New Horizon Zero Dawn footage.

I feel like I'm seeing a different game here. Don't get me wrong, it looks good, but people are acting like this is the best thing ever. I just don't see it. Graphically it does nothing for me too. Bad pop-in, bad framerate and some wonky animations.

Yeah, I'm interested, but I don't understand how hype levels are through the roof for this. Like, I honestly can't wait for them to try and explain why there are mech dinosaurs.

IIRC the story takes place thousands (yes thousands) of years after some sort of apocalypse, the civilisation is still trying to rebuilt itself and maybe (that's my guess here) robots were the origin of the apocalypse and after that they kind of "evolved".

I miss the fog and rich vegetation from the E3 demo. It does look good though, but it looked more alive in the E3 trailer.

lol, why do they need to? this obsession with developers trying to ground everything and make the fantastical "believable" is the reason everything is so samey. can't a video game just be a video game anymore?

Completely agree. I love how different and distinct this is. I don't need everything explained to just enjoy a fun make-believe fantasy videogame world.

When did I say that they needed to? I'm just saying that there's a good chance that they're going to try to explain it and it's just going to be extremely silly.

-Towns/villages, yes, dungeons we haven't heard about yet. Exploring ruins of "ancient" civilizations are supposedly a big thing in this game
-It has a massive open world but I'm not sure if they have confirmed whether it's like Witcher 3's & is divided into a few bigger areas or if it's all seamless.

They have TALKED about some of the stuff he asked about, even if it's all largely unshown so far.

It's confirmed to be seemless and not divided up.

“Yes, it will be seamless open world” Herman Hulst, Creative Director, when talking about his studio’s next big Sci-Fi hunting game, Horizon Zero Dawn. During my interview with him at GAMES15 we discussed the freedom players will have when exploring this strange new sci-fi world.

One of my main concerns was the limitations that players might face. Guerrilla Games have been mostly known for their Killzone series which was as linear as it gets in terms of single-player campaign. Herman put those worries aside and ensured that players will be able explore their world freely and not divided similar to games like Dragon Quest Inquisition.

Okay, that's it. I'm done. I'm on a media black-out. The reveal at E3 blew me away and this footage looks alike, so that's that. I hope it runs at a stable and locked 30fps with little to no visual mishaps, and I think I've found my reason to buy a PS4 (alongside Bloodborne, which I'm going to be LTTP for).

Just saw the video and of course it looks awesome!

I just hope they give us more tactical choices. More ways of taking down the thunder jaw.

The video seems to indicate there's one correct way of doing it. And thinking about it, I probably would have never figured that out if I was playing the game for the first time without previous exposure.

I like when there are multiple ways of achieving a goal. And when they are all just as efficient. One of the main reasons I'm loving metal gear.

I just noticed that the gameplay/controls/camera sorta look like MGS5.

You can see some pretty good pop in in the newest video. When Aloy zooms in/out while aiming you see trees pretty obviously appear/disappear.

Agreed. I mean, it does look good. But, I'm keeping my $60 for now.

Please explain to me why the E3 demo ran so much can better in the same area not a few months ago, I will be glad to listen to a logical explanation.

The E3 demo didn't contain a big herd running and exploding by the traps, other than that the framerate is the same, pop-in is the same as well, it's the same demo they showed at E3 that was behind close doors, I'm sure that the updated build they currently have is even at a better shape, game looks amazing either way.

Pretty much, seems that the explosives cause problems. The big dinosaur battle gameplay looks the same as what I remember from E3.

The framerate dips during the herd explosions is not worth worrying right now as I expect them to iron out the kinks from now until launch; Guerilla are usually technically sound.

Framerate looks atrocious, jesus christ. How can they show this with that garbage rate? Are some people really that lenient? I hope it's Youtube or something but when the herd runs and explode the traps, shit's at like 20fps, and the whole thing looks to be running at like 25fps average. Ugh.

Graphics look rough, like the elements don't mesh with each other, and the "RPG" elements look as RPG as Arkham or RDR. Calling 78-82 metacritic.
Yeah it's revolting. Sub-30 FPS on early footage, RPG elements don't seem super-obvious and it looks just like an action game with some numbers. Clearly this can't possibly be a 90+ game with actual proper RPG mecha--

Almost like...an unfinished game

Strange, right?

But seriously, nobody is saying you have to feel a certain way. There are people who are hyped, so leave them be

Cute comparison, except GG aren't one of the best developers in the industry with a proven record. Ooops.

