Victorian London sounds wonderful.
I mostly play these games for they're settings and I find this to be the most interesting one to date.
Are there still loads of Codex entries? I love that stuff.

I do have a couple of questions;
Does sneaking around feel less janky compared to Unity?
Is there still a cover mechanic?
Are whistling and dragging around bodies back?

And most importantly: is there a haystack placed at the bottom of the Elizabeth Tower?

I laughed but that sounds good to me.

Is the map as unnessesarily cluttered like Unity? That was one of my biggest turn offs of the game and I say that as someone who typically completes the hell out of an AC game.

We're all as confused about this being the OT as much as we're bewildered that it's coming out on Friday. It's super fitting as the OT

Did Ubi give a reason as to why its coming out on Friday?

Target has a deal involving buying it with Dr. Pepper.

- yes, LOADS of codex entries (and they're funny, too, if you're into Rebeccas/Shauns humour)
- sneaking is still "meh" but some (Evie's) missions enforce it nicely - AI is still shit
- yes to the cover thingie but I have rarely used it
- whistling is back, dragging is back (but still useless)
- haystack - maybe :)

Is the map as unnessesarily cluttered like Unity? [...]
- yes and no - it is still cluttered but not as much as Unity

Man, all this negativity surrounding AC makes me kind of not want to enter topics about the games at all. At least my friends enjoy the games, so I can talk to them without being bummed out by everyone talking about just how much the games suck.

I've played every (mainline) AC game and I enjoyed every single one of them.
And I'm sure I will enjoy Syndicate. Hell, I'm more excited for the game than last year because there is no multiplayer or mobile app. Just single player content. Also, I'm excited for the Jack the Ripper campaign.

Don't really care about performance issues. The issues Unity had everyone rages about didn't negatively influence my time with the game, so I'm sure it won't bother me in Syndicate, considering it most likely has improved performance.

The fact that you've enjoyed every single mainline Assassin's Creed shows that you are not the average consumer.

Of course you will love this game. You love any game with the title.
