PS4WiiU GAP

732.379

Closing so fast that it is possible to be below 500k before year ends.

Eh, I'm highly doubful given that holiday boosts are usually more skewed towards Nintendo.

Nice hold for Splatoon, and I'm glad Wii U is up YoY.

I'm fascinated that it looks like Vita will sell better this year than last. It's only 200k behind from last year, it could sell as well or better thanks to the games coming out soon

What games are gonna make it sell 200k more than it did in the same period last year? Genuinely curious.

Of course PS4 is bound to pass WiiU (eventually), but I remember several GAFers saying last year that by this september PS4 would be "way ahead" of WiiU.

I guess they were expecting 30K every week of 2015.

While I don't see Vita gaining enough to sell more than last year in total it could have better last quarter than last year. Solely because Minecraft seems to keep the baseline higher. Vita crashed and burned pretty badly last year during last quarter as it didn't have big releases or any titles with legs. Now it has at least one title constantly selling (and probably seeing good boost during christmas).

01./00. [3DS] 7th Dragon III Code: VFD <RPG> (Sega) {2015.10.15} (¥6.469) - 72.477 / NEW
Was hoping for a bit more. Hope it has some legs on it

05./10. [WIU] Splatoon <ACT> (Nintendo) {2015.05.28} (¥6.156) - 14.680 / 724.319 (+11%)
The squid are not stopping any time soon. Same can be said for Minecraft and Yo-Kai Watch Busters too

Mario Maker and Splatoon keeping the Wii-U over 10K
PS4 with a pretty decent hold too.

EDIT: Forgot Chibi-Robo like most people did
15./09. [3DS] Chibi-Robo! Zip Lash # <ACT> (Nintendo) {2015.10.08} (¥5.076) - 7.339 / 21.436 (-48%)
With poor first week sales and still having such a drop. He's pretty much done.

I think it's far from guaranteed. It has a long, long way to go before it reaches that point. That's a pretty high bar for a game on a console which will sell as poorly as the wii U's eventual LTD.

1.5 million is just too low. I really can't see less. It's just a question of math:
Splatoon at > 1 million is already confirmed by end of year.

It's over 850,000 retail+digital, and we have 10 weeks to go. 15k avg, but in December we are looking for >50k, MINIMUM 30k ( and is seriusly too low if we see Mario Kart sales).

If we are REALLY pessimists, Splatoon will be at 1.1 million by end of year. No way for be under this.

After that, do you really think it won't sell another 400k in 2016+2017 ?

1.5 million is absolutely the minimum of what Splatoon will sell... we are looking for >2 million

PS4 seems to be heading back to where it was before the price cut. The price cut may have been pointless....

Wii U saved for a while longer, but it cannot escape the inevitable plunge into the abyss of under 10K. Nintendo needs more new IPs like Splatoon, there is some hope for them in the Console front, they just need to try better next time.

More kids became Squids too! But how much longer will it remain above 10K! Find out next time on Splatoon: Nintendo's efforts to half-save Wii U.

Chibi-Robo's drop isn't too bad, but it's still a bomb.

7th Dragon isn't too bad, hope it doesn't have an enormous drop next week.

Blanc confirmed to not be as popular as Noire... :(

The hard part (or rather, the impossible part) with new IP is to know when the ceiling has been reached when it comes to interest to the game.

You know I thought the same thing about this post here.

There's no hidden meaning. Maybe you just though too much about it :p
Actually I'm bad at explaining. :S

It's simply what is stated, Ethomaz said that the gap is getting smaller and I remembered that several members of sales gaf predicted last year a much better baseline for PS4, and I guess that nobody expected splatoon to raise the WiiU baseline a little. Under the original predictions PS4's LTD should be already over WiiU's LTD.

What I was trying to say is simply that original expectations were way off.

Now, regarding this, I don't know.

Quick math: 232,000 over 11 weeks == PS4 needs to sell on average 21K more units than wiiu. It's a reachable number, but christmas is traditionally the big sales season for Nintendo.

The problem for Nintendo is that this year they don't have a big christmas game (I guess Splatoon and mario maker are the big games, but I mean a new "main attraction")

[...] MH PSP sales [...]

considering Minecraft is priced 2,500yen, yes, you are right considering among games charting up to 30 weeks the only exception is MH3P which was full price

Well to be fair I wasn't thinking about any title specifically but more about budget releases in general which tends to have an insane ratio of fw/ltd sales rather frequently (for pretty obvious reasons).

September data is out for top grossing apps in Japan. Thanks to 1st Course for noticing we could filter by country a few days ago.

crazy how big the idolmaster game has gotten, especially its basically like their debut

and the fate game is still up there, bunch of crazy folks

Wait until it reaches 1,5m first and then we'll see how higher it can go. It won't sell forever.

With current market trends it's far from reachable.

Well, i said 1.5 million is the minimum, not 2 million. ^^
2 million is just my personally prediction. :p

Anyway, we at least agree to say 1.5 million is a given?

I haven't been following Nintendo's plan for Splatoon, but was/is there any additional content planned for the current game? new maps or modes?

Nintendo would be smart to put everything they are currently producing for that game in the NX sequel.

I believe there are 4 more maps to be realeased along with additional weapons and gear.
There are no new modes confirmed at this time.

Any guesses as to what the PS4 weekly sales floor is going to bottom out at?

Right back where it started. It already had a soft-price cut months ago and was riding on that for a long time, and the current slide isn't exactly groundbreaking.

The consoles have picked up quite well in Japan. Far from the doom and gloom of a year or two ago and consoles are dead over there reports.

If it even had a chance before it definitely doesn't after Kancolle's delay. On the bright side 2016 is looking pretty good.

yes, but what keeps Minecraft selling is also the price, people is involved to buy the system with the game, just add 2,000yen and you have the game all your friend at school are playing on
different situation if it was price like a normal release, let's say 5,000yen

regarding Vita YTD, with almost 60 games planned to be released until the end of the year (probably more than any other system), I would be surprised if Q4 2015 will be lower than Q4 2014 : last year it managed 212k in the last 10 weeks and half of those sales were made in December (4 weeks) and in October, 3 weeks, it's already 10k more than last year

Gotcha. I'll be keeping that in mind over the next few weeks.

I just want to see how long it can maintain 20K+ without major releases. Hopefully it will not stray to far from that baseline until games like CoD and Battlefront hit.

Right. But right now, the trajectory is pretty much pointing right back to where it started from because we're only on week three of the cut (which is still when you have an upward shift from the norm) and are already at only 7k above the old baseline. That's bad.

Another 2-3k drop should be expected next week, and by the fifth week we are strongly looking at being right back to 18-20k, which is back to where the Bloodborne "soft-drop" was hovering, though sometimes dipping down to 14-15k. The release schedule just offers nothing to keep momentum of the price cut going in any meaningful way and, as can be seen from these charts, the software isn't exactly flourishing either.

If anything, we may just see it stabilize at the high point of the previous baseline.

Japan is getting a Splatoon bundle on November 12th. 34,000 Yen and is pre-installed onto the system I believe? I remember Geg asking if Japan ever got a Splatoon bundle, then saw this on Twitter from the official Splatoon and Nintendo account.

Is this replacing Mario Maker bundle? or will they be co-existing?

EDIT: Already read it well, and it's a limited one, as the Fortissimo Edition.

Well there it is. I'd say this would give a huge boost to Wii U, but this new price rising strategy might not work out too well for sales. Though I don't think Nintendo wants to sell Wii Us more than necessary at this point, so this should do for their purposes.

Out of curiosity how much did the Wii Party/Mario Kart 8 bundles cost?