Aren't they known to be at least technically savvy (unlike From)? Plus they hired people who worked at Obsidian and CDPR?

Look if the game ends up sucking, then that's too bad, but it's just really lame to shit on early footage for technical issues and declare the game will be mediocre as a result. Like, come on.

Edit: plus the Demon's Souls comparison others have made below, good point.

Demon's Soul got panned from many quarters pre-release. This is looking more promising than that did when it was revealed. This is new territory for Guerrila, but everything shown so far has been pretty promising...

... Wut.

They got a great track record. Killzone 2 had a 91 on Metacritic (1 whole point behind Bloodborne), and Killzone 3 got an 84, which was also a very solid game. Shadow Fall was a bit of a misstep ("only" 73), but it was also a launch title.

I mean, if you're going to talk about how Bloodborne's devs FromSoftware have a "proven record", you should look up the reception of their other games - like King's Field: The Ancient City, Metal Wolf Chaos, and Ninja Blade.

Saying a game is going to be mediocre because a demo of a game that's at least a year away from releasing has a low framerate is pretty dumb. And whining that the game isn't enough of an "RPG" when we've seen so little of it is also pretty dumb. Especially with the studio getting talent from Obsidian and CD Projekt RED to work on the game.

There should be more tampons in gaming
People would somehow obstinately try and paint this bleak picture concerning Horizon. Although the game is likely a year away from release people will still try and act as if the game is releasing tomorrow. Frame-rate dips shouldn't even be a concern at this stage of development. The game looks wonderful and expansive with a lot of creative ideas. I think a lot of people will be looking a little foolish when the game rolls around.

Who cares what category someone thinks a game is in.

The game as it was presented is being exceptionally well received among enthusiasts and enthusiast press so that part they got right.

Now they need to make the game great for release and then it can be judged whether or not it lives up to the quality that is being imagined based on the premise.

This wankery about what category a game is supposed to be classified as is 5 years too late and if you've only just woken up to the cross-pollination and weakened dividers between genres then you haven't been paying attention.

Some people in this thread are just pathetic. If the game is not your cup of tea, you can just leave. All you are doing right now is ruining others' excitement by starting pointless arguments. I mean pop in, and frame rate drops....really? I didn't realize this game is being released tomorrow.

Pretty much.

I mean, for a game a year away that hasn't even gone through the polishing stage yet, it still looks like it runs better than some games that HAVE been released (Assassin's Creed Unity, I'm looking at you...).

I think it's fair to dismiss concerns about the graphics at this stage. It's still really early.

Hopefully, there's room in this thread for some discussion, though.

Because I will say my biggest concern is how the RPG elements are implemented. Game looks like plenty of fun, but if it's a game that rewards or demands a significant amount of grinding, that will really kill it for me.

I didn't particularly find this video to be a great showcase for the game, either. I'm not sure if that's a Mark Norris thing, or who conceptualized it, but the amount of time spent talking about the HUD and all... ugh.

Still looking forward to learning more and seeing deeper impressions, though.

There is melee combat in this game. You do know that right?

I don't. Need to see some sword combat then. And these shooting elements need to be optional.

yes.
shown swinging the weapon twice now. one in the tgs vid and once in pgw.

Will watch it again, but be nice to see a full fight with just the sword. And I hope they keep the shooting elements optional. Or at least reduce them significantly. For now, I've seen that you have to aim at enemy weak points and shoot, then you also have to aim those ropes as traps, etc. Too much aiming and shooting in gameplay.

agreed, while i loved mgs and witcher a bit more while i played them....bb ended up leaving a far better impression than the two by the time it ended.
only one of the three was consistently good throughout.

lmao he wants to attack mecha dinosaurs with swords

It's fine if the game is more shooting oriented. I just won't play it. Like I said in my original comment "looks like a shooter, will pass." Unless they show sword combat to be adequate.

did you miss the part where it tells that this game isnt made by a japanese dev?
this isnt an over the top hack n slash game
how the hell is the woman supposed to take down an armored trex with a sword?lol.
its a game about hunting.in a believeable fantasy setting.
who in their right mind hunts dinos with a sword roflol

hunting, stealth ,laying down traps, crafting , trading ect is what the game is about . not slaughtering dinos as the legendary japanese warrior who knows no physics

Please stop showing the game.

What? You want them to rush it out Sega Saturn style without anyone knowing shit? They
haven't shown anything really.. especially not for an open world rpg.

and no one is forcing you to watch, if you want secrets avoid the game until release lol.
