Assassin's Creed: Syndicate leaks early, PS4 impressions not... great.

I feel like the gaming media will rip the game to shreds if it is as bad as unity or close to it just to be in "good graces".

Nonetheless I look forward to the review thread.

Isn't this basically contrary to what other people have already said about the PS4 version? Early impressions, videos, even review tidbits have basically been positive.

The hate this franchise gets is unreal. I don't even like most of the entries, but once Unity was fixed (I agree, that should've never been an issue to begin with), it was pretty good. One of the better ones.

That said, Black Flag, Unity, and Syndicate all seem like they would've been thematically excellent period games if they didn't have to lug the AC label around with them.

If it's getting positive impressions good, I'd much rather praise than piss all over it. I still think, from a long term perspective, a two or three year break would do the series a lot of good especially for the Dev teams

So if this really does end up being really bad, I don't expect Assassins Creed to remain a major franchise if there's backlash for whatever their 2016 title is as well. 3-4 games of backlash and declining sales will do the series in. I wonder what Ubisoft's contingency is since they have so many studios working on a single franchise.

Positive impressions on Syndicate:
*crickets*

Negative impressions on Syndicate:
OH MY GOD. FUCKING UBISHIT DOES IT AGAIN. COMPLETE TRASH. I WAS RIGHT AND THIS POST CONFIRMS ALL MY BELIEFS THAT I PREVIOUSLY HELD ON SYNDICATE DESPITE OTHER POSITIVE IMPRESSIONS.

Textbook case of confirmation bias.

LOL. Never change, GAF.

There's walkthroughs already in the works and trickling on YouTube. If you really want to see the game in action the footage is out there to help make up your own mind.
This guy is complaining, but what I'm curious about is whether his claims match the footage others are putting up?

Sevadus has been playing the game for the past few days on Twitch

Please, read other impressions before you base it all on this one guy who was playing the incomplete release version.

Please, everyone, stop going crazy about this. There are AC-haters in the "Assassins Creed Syndicate" thread who are being pleasantly surprised by Syndicate. I'm sceptical, too, but this anti-hype train needs to slow down a little bit.

True, and I should reserve judgement until I've played the game for myself. I was just commenting on the fact that I remember people trying to shut down criticism of Unity by stating that its sequel would see the same leap in quality as AC1 > AC2.

I'm not seeing it from the videos I have watched and history tells me not to expect it from Ubisoft, but I shall wait and see I guess.

or if any reviews are actually positive they'll just get thrown out or accused of being "bought and paid for" because there's no way an AC game can actually be enjoyable or good anymore...no way at all

"some random guy I've never heard of before and will never care about again says the game is bad therefore the game must be bad because he says the game is bad"

I completely agree with you. Annualization has been a massive misstep here. The burnout is very real, but it seems extreme.

If this is all accurate, I feel terrible for those that have pre-ordered this game. That being sad, hopefully this will spur Ubisoft to just put a bullet into this IP's head, it "jumped the shark" a long time ago anyway.

Why would you? If you pre-ordered after Unity then you deserve a broken game.

So now a random Redditor's impressions warrant its own thread when there are already multiple people on GAF who own the game that are already offering impressions in another thread?

I was just about to write the same thing.

The game doesn't look as good as unity, but runs better. This is what I read here.

The contrast between the attention this opinion gets and any positive impressions in the other thread is basically the definition of confirmation bias

they have two teams working on AC now, right? Would've been cool if they did like one new IP/game of similar caliber (Watch Dogs/BG&E) one year with AC the next. Gives them a lot longer to make AC games and to make them special/ not broken. I imagine if they put a marketing budget the size of AC games that they'd do well while giving Ubi good PR.
You could probably make two big-ish mid tier games with the resources needed to annualized Assassins retread

some of these impressions sound borderline hyperbolic. when he had posted that he had not installed any of the day 1 patches.

i'll wait for gaffer impressions and legit reviews as other people who have review copies have stated that performance is stable.

best folks to ask are the ones in the OT when it goes up and people have it......you usually can get a lot of answers in there instead of the shit posts everywhere that purely downplay everything just because its another assassins creed game.

