Indivisible: Valkyrie Profile/Metroid, Indiegogo, PC/Mac/Linux/PS4/XB1 -- funded!

Don't give in to Morrigan's hate.

They're not going to change the design because of one person's complaints - the 'little changes' are probably more to do with the process of internal reconceptualisation which would happen even if the game wasn't going for such transparency. Bringing it up now might just have been an attempt to placate them.

I'm not trying to disrespect the artstyle really. I just find that particular character to be completely blase, personally. I'm sure that there are people that love it, like Morrigan, but for me it's yawnsville. Brown much?

But I get it. Some people need or appreciate practicality with their character, clothing, or weapon designs to ground them. I'm not one of those people.

Personally, I just want them to look cool, which is highly subjective, of course. I like every character in Indivisible so far, but that Jotun pic also looks great to me.

Some times practical fits the overall art style, some times it asks for more ridiculous stuff. I'm fine with both.

Cool is definitely subjective, and that's fine. I'm not suggesting that context isn't important because practicality has its place. I just certainly never considered Indivisible to need to cater to such things.

Well, at least the thread is pretty active again, though I didn't think this would be what pushed it forward. I'm fine with the design, personally. I love the standard barbarian trope/design, male and female, so I have no qualms with it. But hey, even if it is altered, there's a ton of other incarnations for me to get excited about, so it's a pretty minor deal in the grand scheme of things.

Saw someone post on Twitter that they had their "dream team."

I replied, noting that we haven't yet revealed even half the playable Incarnations, so how can he know if it's his dream team or not?

Some people are easily contented.

"But we haven't even shown you the rob-"
"Nah I'm good."
"Or the special, totally not-canon guest cameo from our other--"
"I SAID GOOD DAY SIR."

Haha yeah I think the 'mom of three' part is the more unique bit. x)
That's got to lead to some awkward moments down the line.
"Oh sorry kids, I kinda ate your mom's soul, so she'll only be able to appear when I'm around. Hope your waifish amazonian daddy can see you the rest of the way to adulthood."

Yeah, it certainly raises a lot of questions. When/If the game comes out it will be interesting to see exactly how "absorbing" works. Like, are you basically dead after being absorbed? Do they do it willingly? Is it vaguely like Majora's Mask where the people are already dying when you come across them so they don't have any problem continuing on in Incarnation form?

This thing needs to get funded.

SMH to what?
They have an opinion, you have an opinion.

The diversity of the cast is what people with different opinions of designs is going to attract.
If you feel the way Phoebe's clothes are designed brakes a multiple cast of different designs for you, thats a pity, but for me that diversity on designs its the games forte, maybe you dont like x character but you love y.
Thats how real life works, people are attracted by different kind of people, their body types, or how they dress.

So this was in the most recent update with Pheobe:

"Monday, October 26 from 4-7 PM (Pacific)
Game stream with Jon, Earl, and MikeZ!
Be sure to tune in to this one for some exciting CONTEST ANNOUNCEMENTS!!!"

Did that happen yesterday? Did something get announced that I missed?

You misunderstand, she said "smh" because she was disappointed that a character design she liked others found boring. It wasn't related to Indivisible & its characters directly. You're a bit off the mark with this comment.

Big thing confirmed for a week from today.

Can we have it today? :p
plz? Today seems kind of slow

Oh I know. I just think the less we have to rely on the final push, the better. I just wish I could be less antsy. What we already have here has me so hype (especially the characters). I just want the full thing to be a done deal already :p
They're going to need something to raise spirits and cash again after the weekend slowdowns. We just have to be patient. The final rush is literally the last five days or so of the campaign. That leaves thirteen days they need to keep energized.

Did someone say contests? http://labzerogames.com/indiv-igg-contests/

4 contests total:
Fanart
Cosplay
Clearest Speedrun (prototype finished with all secrets)
Zen Speedrun. (prototype finished with no enemies killed)

It's kinda neat how the contest prizes only go towards increasing pledges to the game, and entering requires that you post your entry publicly with a link to the contest. Clever ways to promote IGG growth!

I'm betting the big news is 505 saw 'Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back'. They are now paying Lab Zero to go door to door to everyone who says "1.5 million is insane!" so they can shake them until their opinion changes.

Kaldi began as a coffee bean farmer and goatherd, but has always harbored a passion for throwing knives. He prides himself on his custom knife designs - ideal for throwing and for harvesting crops in the field - and has made a modest business of selling them to civilians and soldiers alike.

Being so relaxed and friendly in demeanor, it's at times hard to imagine Kaldi cutting down foes with deadly accuracy. But when the Iron Kingdom invaded his homeland, killing his friends and pillaging the crops and animals of his livelihood, Kaldi took up the arms he crafted to fight back.

After helping to drive the enemy forces away, he wants to ensure that his country won't be threatened again, and is eager share with the rest of the world his fine artisan blades and a good cup of coffee.