Mess at "Evie was probably added to appeal to women"

AC already appeals to women in a way many other franchises don't. I know quite a few women who don't play games much except AC, or would list AC as their favourite series (pre-Unity).

This quote bothers me.

"Graphics are a serious let down. Granted this is still one of the better looking PS4 games, but when compared to Unity, it feels like such a copout."

If it's one of the better looking PS4 games, it should not be a letdown.

Not too surprising to be honest. Man, I remember buying the original Assassin's Creed, say what you want about it, but it was a flawed, yet interesting title. Following up with Assassin's Creed 2 and Brotherhood just made me think this was a really good series. Then Revelations happened, then Assassin's Creed 3 turned me off from the series enough that I barely looked at Black Flag, and didn't buy it on launch. After trying it out for myself and seeing it almost reach the heights of AC2, I regained some hope for the franchise.

Right until I bought Unity on launch and saw just how badly Ubisoft really has fucked up this franchise. At this point, the series needs to go on hiatus for a few years, or be put down. Franchise fatigue has already slipped in, and honestly the game just doesn't really look good. I literally have no hype whatsoever for this game, and it really isn't that hard to get me excited about an upcoming game.

If the game turns out good I'll buy it, a good game is a good game but I hope Ubisoft considers a break sometime, it could be a great move longer term

Where are all these glowing impressions you speak of?

I literally say where right there in the post you quoted.

And they're not "glowing", no need to put words in my mouth or take a snarky tone. People are just saying it seems like a solid game, more fun than Unity and nowhere near as broken.

Who knows what Ubisoft Montreal are doing

After all they put out Watch dogs, Black Flag, Far cry 4 and Unity in 3 years

The problem with the annualization isn't (or shouldn't be) rushed development times, since they have so many studios/employees.

It's that by the time a game like Unity comes along, Syndicate is too far into development to really react and fix the complains from the previous one, so you end up having to wait 2-3 installments to really see feedback addressed.

I played this game at a preview event in London just before E3. I was pretty positive about it, even though it was still unoptimised.

Didn't seem graphically any worse than unity and the gameplay seemed much smoother than normal AC.

I would be surprised if it got that much worse between June and October

Goes against early NeoGaf impressions. No one is saying Syndicate is a goty candidate, but I'm betting mid 7 to mid-8 reviews, which would tell me its an above average game. Sounds right from everything I've seen and heard.

Game is being streamed on Twitch right now, so don't take random dude #243's word for it, go watch some gameplay and judge it for yourself.

MUnited83

For you.
Several impressions on GAF, videos of lengthy gameplay sections, etc - obviously worthless, I dont believe them, they must be paid off by UBI!

One guy on Reddit saying it sucks - HOLY SHIT , game is the worst confirmed, 20 pages threads!!!!

The circlejerk is pretty amusing i have to say.

I wanted to dominate the living room. Then I took an ESRAM in the knee.
I was really surprised by how bad and ''old'' it looked when compared with last year's AC: Unity.

Twist: the guy works for VG247 and is actually talking about AC3.

People on GAF have finished the game, and posted positive impressions, but fuck that noise, right?

We believe a random redditor over multiple GAF posters.

If they toned down the graphics from Unity to get it to run better that sounds like a great decision.

They also have a full day/night cycle in this game as opposed to Unity, from what I've read. That would surely affect what can be accomplished graphically, right?

Those damning impressions are *exactly* what I expected based on last years debacle and the mediocre at best hype for Syndicate.

Hopefully this does poorly enough that Ubi takes a year or two off and give the franchise a chance to recover. I'm still so pissed I paid full price for Unity last year, even after the patches made it almost playable everything about the game itself was so tired and disappointing (other than the pretty great graphics and environments).