The knives he's using look based on South African mambele I think.

I must say I find it frankly disturbing that there are now clearly more non-caucasian characters revealed for this game than caucasian. How am I, an extremely white Irish guy, supposed to relate to this game now?
That's not even starting with how there's almost the same number of men as women. Half of those women don't even have their chest hanging out to at least give me something to oggle.

Please fix this in the full game.

Newest Incarnation looks cool. There aren't many games I can say I legit learn something new in the context of the world itself when a reveal is made.

Should this get its own thread?

I still just can't see this game making it, unfortunately. It really sucks because these guys deserve the support since they have proven themselves in the past

I'm starting to think about getting in contact with them to refund my pledge. I wanted a Lab Zero game, not a politically-correct circus of forced diversity. At the very least, they could include palette options to make the characters' skintones look more normal.

Not quite my favourite design, but he still looks good. Again, love the diversity of colour in the game. His knives look sweet, too. Although a friend pointed out to me that his upper lip kind of looked like a mustache and I've had to struggle to unsee that.

Do you know if they have plans to continue with the project (maybe scaled down in scope) if it fails? I really enjoyed that demo/concept.

Huh, going with the functional ones? I gotta see this in action.

Someone's channeling Kaneko's power.

I have to say this game's increasingly diverse roster is making me feel uncomfortable as a Cis male.

Because I can't hold all these amazing incarnations

Kaldi is a cool looking dude and I really really dig his wardrobe. The shades of black, blue and white go really nicely together. You can see that this is a guy who already had life figured out before he got Kirby'd by Ajna. I literally laughed out loud when someone said he'd heal everyone by serving them a hot cup of coffee lol. On another note... the Iron Kingdom sounds like it is full of assholes.

We need more $30 and $60 contributors. Something like 10k for the former and 4k for the latter would move us much closer to a million dollars.

I have to say I'm legit surprised that more people aren't biting on the physical release.

I know we're not Bloodstained or Shenmue, but those games had a pretty even split between digital and physical copies. And it's not even close for us.

It makes me a little angry that Lab Zero's attempts at transparency are being mistrusted while people will just throw money at shady people. But that's society I guess.

You need to get the console market more interested if you want to sell physical copies. The games you cite there are two of the very few crowdfunded games that have managed to do so.

Yeah, it's a shame, and it doesn't bode well for future projects becoming more open.

I felt like this project was out of my price range, but my wife demanded that we back it just to throw some money at http://kinucakes.tumblr.com/ for being fucking awesome.

There are a lot of crowdfunded games looking to capture or blend the style of older games, but very few have art assets of this quality.

We have to wait till the first of the month to do it due to finances, but we're happy to support high caliber work.

Well having played Skullgirls for a while gave me supreme confidence in the game design skill and execution at Lab Zero, so backing this was no problem.

Great design, though I'm disappointed he isn't Arab, considering their big role in the popularization of coffee :(

Like you said, you're not Bloodstained or Shenmue. Those two games, especially Shenmue, have a lot of history and prestige so people are more willing to go physical. Some even feel obligated to do so.

Part of the problem seems to be that people have this perception that indivisible is a short $15 title when it's so much more.

Introducing Kaldi of Ethiopia, courtesy of Wiki.

Wikipedia said:
Kaldi, noticing that when his flock nibbled on the bright red berries of a certain bush they became more energetic (jumping goats), chewed on the fruit himself. His exhilaration prompted him to bring the berries to an Islamic monk in a nearby monastery, but the monk disapproved of their use and threw them into a fire, from which an enticing aroma billowed. The roasted beans were quickly raked from the embers, ground up, and dissolved in hot water, yielding the world's first cup of coffee.

A bunch of the incarnations are based on existing myths like Thorani and the Anansi one I wanna see more of so bad.

People can correct me if I'm wrong and I don't follow kickstarter too closely so I may very well be, but I think if this got funded it would be by far the largest crowdfund that was trying to do something original. It's like Valkrie Profile, and kinda like Metriod, but I'd say Indivisible is actually more it's own thing and is the most original game I've seen in years, and not just on kickstarter. If this fails it proves that crowdfunding doesn't actually work for large-scale original ideas, which was kind of always the dream of what I wanted kickstarter to be when I first heard about it like 4 years ago. I guess kickstarter is only for small-time indies and big brand revivals. This is super depressing to me.

What I can't figure out is how Indivisible has half the number of backers that Skullgirls did, which makes no sense to me. LZ went above and beyond with Skullgirls and I'm surprised they didn't all come back right away. And that's not counting people like me who didn't pay attention to SG until after the indiegogo (and I've bought it 3 times now
*cough* where's my vita copy *cough*
). This combined with people accusing LZ of not being brutally up front an honest, when they have a clear track record for all the see. This is kind of vexing.

If this gets funded I'll be so happy though. I'll continue to yell at my friends.
